The Xcom remake in 2010 was the first game to make me appreciate turn based strategy games. I have yet to find a crpg that tops Xcom2 with mods. For whatever reason, the way combat is started and cover is used in Xcom 2 is by far my favorite systems in the genre and I am immediately having issues with this game in this regard. The fact you can't peak around corners and the way every new enemy is engaged is not to my liking and also feels very unintuitive. At any point in this game can you actually ambush an enemy or initiate combat in a way that your team has the opening shots? It doesn't seem to be the case to me. Consequently, I feel like every enemy I reveal is almost an ambush scenario for the enemey.
( more specifically, can you reveal enemies with certain gear or items further into the campsign?, I have figured out how to flashbang enemies a d knockdown walls to get the drop on enemies, but at no point havd I truly been able to go stealth and attack from the shadows).

I think a great example of updating an old crpg franchise is the new Jagged Alliance 3. My initial impressions of X2 is that they haven't updated the combat enough for modern times. My opinion has nothing to do with difficulty. I find it absurd that I can be positioned adjacent to a door, open it, and have to spend more points to stand directly in front of the door with zero cover to attack eneimes in a room in most instances. It seems to me the best strategy is blow open walls and doors so the enemy just rushes you and you pick them off?
