There’s a video of a gator who took a Cavalier a few years ago. Incredibly, his brave owner jumped in and pried his dog free from its jaws. I take my tri-color off leash in the Northern California mountains everyday and never had a problem, but I am always aware and prepared. I know you folks are, too. 💯%
I think most people were not just amazed by his bravery and dedication to save his Cavi "Gunnar" but also that throughout the whole battle, he never dropped his cigar. :D @@herkythecavalier
We lived in west FL for several years! Word of the wise, watch out for the fire ants! Our first baby was Oasis’ age when we discovered not all grassy areas in fl can be played on! Fire ants HURT! Stay safe! And congrats on your new home!!! It’s beautiful! ❤️
There are a lot of allergy problems in Florida for humans as well as dogs.Ameicans do have a lot of carpeting. The exception would be houses by the beach. In the summer, Florida is super humid, and many people travel away from the area to up north. My aunt and uncle had a house on a lake in Tampa. They loved it. Hope you enjoy your stay there. Oh, and watch out for snakes. My aunt found a bid one on her porch!
Our two Cavis, Snoopy and Bailey welcome you all to Florida. We live in DeBary, Florida. Yes, watch out for all the predators, but still a wonderful place to live. Never unleash, not just because of the predators but there are some who are not responsible and you can never know when an unleashed dog might attack.
I like carpeting in the bedroom, but prefer rugs in other areas. It's just so much cleaner. Hope you enjoy Florida!!! One day, we'd like to make a move that way as well. It's not going to happen in the near future, but one day maybe. Your pups look happy as can be!!!
Welcome to the Tampa Bay Area! We’ve lived here all of our lives. We have a few Cavalier groups that do get together events but due to the dog illness happening, a lot of families are much more guarded right now. As far as our wildlife, the hawks were only a problem when our Cavies were small pups. Our Blenheim’s tail was like a beacon to them and I would have one on our fence many times 😮 The gators tend to travel through big underground pipes in ponds. The sand hill cranes (the big birds in this video) move throughout our neighborhood looking for bugs in the grass and can definitely destroy a yard doing so but the other thing is they have been known to peck at car doors because they see their reflection. They are also a state protected bird so if they cross the street in front of cars…we have to let them pass safely. Snakes are another thing to be vigilant about. Water moccasins live near water and are venomous! We have other species so please do your research. Watch where you’re walking especially since our weather here really can’t make up its mind. Snakes like leave coverage during the summer months but love the warm sun in our “winter” days lol. I hope some of this info helps you and your family and we can’t wait to see more adventures of Herky & Milton 😊
I absolutely love living in Florida! We are building a house on the beach and the only place to walk my longhair mini dachshunds is on the beach. The sand does get a little annoying but I don’t think I’d want it any other way.
I love Huntington Beach. I’m sorry you left. We don’t have coyotes anymore. Personally I think there is a “squad” that is transporting them to the desert, since the incident on the beach when a little child was attacked”. They have all but disappeared from HB. The climate here can’t be replaced with the east coast climate. It’s dry but not extremely dry, I was born here so maybe I’m biased. Our Herky Blenheim Cavalier doesn’t have a mitral valve heart problem and that is a miracle since our last Cavalier died from heart disease. We are blessed. BTW I got our Herky’s name from your Utube show
We love Huntington Beach too! California was wonderful, but we lived over an hour away from HB so we didn’t go often. We wish we could live in the OC, California is the best! But for reasons mentioned in the video and the distance between California and Montreal, we had to make a decision for the family 🫶🏻
Yay!! 😃 So excited for your move! We were in the Tampa area last Thanksgiving visiting our family. We live in NC, and my preference is humidity 🥵over cold weather 🥶. I guess you’ll get use to see the 🐊 …some new homes come w carpet as is the cheaper option and you can request upgrades to hardwood or tiles. Lucy loved the carpet but we replaced it w hardwood flooring. Enjoy your new home! ❤
C’mon tell us the truth: you moved from CA to FL for monitory reasons😜 and I can’t blame you! I live one hour south of Tampa area (Sarasota - that’s where you should have moved to😉) and I am sure you will love it. By the way, the big black birds you see flying are not “vultures”. You only see, the real vultures when they are on the ground feasting on a “road kill” and they will not bother your dogs. On the other hand, watch out for gators😱. Most people, new to Florida, do not realize how dangerous they can be. Most of the times, when you see them, they are very calm, sunning themselves or moving slowly in a piece of water but, when they decide to attack, they are killers. So, never think you are too careful. Bien venue en Floride and I know you and your entire family will absolutely LOVE it here. 😍
Haha, monetary is one aspect. We did keep the house in California, we just have tenants there now. It is too beautiful of a house for us to sell. The biggest reason was the distance between California and Montreal. Since we travel often, this was necessary for our family and for our businesses.
I have an over weight cavie named Frankie. He’s 4 1/2 yrs old. He now eats salmon flavored dry dog food for sensitive skin and stomachs. The vet put him on 1/4 c twice a day. He gets apple slices or sweet potato slices etc for a snack. It is critical that he loses weight bc the fat is collapsing his trachea. I saw a video where Herky lost weight. How long did it take?
You can watch her weightloss journey video, it’s here on UA-cam! Her weightloss was over a year I would say. But not with prescription food. I am not a vet but if you read the ingredients, they make absolutely no sense. We did it with a raw food diet and exercise. Good luck!
Welcome to Florida ! We're south of you with our Cavalier. Here's a remarkable save of a man's CKC puppy from an alligator who jetted 20 feet to grab his Cavalier. Quite the hero ! ua-cam.com/video/jR3GTFEyUVs/v-deo.htmlsi=fU-U8l75wZoT96pp

Welcome to Florida. I’m happy that everyone is adjusting to the changes. This winter has been incredibly gloomy for quite a long time. Usually the winter weather is delightful. It looks like you are well informed about our wildlife, but the Sandhill Cranes are especially loved by Floridians. They’re pretty harmless unless you’re in a golf cart with food. Then they might approach and try to steal a bite. Wait until you see babies in Spring. They are especially cute. Looking forward to seeing your new adventures.
Hi Mai , my friend told me if you put if you put 1tsp of butter milk powder in your dog's food, the tear stains disappear in 3 months! I tried it out on Gigi, and her tear stains are gone ! So I hope this helps for Milton! 😊❤️🐶🐾

Hi, how do you deal with the lawn pesticides, mosquitoes and ticks?
Thank you
We don’t do any preventatives for that. Lawn has no pesticides at our house
I'm wondering if there may be an allergen Milton is reacting to in the Florida air?
It’s possible! So many possibilities. We are new here so haven’t quite figured it out yet

Prefer that to 6ft of snow any day
