    George Carlin stands out as one of the most enlightened comedians ever. His fearless approach to tackling complex and controversial subjects, from politics and religion to language and society, made him a truly unique voice in comedy. Carlin had a remarkable ability to blend sharp wit with profound insights, challenging us to question the norms and think critically about the world around us. His timeless routines and thought-provoking observations continue to resonate with audiences, proving that comedy can be a powerful tool for enlightenment and social change. If you haven't explored his work deeply, you're missing out on some of the most incisive and intelligent humor ever crafted. My personal opinion is that all he says is true.

      On the other hand, his death has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is no afterlife. George Carlin was such a rational, informed individual. As much a social critic as a comedian. He's the type of "Left Libertarian" (lower green quadrant in the political compass lol) that we need more of. If you notice he routinely criticized both liberals and conservatives, religious zealots / bigots, and the prison and military industrial complexes; while defending the unhoused and impoverished. He hated corporations, corruption, and both major political parties. He even recognized "green washing" and criticized pseudo-environmentalism long before most others caught on. George was a real leftist, unlike so many today that think whininess and unreasonableness are what define leftism lol. This is how the corporate media and corporate politicians masquerading as public servants actively misrepresent "Average Joe" leftists like George, and myself, and so many others that just want the wealthy establishment to stop abusing and exploiting the public.

    • @DoberDudeProductions

Many Americans don't even know what a political axis is, let alone that systems of Wealth Distribution (Left-wing to Right-wing) and system of Rule (Horizontal to Hierarchical power) are interchangeable. And that this whole both-sides BS is part of how we're divided and oppressed. As if bigotry on it's own wasn't bad enough, witch is how "RW Libertarians" prove hypocritical caucusing with the post party-flip Confederate party. Bigotry = anti-Freedom.

      @markkuykendall5475 Рік тому +5

      ToscanaMan uses a term: "moral dumbfounding," and they're right to use it. For y'all who don't know, the term was coined by the prominent psychologist Jonathan Haidt for that f'd up thing that people do where they have a moral/aesthetic stance on an issue or a thing BUT they know that there's no rational reason for them to continue to maintain that stance. They've been educated and know that there's no rational or provable reason for them to feel/believe the way they do but they continue to do so anyway. The "moral dumbfounding" part is the part where they have to admit (if only silently in their own heads) that they "got nuthin'" but they then proceed to not budge from their position.

    George Carlin wasn't just a comedian or philosopher. He was almost a musician. The rhythm of his stage shows is damn near cinematic. • @KitsyX
      @KitsyX Рік тому +19

      While somewhat clever and poetic, a pretty flawed statement… The most obvious problem being: Who decides what right and wrong are? Unless there is empirical data on the subject or whatever, it’s somewhat subjective…
      And while religion is partly about doing what you are told, what they are usually saying to do is to follow their code of morality… Doing what is right, no matter what others might tell you to do… Of course, you may not agree with them as to what is right, but that doesn’t change their intent or mean either of you are right or wrong.

    • @Wolf-ln1ml

      Damn, that's a good line

    • @vetreas366
      @vetreas366 Рік тому +7

      Quote is flawed, morality is not absolute. There is "doing what you think is right," "doing what you are told directly is right," and "doing what is generally accepted at this point in time as right by your peers and society at large." They all function on 3 different moral codes that may align to some degree but what is moral today may not have been moral a hundred or a thousand years ago and vice-versa.
      Morality is subjective and ultimately something we construct as part of our social world. It's also rather arbitrary. Some people see no problem with eating meat, others call it immoral. Some of us consider killing and murder of our fellow man to be immoral, others see it as perfectly acceptable or as just another part of living. Depending on the circumstances of your birth and education, your personal moral compass can swing wildly across a spectrum of matters. Religion is part of what can influence the accepted social and moral norms but it's not the only thing. Religion usually says killing is wrong but the state has no problem with teaching and letting members of its army and police force kill others. Morality is a really ambiguous thing.
      There are no absolutes, aside from entropy maybe.

    • @ReiseLukas

When the egg is not fertilized, the uterus cleans itself out, hence a period. There are no "fertilized" eggs being sloughed off during a period. If there are, that's called an early miscarriage. How cool that you're getting into and understanding George Carlin. I first discovered him in the early 70s and bought every album of his when they came out. He was a brilliant observational comedian, who pulled no punches on anyone, even himself.
    I saw him live about 1980 and my biggest memory is how much I hurt from laughing so hard for so long.
    Not only was he as politically and socially real as this video shows, his love of wordplay was always brilliant. Definitely, a comedian who makes you think while you laugh.

    The video you watched here came a bit in the middle
    He had made even more points before this part: Like the fact that the "Pro-Life" people were for saving the unborn, but against anything to take care of any babies once they were born (Against post-natal care, neo-natal care, food stamps, Section 8 housing, job placement programs, school funding, breakfast and/or lunch, etc...)
    "If you're pre-Born, you're fine ... if you're pre-School, you're F-ed".
    And more ...

    I find as a Christian Transgender woman, that George Carlin is just as relevant as he has always been. He really makes a Lot of salient points that it may be a great idea for people that call themselves Christians to actually listen to. The way that the leaders in the Christian Church treat transgender people, even as Psychology says our experience is Valid,... is shameful.
    I struggled with my identity, and One day while in Prayer God just told me.." you are ok, I Love you, do what you need to be happy."
    Of course a Lot of Christians, and Trans people look at me with a side-eye. But I havee found a church that accepts me, and does not try to change me because someone thinks they understand what sex and gender are.
    Christians need to accept,.... sometimes our leaders get ahead of God on some issues. John 13:35. "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." Many have forgotten.

    "You are all diseased" George Carlin; after hearing this album in 1999 or 2000 maybe, they become words to live by. I went on & listened to everything he'd released after that. I even saw him live in the mid 2000s. Carlin was one of the best. About a decade later or so, I heard Bill Hicks for the 1st time. Hicks died in the 90's, but he's like the natural evolution of Carlin. Hicks' comedy from the late 80s/early 90s is just brilliant -- he knew he was dying & it was like he knew he was only meant to be here to say what he did & then leave. His last few specials still resonate with today; they are well put together & complete... & Then cancer snatched the life out him; pancreatic cancer if I recall correctly...

Lenny Bruce would basically go up there in the 50s and early 60s and said it was ok to be gay and that interracial marriage was ok, and then the police would arrest him for swearing, although that was an excuse to silence the content of his comedy.
