Great video. People often mistake VShred for Thomas Delaurer. Just for the record for those that may not know Thomas Delaurer and Vshred are not the one in the same despite the erie identical twin like resemblance lol
I remember Thomas making a video about that, which I thought was hilarious; while I could maybe see someone mistaking them for brothers, Thomas looks both older and SIGNIFICANTLY larger to me than V-Shred. Also, at the risk of sounding mean, V-shred just sounds, well, very dumb. I think Thomas gets ahead of himself with some of the conclusions he draws from various papers, but I don't think he's actually stupid.
About BMR, I have a very specific question linked to a recent article: this article came out in the journal Obesity a few months ago, "New insights in the mechanisms of weight-loss maintenance: Summary from a Pennington symposium". They report pretty convincing evidence that there are "metabolic adaptations" to obesity: at equal muscle mass, the previously obese individuals who lost 10% of body weight consume up to 300Kcal/day less. How does this "metabolic adaptation" connect to your point that obese and non-obese individual have equivalent BMR?
They have lost 10% of their body weight. The BMR per pound muscle/fat/organs(brain,liver,etc) is the same, but they simply weigh less. So they need less calories to sustain their body. In the study was also stated:"where an average of 9 kg were lost over 2 years and resulted in a metabolic adaptation of approximately 100 kcal/day". If you solve this for I.)a+b=9kg and II.)8kcal/kg*a+24kcal/kg*b=100kcal, these persons lost a=7,25kg of fat and B=1,75kg of muscle. Naturally this ignores changes in NEAT and eating habits(TEF), but explains perfectly in my non scientist brain the difference in BMR.
I bet when Layne wakes up from a well rested sleep instead of yawning and stretching his arms out he just yells “human randomized control trials!” 😂 love ya dude!
how can you reference Herman Pontzer for metabolic rate by age, and then 2 minutes later say that you can modify your daily energy expenditure by exercise?… His book “Burn” essentially is entirely about how DEE is conserved- i.e. if you exercise your BMR goes down to compensate thereby resulting in a DEE that is pretty close to a paired sedentary control. anyway… still a good video!
When I spend an hour doing incline walking on the treadmill, I might not be burning all that many calories. BUT if I didn't do my daily steady-state cardio, I'd be watching my Netflix on the sofa with a bag of potato chips on my lap. Low-Intensity Steady-State, to me, is like Creatine, Whey Protein, Zero Calorie soft drinks, and my daily multivitamin pill -- none of them are making a huge impact but they are all playing a role in helping me attain my goals.
I'm curious about the ectomorph, endomorph, mesomorph thing being debunked. I know personally guys who are string beans and have been their whole life. I know guys that have always been built like an athlete since they were a kid. I work in a ninja warrior gym where I see kids doing the exact same things and some just naturally have more muscle mass than others. Isn't that basically the whole idea behind the "morphs?" I'm not saying everyone can't get muscler or skinny or fat if they try, just some have a natural genetic tendency toward one or the other

This made me 😂. Dead.
Dr. Drew has disappointed me too.
Great Video! Thank you 🔥👏💪🫶
Vshred is so annoying I got a youtube membership just to get rid of those ads specifically.
how can you reference Herman Pontzer for metabolic rate by age, and then 2 minutes later say that you can modify your daily energy expenditure by exercise?… His book “Burn” essentially is entirely about how DEE is conserved- i.e. if you exercise your BMR goes down to compensate thereby resulting in a DEE that is pretty close to a paired sedentary control. anyway… still a good video!
Layne is awesome ❤
This is the last time I spend any time listening to Dr. Dru, on any subject.
Me over here with UA-cam Premium for years and years. I have never even heard of V Shred until now 😂
Same. Pretty handy
Good video man!
I watched this video and literally the next ad that came up was the exact Dr Drew video! Aaaaaaand.... SKIP!
“That’s not how this shit works!” Hahaha go get ‘em!
He is stating verbatim the Vshred script. I’ve heard exactly that a million times by many many people especially the main dude.
Isn't that basically the whole idea behind the "morphs?" I'm not saying everyone can't get muscler or skinny or fat if they try, just some have a natural genetic tendency toward one or the other
Man I like Dr. Norton 😢❤
“considering the level of bullshit” 😂😂😂🙌
Don’t forget about the body type quiz
The picture of that dude with the hand on his shoulder is funny
I appreciate The Princess Bride reference 😅
Wow I haven’t seen vshred in a while. I guess he’s back. And if dude is paying 100k in UA-cam ads, I suspect he also paid dr dru (?) to be on his podcast. That is the way of podcasts. No wellness podcast is immune to becoming a shill to dingalings if the pay is right.
The Dr. Drew V-Shred commercial literally came up immediately after this video. (sigh) Kind of sad to see a doctor of any field fall for such an obvious scam.
Vshred is a beast he’s mma 🎉 best left kick I ever seen fastest knock out in kumate
V shred is just low hanging fruit...
But I'm glad he's taking the time to debunk it. For those of us with limited diet/fitness education it's tempting to try. Thank you Layne!
Imma jump in this pool.
Idk if everyone feels the same, but the audio of these always seems to be super low in comparison to everyone else's videos. Am I alone in this one?
Do something about your phone/earbuds or so.
I do not feel the same. Never thought that. Get a better device.
Nope. He doesn’t have acoustic absorption set up and there’s a lot of flutter echo, etc. Apart from that, there sometimes seems to be a bit of distortion-they might need a limiter, etc.
@@Millo1868 I guess I just have superior hearing to you. I don't have any issue understanding what he says. Genetic deficiencies.
@@SoCalRob213 My device is good. No one's saying we can't understand Layne. We are merely criticizing the sound quality in comparison to what you would expect of a UA-cam video.
For instance, Layne sounds WAY better in podcasts with other people, doesn't even compare. So Millo is probably right in his assertion.
Your lack of feedback and excessive passive-aggressiveness is unnecessary.
Dr Layne is the Gordon Ramsey of the Diet world .👍 F*^k me V shred is a thing ?
Geez I thought we’re not gonna get HRCTs in this one, almost got a panic attack!
