- So Tesla isn't doing a Plaid Model S or X in right hand drive! Well that is not ideal...

If it's true that the model 3 project Highland cars will have steer by wire then I could see this technology being applied to model S and X cars and hence it should be easier and cheaper to build right hand versions of these cars in the future.
100% steer by wire seems like the logical next step, they could even implement installation of the steering in the destination country therefore simplifying the supply chain dramatically
That would be nice and makes perfect sense
Your steering wheel looks a bit worn now.....
There was a time when I wanted an S but that time is gone. Not because the steering wheel is on the wrong side but because they screwed up their interior design big time. WTF were they thinking?
No tesla for me!
Good to see you out and about James.
Not sure what I'm missing here but Model S is already LHD only. You can't buy a new (to order or inventory) Model S in RHD in the UK. This is not limited to ludicrous.
It's the same for Model X non-ludicrous inventory, all LHD only.
This is why the Aussies are so upset. It's illegal to buy a new LHD car in Australia so Tesla now only offer 3/Y for sale there.
Yeah James is doing the "dad thing" and generalising all new model s and X's as "ludicrous" 🤣 despite being factually incorrect. I did like his little joke he added in though lol.
Your explanation is good in case others didn't know 😃👍👍
The S & the X are too big for UK roads - which is why I bought a Y - and even that is too big to go through my standard 7 foot wide UK garage door! The S & the X are also getting old and are a low volume niche product. I'm sure Elon only keeps them going is so that Tesla has a bigger lineup - when in fact the Model Y is the main money spinner as many are now holding off buying a 3 because the Highland model 3 is about to be launched.
Maybe that's what Giga UK would do! Right hand drive cars they car sell in UK and export to Australia, Japan, etc.
What do u think of the 0% finance deal on at min for the model 3 lfp version?
I think it will not matter what side the wheel is on soon. With full self driving the back seats are even an option then.
FSD is 10 years off minimum, not sure why they couldn’t implement right hand drive with steer by wire as they’re rumoured to be pioneering it
Loads of countries use RHD not just us.
@@robsmith1a not as many as you’d think; although it’s the safer side to drive
@@user-dp9pm5vv8j 64 countries including India and Japan
@@robsmith1a 163 LHD vs 76 RHD
Do you think Model S and X second hand cars may go up in price now ? Or at least in the near future
Here in Australia, they don’t allow new LHD cars. So end of the road for the S here. Great shame. Going to drive my 2016 S with free supercharging for life for ever!
Can you answer now that you saw the highland what are ur options now ur battery is done.
How much did u have to pay.
Would u still choose telsa over all others?
I would still choose Tesla over others, but I don't think I'd "baby" the battery. I'd just use it in whatever way was convenient. I missed out on a warrantee replacement by just 3 months!
Their charging infrastructure is still second to none and I have found the car to be generally reliable over a substantial number of miles and years (160k miles over 8 years). Most of running costs have been very low as well (one change of brake discs and pads in 170k miles now and that was for corrosion not wear).
Great vlog James. Just wondering why you don't go to an independant for tyres? I think they would be way cheaper than Tesla.
The new S and X have been discontinued in AUS and NZL. My neighbour's deposit was returned to him recently here in Auckland.
Would've thought that model s was almost wide enough to have 3 seats up front and put the steering wheel in the centre. No yoke.
Even though the Model S Plaid is LHD I still want one 🤤
Did you pay for a new battery in your model S? Please could you give us a run down of how much you think you’ve spent/saved on it? Also what’s the range of an old car like yours now?
He covered this question in a previous video if you want to check it out.
S & X are almost on big for the UK so why bother making them when the 3 and Y work so well for the UK.
Tesla have already stopped selling Models S and X in Australia. Model 3 and Y for us only. Keep in mind that excluding RHD from production will exclude 1/4 of the potential world market: UK Japan, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, NZ, etc.
But surely Europe drive on same side as us ?
Going to be hot next week.
James you know you need an intervention when younthink the whole country to drive on other side of road just to buy a certain tesla.
Not all countries drive on the left james and tesla cant sell enough of thise models to those that do drive on the left.
Truth is s and x arent as premium or as desireable as thry need to be at those prices.
You can have pretty much any car at those prices and just not an attractive option.
I dont think we should allowv left hand drive cars to be registered in Uk now we have left EU.
Safety on overtsking and its a wide car so in country lanes etc just think we should bsn them.
Tesla are already making million+ a year. Likely 1.8M+ this year.
I had a feeling they were heading into the 1M+ end of things, but I didn't realise they'd got there yet
And not 100k of those are the total number of Model S or X sold combined. So 95% is Model 3/Y now. Guessing the ROI on making RHD versions of S/X is not worth it.
is your steering wheel dirty or worn out?
168k miles of worn out and sun damage I'd guess
@@JamesCookeVlogs wow. Lots of miles
Hi James! I can’t believe that Tesla would throw in a can grabbing tool and then think that it’s just fine to sell all Model S and X cars in RHD market countries with LHD steering yokes!!! Elon will do everything that saves a penny. It’s Sandy Munro’s fault and their Lean Design philosophy. That’s how Ford put out a Pinto that some people would burn up and die in a rear end collision, but it was cheaper to pay out millions in wrongful death claims than to protect the fuel tank from the differential puncturing the fuel tank.
I'm sure Tesla will get around to making the S and X right hand drive eventually. It has always taken several years of left hand drive production before their vehicles are available in right hand drive. The S and X are low volume, but they are also high profit. They are also a big part of Tesla's performance image, and help with sales of the less expensive models because of all the free publicity they get.
It's neither here nor there for me, though. I'm not interested in Tesla's newer vehicles or the direction they're taking. I'll keep my 2017 Model S 100D with sunroof and free supercharging (and FSD, although I'm not holding my breath until that actually comes to Australia) until the wheels fall off of it.
Yeah, I'm in the till the wheels fall off camp too. That's when EVs start to make the most sense IMO
It was said on twitter months ago cough cough sorry x=y = z i think lol
What's MIT?

Don’t know about you James, but have you noticed with their increase in popularity their customer service has dropped off a cliff? Or is it just my experience
Its an excuse a third of the planet still drives on the original side of the road the left and as its all drive by wire ( no real connection between wheel or pedsls ) switching sides should be easy .
Thought you had a King in England? He says, make it left hand drive, and it will be left hand drive. Problem solved. Long live the King.
