As a former plane captin with VMA-AW-533 back in the late 70's and early 80's. 533 flew A6E-Tram w/o the turrent. I think you did a very good job of capturing the weather effects. While watching your weathering process, i was thinking about wash day. Cleaning up all that grease, oil and soot off the birds. Good job, thanks bringing back those memories.
Hey, 'Plane Capt'.... former OS1 now model builder as well..... question..... Does That effect of the weathered plane REALLY look that molted or is more pronounced or soften more so, on the REAL a-c?? To me It looks 'Spot On', I ALWAYS wanted to have that effect on my 80s F-14s and attack a-c, but Never knew the technique....until now!
@Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P That's kinda hard to answer. What he does with a scale model looks really good to me. But it was 40 some odd years ago for me to remember what the aircraft looked like. Did they always look like that, no. Maybe the day before wash day, every Friday if we weren't on a cruise, on a cruise, everyday was wash day. During peace time operations, unless on a exercise which simulates war time ops. There's also the perspective, we we're looking at a scale model, we're in person you don't see the whole aircraft, you're in person view in limited, whether from the ground or standing on a wing. But I think his painting-weathering process does capture real world what a modern aircraft can look like when in service. Does that make sense?
@Hey_MikeZeroEcho22P Something else. When I'm modeling I'm trying replicate a vehicle, aircraft or figure for a specific moment in time. Like a photograph does. I'm also doing it for me. Not anyone else. Anyway back to the bench. I'm working on 6 WWII 1/35 scale german motorcycles with figures, and I need to repaint the engines, because WWII motorcycle engine do not look like modern motorcycle engines, different material components and wartime use plus specific environment in this case north africa. Oh well, I'm having fun.

@ one small detail for your next super hornet. The nose numbers, flap numbers and numbers at the top of the vertical stabs should all be matching. I noticed you had “200” on the flaps of the 102 bird. Those should be 102 as well.
I love the effect provided by using the masking fluid. I am a Hornet fan as well, I recently completely Trumpeter's 1/32 EA-18G, I went with low viz scheme. It's hard to believe the Hornets have been around for over 40 years now. I sorely miss the Tomcat's they replaced, but the Hornets certainly have built their own legacy.
You’ve got my thoughts on this already Luke, glad to have recommended you to pick this kit up and giving it at try, I hear good things about Tamiya’s new leopard 2a7 if you’re looking into trying armour, can get nice and dirty with mud on those tracks too!
If I were to critique the builds I'd say you needed a 3rd F18 F/G in RAAF markings as it's the closest to us Kiwis having strike aircraft🤔🤣. Your weathering is sublime. A brilliant set of builds
That was a truly excellent build my friend, when you really look at the aircraft you can see why they named it Hornet, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Very nice build! No critique there. My brother flies the E. Got to see them land while standing at the edge of the runway in Lemoore. His first squadron was the Royal Maces. Amazing machines and pilots. But, its either a Super Hornet or Rhino. Hornet alone is reserved for the legacy version. Also i think you put GBU16s on the E not 12s.
You said to let you know if I think you should have done a high-vis scheme, so I can't lie: I was bit gutted when, presented with all those gorgeous vibrant schemes, you went for the one which was almost entirely just grey! 😅 But that's why you're the modeller, not me, and your end result is excellent as always; these are (not so) mini masterpieces
Dude, absolutely fantastic model kit build. I'm so glad I found your channel and yes I did subscribe so keep up the great work and I promise to keep coming back for more and sharing your talent with as many people as I possibly can because in my humble opinion you definitely deserve it.

I think these look terrific; I don't think they look over-weathered, rather that they look more convincing, with the benefit (from a modelling pov) that it adds interest and variation to an otherwise very dull (as intended, I guess) scheme. For what my opinion is worth, I think that's excellent work! 👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻

Nice build, liked he painting/weathering process. 34:09 , I wonder if model brand will ever sort out the issue of most F-18 main landing gear, that is flimsy and tend to bend the wheels outboard. Maybe provide a bras MLDG that is stiffer than plastic.

Very nice Rhinos, excellent work overall and I particularly enjoyed watching how you modulated the gray paint scheme. One question though, did the decal instructions have you put different side numbers on each jet? The three digit number on the nose will always match what is on the flaperon.

