  • Here’s a look at how to change your pads and rotors on a dodge caravan. If you don’t know what you’re doing or you are unsure, get somebody that knows what they’re doing to help you. Use all safety equipment to protect yourself. Do not repair your brakes if you are not competent.

    0:59 your pins are seizing up because the rubber boot is missing , you can see one inch of the pins exposed to the elements ,humidity and dirt, get the pins dry so quick, I had the same issue I lube the pins without the rubber pin boots , after a month I realize that the boots were missing , I bought new ones relub the pins and hopefully it will be ok, I had to use a tow truck both times to prevent further damaged, just an observation, you are applying anti seize on the pins, is better silicone grease for brakes, anti seize gets dry, is not mean to be a lubricant, is anti corrosion. Thanks for your video it helped me a lot

    9:01 is the perfect reason to show why the caliper bolts and the pad slides must be lubricated...
    Nice work Dave !

    I actually just needed to replace the wheel stud on a 02 caravan but this helped me big time! Because i didn’t have a 13/16th socket😂

    I use fluidfilm with similar results between rotor and hub. Going to be doing a 2002 with seized calipers and down to bare metal pads with rusted on rotors. And I have to replace the bearings too which are rusted badly. Free vehicle that was heading to the jyd and donsting to a needy family. Just did most of the engine maintenance and fuel system. These vans are luxury but I think fairly easy to work on with some pet peeves. When neglected. I got my sledge/maul ready. Lol

      Fluidfilm is a great product.
      Sounds like a lot of work but I’m sure you will get it done

    Good tip there, to lube things before putting them back on. I may take my wheels off my car and put a bit of lube on them before it's too late and they rust on.

      @@ghettovanadventures Yeah, I did both front rotors and pads today...was quite easy after watching your video. The old rotors fell right off though...saved me a ton of time lol :o)

    Just a little suggestion. Don't put greasy fingers directly on the pads. If you do, follow up with a good application of brake clean spray.

    The camera was too far away several times. When you said. Now we need to get those out. What were you referring to when you said "those"?

    dude I have a 2005 grand caravan , I did exactly what you did, removed brake fluid cap first, took calipers off - compressed calipers put on new brakes, both sides- put brake fluid cap back on - started van - slowly pumped the brakes , now the van will not go forward nor back, breaks are locked - what did I do wrong - how do I fix it.

    • @3231Richard

      Should I bleed the caliper pressure ?

    • @ghettovanadventures
      @ghettovanadventures  4 місяці тому

      I have not heard of that before ever. The only thing I can think of is your maybe your callipers are seized.
      I would definitely start by checking everything to make sure there’s nothing binding

      @@ghettovanadventures Thank You for your reply I recently bought a 2005 grand caravan to replace my older 1996 SE caravan -the Grand has snow tires all around- I put the SE new tires on the Grand noticing that it needs a brake job, i drove it around for a while -without doing the pads , everything was find, When I replaced the front pads the calipers spread open further out. when I put the tires back on - the rims pressed against the calipers locking the front end. I replace the tires with the snow tires and everything is fine again. The snow tire rims are slightly deeper . Thank You again
