@@DOC6752This is a genuinely smart and genuinely good idea. In the current state it has flaws but it is a genuinely good idea one that many others aren't confident enough to try due to how hard it will be to balance.
@@darkalexander9158Naw this system is dumb, contest for POI’s you want, if you aren’t good enough then get better or land somewhere else. (Example Red Rams contesting for LRod, yeah granted they didn’t make finals but they won the contests against TSM)
Also takes away a randomness of plays for BR (Ex- NTH griefing Furia)
But again this is my take on what makes a good BR
If you really are "the best" then win from any poi. I get both sides of the argument tbh. And it will be interesting to see how it works. Only way to find out is to give it a go

I get what they are trying to accomplish, competitive integrity.... however i agree with gnaske, they should've just balanced the loot in poi's and let people land where they want
It’s a BR let them contest! Fair? The whole point of a BR is for their to be a lot of randomness which ends ‘unfairly’ for some and favourably for others. This will make it boring to watch. Early fights are the most exciting!
Well if you think about it, it isn't guaranteed that you'll play well if you get a good POI, there are so many factors outside of loot to win a game. The ring can pull far from your POI and force you to play edge even though you're a zone team.

I think the complaint is it adds even more RNG. Like zone pulls and loot are already random. Now add POI and a team could run into awful luck in a 6 game series. Still in favor of it but I feel like some modifications will be needed
Yah how about respawn actually fix their zone randomizer, it's ridiculous a whole tournament can happen with no zones near certain poi's.
@@IRaoulDukethat’s how randomness works. Maybe they could adjust it so it’s not completely random, in that it has a cap to how many consecutive similar zones can pop up
I am surprised people think the POI change in Comp is good for viewers. I think they are very mistaken, as an avid viewer the early contests are one of the best parts of Apex Esports. Apex is a very slow game to watch until the last 4-8 minutes of the match. Because in the first 10ish minutes, not a lot happens. Most of the time first 2 zones close and there are still 18 teams alive poking each other. That is a long time to watch with nothing truly exciting happening. This will make the game much more boring to watch and I hope they pivot hard to something else. I like the idea of eliminating the drop ship, but they should make it so teams can still pick where they are dropping and be dropped there instantly, so if all 20 teams want to drop on the same spot they can. It would make contests still happen, but eliminate the RNG of flight paths, and make it so teams on match point could drop on a different POI if they wanted to in order to get anonymity.
Pro's may hate this, but they never should have been allowed to do what they were doing up until now. It was horse shit that they were allowed to collude with each other over drop spots. No contact should be allowed between teams, and no deals should be allowed to be made between teams, both of which happens. For fucks sake we had Raven teaching ANOTHER TEAM how to contest a PoI so that TSM could have the one they wanted. Interesting to see if they will start doing this for the draft.

Why dont they have everyone drop at the same time from a fixed point in the sky. The farther POIs will get a speed boost/no cap on flying speed depending on height

I think this new system would work well with broken moon. The poi’s on that map are pretty balanced.
Let’s be honest a CC team can land Siphon and not even know where circle is going. There is randomness but there’s more of a skill gap because you have to be versatile in every scenario now. So it’s a W change IMO.

I think a poi free selection system where each team selects their chosen poi in game with Two drop ships north and south would be a better change. That's ensures nobody is landing 30s after someone else based on rng drop ship path and preserves the right to contest which is exciting to watch as a viewer.

They might as well let everyone select a load out, the good teams fight for the best POI's, if you can't win a contest then get better. It's a BR, you should be able to land wherever you want. They want to make it "Fair". This is just going to be a large scale Valorant. Not good for the game or the viewers.
I dislike the snake draft. If you want to try to balance, do the nfl draft where the worst team gets first pick. All together they should just leave it be and let the pros land wherever they want. If they want to contest, let them. Yes it screwed up lan for a couple of teams but that's life. Not everything goes according to plan. If the pros want to counter this, they can just come to a gentleman's agreement and just pick pois prior. Only teams that contest would have an issue with their poi. But I don't like how this will mess with teams that take a poi plus a smaller area that isn't on the poi list. I'm not for the draft. I think it's fine the old way.

I personally have always disliked how they did the POIs in algs. I thought the agreement to pre chose drop spots was chalk and no one should know where anyone was dropping from the ship before the game like it is for everyone that normally plays apex. I thought that the pre agreement screwed some teams that were forced to play crappy POIs and let teams choose legends that were more useful in the end circle than ones useful for the whole game and thats why teams wud be forced to change characters if they were contested and I wud rather them have to choose legends not knowing if they are going to be contested like it is for any normal person thats ever jumped from the drop ship and pros just want to not play that part of the game. Also this allowed them to constantly use the same stupid meta characters. Pros never want to play games the way they were meant to be played and want things changed to make the game better for them or do things like claim POIs or the even worse thing in COD where they ban half the guns and perks in the game. Tbh I dont like this new system where teams pick in a draft b4 hand but pros forced this themselves by doing it the way they have been since this game became an esport
I get where your coming from but you have to understand that algs isn’t normal pubs or ranked and teams are playing to win with money on the line. Which means if there is something in the game that is luck based or is fun for the casual player but isn’t good for the competitive integrity they won’t like it, for example if it was like how you said and 2 teams landed conned and one team had conduit and the other was running meta and the conduit team wins bc of the advantage they had then they play the rest of the game off meta or you could land a good poi thinking you’ll get conned and don’t then your stuck on that comp. Plus it’s kind of hard to not know where most teams will land if you play against or watch any teams also teams aren’t forced to play bad poi’s that’s their choice they could get better at team fighting and con a good poi

I donno, watched last night and the games seemed better....oddly more balanced.
Personally, I like the idea since the idea of POI politics and contesting seems so brain dead to me. It really didn’t make much sense that any team has to waste their pro league time and mental battling out for drop locations because of essentially an ego based DIBS.
Obviously tier1 teams have dibs on the best spots, and obviously new teams w nothing to lose will contest them. The system was already a ton of RNG based on human ego, and teams can still MAZER it by refusing to leave even if they lose the contest over and over. And teams that contest have to play around it w Conduit and can’t even play the comp they actually wanna 🤷♂️

I don't like the drop system. I do think wattson has some points along with Gnaske as to why its bad. As a viewer I don't like it because claiming your POI is good content from the Twitter threads to the scrims. Viewership makes the esport keep going and cutting out contests kind of ruin the hype and build up scrims offer up until finals or lan.
