I love this scene. Compare it to the season 1 scene where Ephram learns that his mom was cheating on Andy and it really is amazing to see the growth of the two of them and their relationship
At the end of the day though it's very clear Ephram loves his father and vice versa. After watching the series through it's original run and now again recently on dvd i am amazed at how realistic the show is. Ephram and Andy say things that "real" people say. Take their arguement in one of the first few episodes for instance. Watch the series and give it a chance. You will be very happy you did.
I agree. I think thats why I love the show so much. I think I have rewatched it 6-7 time the last 15 years. It discusses life themes we all struggle with from time to time, and how life in general impacts us and the people around us. A great show!
@GooglFascists I understand what your saying and i think it's great that your relationship with your children is so full of love but the tv relationship between Ephram and Andy really isn't all that different at the end of the day. There's alot of guilt, blame and other issues because of how Andy worked so much. Infact he worked late the night his wife died. Andy was supposed to join her to go see Ephram play piano i think.
One difference. Any time one of my boys comes in from somewhere they always first thing give Pop a hug and kiss. They been doing it since they were toddlers and we see no reason to quit. I always noticed that between Ephram & Andy because Ephram looks so much like my oldest son did at that age. Something is missing when he doesn't get a bear hug from Dad.
I know a lot of good loving families with great fathers who don't do the bear hugs unless one of them has been away or it is some special occasion like a graduation or wedding. I am not dissng you, but you can't criticize others for not being overly affectionate. Besides you are forgetting the theme of this story. The father was a famous sought out neurosurgeon who worked 80-hour weeks and hardly saw his children until his wife died tragically in a car accident and suddenly, he became a single parent. The growth between the 2 characters over 4 seasons was tremendous. My only complaint was Ephraim seemed way too mature for his age. Then again at the series beginning Gregory Smith was a 19-year-old playing a15 year old. Lol and Chris Pratt at 23 was playing a very silly immature 17-year-old. Lol I don't think they got either of their characters quite right for the ages they were supposed to be, but I still enjoyed the series and their characters.