Good video! Thanks…80% MLT to 1500? Wow. I’ve ways used 50%. Is that a common mix? Most videos seem to suggest starting at 50/50. Pressure yeah. 20-22 PSI especially since I shoot a further distance away for the base coat.
Thank you sir! Seemingly it’s how I’ve got the best results, it might be more to do with the fact I spray it through a 0.2 needle so naturally everything gets a little bit more thinned out🤟🏻
Outstanding work as always. I always learn a new skill from your videos. Can you tell me what video editing programme you use for your video please? Many thanks
I would say you have done a fair job. In some respects, you have done really well. With others, not so much. A couple of big things for me...lower surface of the trailing edge flaps (yes, thats what they are called) needed the seams filled where the two parts were put together; exhaust colour and appearance is way off; weapons and some other bits look rushed and unfinished; and there is some some streaking/weathering from areas you wouldn't normally have leaking from. All I can say is take your time and that reference photos are your friend!!!

This is how youtube works now, showed me this video after 3 weeks but glad it did eventually. Great work!
I provided Furball with the references for the VFA-102 F via my buddy Taco who was in the squadron at the time. Excellent builds!

Thank you very much! I also love all of the USN🤟🏻🤟🏻
OUTSTANDING!!
I ALWAYS wanted that "molted" look on my a-c ..... THIS Post Really shows me how!!
Thank YOU 'Mach Models'!!!
Brilliant build video as usual. Got to say I think your videos are getting better, with good narration and content. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate the feedback, anything which you think could be improved?
@machmodels I dont actually, keep the format as it is on the basis that 'if it aint broken, dont fix it'. Highly recommended.
Loving you showing the paints used for each section. Helps with new builders like I reference the effect they'll have on a model.
Well done Sir !
Beautiful Work

As the wings are folded, and the WSO and Pillot are in, so I would have had the canopy up and the ladder, if it’s a good ladder, coz they’re not always perfect. This is due to the fact they probably had just started setting up the jet.
Amazing build, possibly your best yet in terms of how well modulated/weathered that grey finish is. I aspire to your level with the airbrush! Top tip (forgive that patronising phrase) on the internal screens - in real cockpits these have no shine, they are built to be as matte as possible so that they are still legible to aircrew when sunlight is hitting the cockpit. They're made of a sort of non-reflective material that compromises on absolute picture quality to achieve the best fidelity in all conditions. Shame really because it does look cool to add some shine into the interior!
Just a question not a request, will you ever build tanks or, ships?
I will indeed buddy! Hopefully in the next few months🤟🏻
@machmodelsWould love to see a Bismarck if you're going to do ships!
@machmodelshey you should really try tanks there is so much story telling and customisation such as weathering camouflage and intact marks let alone a diorama 1:33
Absolutely perfect weathering! Too bad you didn't add resin wheels, nozzle and PE mirrors because it would be absolute perfection :) I'm mirin' brah.
well done i am thinking of getting that kit for ages
You did an absolute masterpiece or should i say pieces? your paintjob was great, but the weathering was complete stunning. Well done mate, i will copy some techniques for my 1/32 F/A 18.

Amazing !!!
Amazing model, could you build a F111 aardvark if you have time😁👌🏼
Another great build. Maybe quieter background music next time though lol.
Beautiful builds, but why do the Modex numbers on the wings not match those on the nose and tail on both aircraft?
So between me and you… my dog actually ran off with half the decals so I had to “improvise”🤣🤣 My apologies🤟🏻🤣
@machmodels oh crap, that stinks! 😂 But any of us who have ever had a dog in their life will get it. Really gorgeous builds!

Lovely job as always Luke. I can't help but think the FA18 is the last of the sexy fighters. The F22 and F35 just don't do it for me
Cool! How did you get the decals to mold in so well?
I would guess applying them on a gloss surface, using a decent application of decal softener and sealing them in with gloss prior to a final finish.
Hi Henry! Main way to get them to conform is using a strong decal softener. Mr Mark Softner is the best🤟🏻🤟🏻
@ Hi! Thank you 🙏
Witam, model pierwsza klasa gratulacje, pozdrawiam.

Did you need glue to make it? Because you put it together like LEGO
