Incredible! In Switzerland, we probably make the finest watches. But you, in Britain, you make the finest soldiers for sure. They march with their pace stick as it rains cats and dogs and they do that with the greatest precision as nothing would be. A very nice piece of british pride, thank you "The King's Guards Channel" to share this moment very professionnally shot under pouring rain.
Love Swiss watches! My first watch ever was an Alsta. I still remember it 45 years later.
@@pamelablume1637 Dear Pamela, Alsta Watches aren't swiss. They do have swiss movements or calibers if you prefer. This is the reason why you can read "Swiss Made" at 6 o'clock on the dial. But their design and complete case assembly / strap aren't made in Switzerland. Anyway, they are also nice and neat watches. Thank you for your kind attention.
They are perfect in everything they do thank you great video 😊
Soldiers in uniform do not look right with beards, in my opinion.
neither does these Brown uniforms look good, they look ugly to be honest
Not a problem 😊
When I was in the army quite a few years ago... The only one allowed to have a beard was the Pioneer Sargent maybe it's changed ???
Maybarnard1088 yes I agree, it hides their handsome faces.
I am crazy about "Duck Dynasty" beards, but a clean shaven face goes well with the perfectly suited and booted soldier image. However, skin conditions sometimes makes it necessary for a soldier to have a beard.
Love watching Pace Sticking. Judging this must be extremely hard. Thx for posting👍🇨🇦
Brilliant. Thank you for showing us.
That's a Pace Stick they are holding. This works out the correct spacing for parade ground
I think the one with uneven hem line has my problem. One leg slightly longer than the other.
For the civies watching . The " pace stick" is to unify the British armies pace . Which is 116 paces a min with a length of 76cm . It was originally used by the royal artillery to set correct distances between guns .
Have to admit, even though served, never knew that. Thank you
Thanks for the explanation! We don't use such things here in the States.
Hilarious thank you
I never knew about this .
This is why I love being British 😂 xx
Very strange for sure...and sad its raining hard.
Every military is different. I was in the US Marines and our boot camp drill instructors were hell on wheels over proper drill, but they didn't use pace sticks (or any other kind of actual stick anymore). They just knew the distances needed. In fact, the US Marines are the only branch in the US military that still trains recruits to a high drill standard. Sure, the other branches have ceremonial units that learn a high standard of drill. In fact the units in Washington DC (including the Marines) all march to a common standard and use a standard manual of arms generally only seen in those units. I do remember our feather merchants (short guys) sometimes having difficulties with the 30-inch pace for quick time, but as the DIs said, that was their problem. Deal with it and do it right (or else). It didn't help them that Marine units doing drill organize the troops by height, tallest in front, shortest in back (except for the squad leaders who were always the first rank regardless of height). Or as we would joke (after boot camp), "Fall in alphabetically by height!"
While the US military doesn't use pace sticks, I have no issues with the Brits (and others) using them. Tradition counts for something in my book.
Nobody does tradition like the British soldiers.
I totally agree. Men should be cleanshaven as often as possible. Beards hide expressions and openness and truth sometimes. They can be another MASK. So unnecessary.
The pace stick! What a tool that is for the drill sergeants of the army. I was only 5'6" tall when I joined the army and later, as a "Right hand man" on many parades I often found myself being "paced" by our RSM (over 6 feet tall) and him saying Step out!! Left Right Left Right 30" come on stretch those legs! All the while, his pace stick whipping round and snapping down as I took each pace. Even worse in Slow Time!
My knees have started to give way a bit now, I'm lucky. The drill you are seeing here is pretty exaggerated as they are in competition if you watch them on normal parade they are a little less so.
I remember "Step off with a full pace of 30" open your legs, you wont drop nothing".
Should have tried it wearing a skirt. Well maybe not, I'm sure the RSM would have had a fit, but for WRAC on parade with men, it wasn't easy!!!!
Fascinating in a weird but good way!
Do these two guys play " Pirates of the Caribbean?"
