    Did you know, I recently wrote the most comprehensive book ever written about keeping, feeding and breeding Cherry Shrimp. Check it out here Neocaridina-shrimp-handbook.com

    My biggest issue was adding the new water
    When I started dripping it back in things improved dramatically

    Please make a video about mixing colours of shrimp. At the moment, I have goldenbacks, snowballs and cherries in the same tank. I've always kept them apart, but I enjoy them more seeing them together.
    My experience, from observing them now, is that the babies do not go wild coloured in one or two generations. Or I've been lucky...
    I enjoy them regardless, and I love seeing the different colours and what the babies turn out to be.

    Thank you for such a nice short informative video, about maintaining shrimp aquarium. I got one 1 meter long 30 cm width. After letting one year ago 10 shrimp, now I got like 200 of them and now afraid to rescape it without killing little ones, and by the way these who are newborn they swim perfectly, and not staying in one place...

      Hey, thanks for watching. Unfortunately, rescaping often comes at the cost of a few newborn shrimp. Getting them all out can be tricky. 😢

    So I’ve got some shrimp @richard James I’ve just brought your book hard copy because I have a tds of 500 and ph of 8.8 and I’m using RO to bring it down my main aim is to keep them alive but to breed them the babies I do have I am surprised about the few babies I do have I’m hoping your book can help me fix and maximise my shrimp numbers

    Really wish I could get some hygro but that particular type has been banned where I'm at due to it being considered "invasive" despite the fact that it can't survive through a winter here in Washington state .In Florida it is invasive and has gone nuts in the south in general but Washington state,not so much at all that I'm aware of .
    What's odd is that Rotala indica can survive in a pond through the winter and come right back in the spring and it grows pretty quickly and yet its legal ,go figure 🤷‍♂️

    I experienced that java moss needs a little cold temps,
    As I live in India in winter it grows beautifully but in summer it ceases growth and turns brown.

    I'm a newbie with a 10 gallon tank I just set up June 14th with a seeded sponge filter. The tank has cycled and I plan on getting red cherry shrimp, but I'm worried about keeping my water at a certain temperature. Keeping my AC on 75 makes me cold and I turn it off at night. I don't have the shrimp yet, but I've been experimenting with blowing a fan over the tank. Trying to keep the water at 75 is hard during the summer and lower temperatures are almost impossible. I don't know what to do except for buying an aquarium chiller

    • @FishKeepingAnswers
      @FishKeepingAnswers  2 місяці тому +4

      Hi. You will find the RCS will be fine even if the temp creeps above 75. They will be fine even at the low 80s. What they hate is the temperature swinging wildly during the day.
      Would love to hear how you get on 🤞🏻

    • @sll4891
      @sll4891 2 місяці тому +1

      @@FishKeepingAnswers alright, I'll try to keep it at a steady temp. I just didn't want the RCS to breed and die faster at a higher temperature

    I like your new setup and the tanks look awesome. I'm curious about the glass vase on the shelf behind your book. What have you got in there? As always, I love your videos and I appreciate the work you put in to make them :)

    Richard, I have been given a large bag of big coral stones which I have bleached, and have been soaking in fresh water in the garden for two weeks with frequent water changes. Are they ok to put in a shrimp aquascape? Will they make the gh/ph too high? I’d appreciate your advice. Our water in south wales is very soft. Thank you.

    Great vid for basic maintenance, thanks! I like to alternate cleaning the non-viewing walls, south wall first, 6 months later west glass gets cleaned, 6mo later east glass gets cleaned. Continue and repeat. I personally find the algae buildup to get too thick, esp towards the top of the tank where critters have a harder time hanging out. Possibly since not all of my lights are top down where the light enters from the top surface of water. So my question for you is: Do you think algae can build up to the point of limiting light for plants?

    • @FishKeepingAnswers
      @FishKeepingAnswers  2 місяці тому +2

      @@kjudestevens1519 hey, thanks for taking the time to share. Algae can affect plants when it covers the leaves, but apart from that I never find it to be an issue.

    I started with 10 shrimp, 5 blue and 5 orange, mixed living in a 6 gal bookshelf aquarium. I now have well over 70-100 shrimp, 3 generations, and the weird colors showing up in the off spring is awesome. I have a few that have black in them, brown in them, red in them, clear parts, turquoise, and my favorite, a snow white top with black underparts. I moved all the pure orange ones over to another 3 gal tank but they are breeding like mad there too, so I'll need to move some more. LoL.
    I just do evaporation top offs, no water changes, and I only have java moss and wood in there. They love it. Feeding time is crazy as they all come out of hiding, i only feed Shrimp Baby and shrimp mineral and ever so often a sprinkle of Bacter AE.
    I have to move to a new apt in a month, not sure how to move them, any tips?
