Glad you got to find it!
Curious as to the times you sometimes mention, in New Zealand are there golden periods or important caving groups?
Like are the 20s a big time for cave discovery, or are the 70s....
Do you think the technology helps caving more that groups?
Because you have also mentioned/used lightweight cordless drill like in corkscrew, and I also wonder what our current era is, are you the last group/the completers of what was started in a different era?
Is there any estimates of how many/what percentage of caves in NZ are fully mapped/discovered?
Anyways, always happy to get your videos in my notification, Thanks for the wonderful videos!
Don't feel like any of the above questions are required, but if any pique your interest I would be very curious as to some of the answers.

Hi Ben, interesting questions. I suppose there have been distinct periods in nz caving that have been driven by technology and society. In the early days like the late 1800s and early 1900 exploration was in its infancy. As land was cleared then caves became more obvious. Then I suppose during the 60s after everyone had recovered from the war, better transport was available then a new wave of exploration began. This spread to the south island mountains during the 70s and 80s. The 90s saw a huge jump in caving in waitomo driven by guiding work there at the time. During the last 20 years light weight gear and better equipment has seen a new era of pushing big long and deep caves on multi day trips throughout the year. What you ask is a big topic, I have written the briefest of summary. Could be a good video series one day:-) regards Kieran

I need to find a farmer to invite me to look at his cave,.. that looked like a lot of fun.
