You can also think, two identical wires if in series has resultant R, then each of the two components must have resistance R/2. If the similar setup was divided such that they were parallel, then each component will have resistance=2R because if you connect them again, they will give back R

No, sir is right in this question when the wire is cut into two half parts then resistance of both wire will also be half........ Then their equivalent resistance will be r/4

@@samairamalik3404 In the question a wire is cut from the middle such that the cross sectional area will remain same. That is why when length changes to L/2, this resistance changes to R/2. You can also think, two identical wires if in series has resultant R, then each of the two components must have resistance R/2.
If the similar setup was divided such that they were parallel, then each component will have resistance=2R because if you connect them again, they will give back R