Its like a Ballet in lots of was gental and flowing yet so much training to get to the standerd
????🤔
That wooden compass malarkey measures the correct distance for marching and between rows of soldiers, etc. It’s a pacing stick although it’s not a stick`
What a malarkey but that's the life they choose.
@@janiceellis5461 yep, and proud of it xx
🤔
They are marking out with hi stick I remember this from my brother
Glad to see that the soldiers have fun and feel comfortable to play 9:09 - 9:54 😂😂
Just seen a couple of kukri's (? Spelling) being used. The Gurkas use them. My father had one from his time with them in Burma during WW11
They are just toy swords used for the skit for giving the team port
@@yesyesoyes72 Thanks for the clarification
@@barryandjackypowell8239 My pleasure, I can see why they would cause confusion
I'm pretty sure that they have been watching repeats of Monty Python's Flying Circus
The axel was on the Queens coffin ⚰ swarn elig..
What the heck did I miss?
I’m still trying to figure out what I am watching!
Me too 😂
The pace stick is used to give the correct pace length and pace while marching .
Presume practicing for an official event. People don't realise how much goes on behind the scenes xx
The Chips brigade. 😮
For a moment I was transported back to "Dad's Army" 😂🇳🇿 Thankyou ❤
I adore our men and women in uniform, but agree with mary, i prefer them clean shaven. Just my opinion. Much respect to all of them beards or not!😊
Can someone please elaborate on the significance of the pirates and the drink please?
Just soldiers having fun dressed up as pirate's
That rupert needs a haircut!!
Yep totally agree, lead by example? I don't think so. So many Ruperts are beyond comment !As they say “if you can't take a joke you shouldn't have signed up in the first place.
Indeed. In fact I thought I was looking at a lady rupert.
In the pouring down rain no less. 😂
Ministry of Silly Walks 😂❤
Hi I know this might be a silly question to ask but what are those sticks for?
Measuring … you turn them point on point to measure distances … paces, distance between rows, soldiers, etc
@@lindylou7853thank you 😊
I'M NOT SURE EITHER, BUT MAN IT'S RAINING AWFULLY HARD.ANY WAY WE LOOK AT THE VIDEO , THESE SOLDIERS ARE VERY HANDSOME. POSITIVELY.OH WOW THE SWORDS MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH HONOR! 🥰😅😂 ??🤣🙏🙏💘💘🇺🇸🇺🇸
The stamping of the leg must play havoc with there feet. I know my father who was in the army a long time he joined when he was 14 years old , they were called boy soldiers. He had terrible problems with his feet later on in life. I really enjoyed the video.
To be fair the older ammo boots weren't designed very well and had a tendancy to pinch and squash your feet(I did WW2 reenactment years back) the newer ones are a lot more ergonomic and forgiving -
Soldiers stamp
What's this.... The wannabe brigade🤔
Pioneer Sargent or religion allowed.
They've lost their collective minds?
New sergeants being inspected?
Sargent's training for there next rank company Sargent major (csm) with pace sticks . They use them for distance marking I think..
Literally stated in the video its a pace sticking competition
What would an Unfriendly Competition of Pace Sticks be like?
Ok. Who won?
How do they keep such straight faces?
🙄😳😳
Pay stick is the word you're saying sorry?
No ,it is pace stick.
@@Luciasantos-by9np ahah thanks. I couldn't make it out
Did they have dog poo on their shoe?
Strange! 🤔
boys playing games with daggers & bottles I see 😢🤔🤗
Inspection 0f new sergeants by their senior officers…
Nothing like the British army 😂
Its a Medieval practice as is all Royal practice...learn the Tarot for the meaning...I know what it's for so will many others..
8:56 🤣🤣🤣
They told us, when we were in Hong Kong in the 60s, that every time the kukri is drawn, it has to feel blood. The kukri has a thorn close to the hilt, where they used to scrape their thumbs to draw blood. I don't know if they still do it.👋🇨🇦
What is this??
hahahahahaha🤣🤣
And no one in uniform should wear a beard, a modest mustache is acceptable only.
Half leg represents the hanged man..in the pack..
