I came here from the Switch video. If there’s one thing I would noticed right away, it’s that your video was shot in an open room with natural lighting, and there’s so much greenery outside of your windows. Weirdly enough, I don’t see much of these kind of setups anymore on UA-cam these days (or maybe I’m just watching too many mainstream UA-camrs). The greenery was nice, if you ask me.
I can totally relate with the whole playing at the desk for so long, and also you can take it wherever you want, travelling etc. Last month I was playing Multiversus while having a picnic, how cool is that!
To be honest, even if a Steam Deck 2 comes out, just be happy with the one you have... Consumerism takes us down the path of "always wanting the latest thing". But in reality do we always "need" the latest thing? I am committed in using my Steam Deck for at least 10 years. With some luck, and long-term support from Valve I could see myself use it for even longer; 15-20 years. The reason why I am saying this is because even if I boot up my mum's 14 year old AMD Turion II laptop I can still game on it. If I focus on 2D (Stardew Valley, Huntdown, Rayman Legends) emulation, and early 3D (Source2, Idtech4, Unreal2) I will still have a blast gaming on it. Considering that the laptop is 14 years old, and the base "gaming performance" abysmal compared to the Steam Deck at their own respective release, I se no reason for the Steam Deck not having a long life ahead of itself.
I am one of the lucky Q2 people, so I have my Steam Deck for 2.5 years now, and it has changed gaming for me. These days I explore and play so many more games without feeling like I am actually spending more time gaming. The reason being that it allows me to game in small bursts of downtime. I also love the fan community, I would urge every Sonic fan to download Sonic Robo Blast 2 from the discover store on the desktop. It's a FANTASTIC fan game that pretty much feels like the 3D sonic we never got for the Sega Saturn. Also, installing GZDoom and then adding a lot of mods has been a great source of joy. I recently played Castlevania - Simon's Destiny and it is SOOO good. :)
Great video. I got my OLED Steam Deck during the summer sale too. Even when the Deck 2 comes out the OG will still always be able to play what it already does. Also you can stream from your PC or services like GeForce Now. Many good years of gaming to come from this amazing little device!
I must say i did not regret buying steam deck. Steam deck was on my radar for quite some time but due to financial problem i couldn't get it. Tht is until this month. I finally save enough money and it arrive on my door step. Man i just love it when i got home from work lie down and just straight up play games without needing to sit in one place just to play. No hate for pc gamers because i too have pc.
The problem is for people trying to play the latest AAA releases and if that’s the case then yeah it is showing its legs but this device can play almost everything from Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox Backlog and the fact its portable this is pretty much the most versatile console ever.
It plays all the games I need so I couldn’t care less. Get an actual PC if you want to play high end games. I play retro games😊 more than enough for me
Good vid dude , Dont get fomo about the SD 2 or new handhelds because thses are PCS.... new hardware will always come out , but that doesnt mean yours will magiclly stop working lol Think of it like a laptop
I recently sold my legion go and got a steam deck oled.. and I'm playing this way more, the oled screen is beautiful and I like that it feels like a handheld gaming console and not like a pc
ik I'm pretty late to this (great video essay btw) but this vid convinced me to get a deck, and i love everything about it. thanks man for recommending me it!
For me, my stem deck is a backlog destroyer 😂 it play all game before 2016-2018 in ultra 60 fps quite easily. And for newer title it run them very well, 30fps for almost all of them. This machine is just so impressive. Battery life is low and the oled screen is better but the 64gb model is good enough for me
Yeah, I’ve had the steam deck since q2 of 2022 from that original batch and I fell in love. I upgraded to the OLED because of the screen but also because of the weight as it was noticeably lighter than the original. I feel like a lot of people are taking for granted what this device actually is capable of given the fact that other pc handhelds exist that are more powerful. I think the fact that this thing performs more efficiently in certain titles than these other handhelds is a true testament on how valve really made a console-like experience for PC/linux. Sure, a more powerful deck would be nice but I’m not so sure if they can make it without compromises in the design and weight. I already feel like even though the deck is comfortable for how big it is, it could use some shrinking. All in all, it was technically my first PC and now I have my own rig and they just compliment each other
It’s been almost exactly 9 months since I bought my steam deck, I’m still learning new things about it 😭 now I’m hooked on playing Minecraft and FFXIV on it nonstop Wasn’t interested on those games until I bought the steam deck, now I’m working on emulation. Such a great device!
I saddly have reached the stage where I use the steam deck for only indies and some emulation. It's still amazing just wish it had the ability to boost it's clock when on a charger
I got my 264 GB SD in April of this year I gave it to my son and upgraded to the 1TB OLED about 2 weeks ago and it's amazing. I know late to the game, but I'm in it!
Treat your Deck well and you'll be able to get a great discount towards your next PC handheld (Valve, or otherwise) -- these are very much in demand on the second-hand market and will be for a very good while as many of them will go on to sell in 3rd world countries where Valve doesn't ship officially.
We camp A LOT, Steam Deck comes with me and I hotspot, I can play ESO in the evening, get my daily, work on the event. Never miss anything. I have a dock in the trailer and a small (ish) tv. Perfect. I originally ordered, in the first round from Valve, then got cold feet and cancelled. Valve has been hit and miss with making a really cool product then abandoning said product, so you could see my reluctance with being a first round recipient 🙂I'm super happy the Steam Deck is here to stay with new chips designed / ordered I believe? for the next iteration. Even if a new Steam Deck came out, I think the first gen would still have value and a lifespan, if you look at Valve hardware surveys, many people game on some older systems, and many games run well enough. And if you are the elitist, is the Steam Deck really for you anyways ?
Was gunna wait until a steamdeck 2 but since valve says the technology doesn't exist yet I decided to send it and mine arrives today. I don't really play AAA games anymore so I think it is going to be fantastic for me.
Just got mine last week and I’m enjoying it even though I’ve only played a demo for trepang 2, played about 3 hours of Prey and about 1hr of sunset overdrive. I Play my ps5 heavily and can honestly say the steam deck brings a smile to my face!
I love the Steam Deck. I'm just butchered on the whether to install Windows or not, because getting shit to work on my Steam Deck via Linux is so time-consuming and cumbersome.
I installed Windows on an SD card (bad idea I know) to play Honkai Star Rail and it has works wonders. In my opinion, if you prefer Windows or even don’t mind dual booting, you should do it. I think its worth it. I know Windows is clunky on an PC handheld but once you get everything to work, it just works.
Steam Deck is gonna run almost all Indie Games probably for eternity and run most current AAA-Games. If it gets outdated you can reuse it for so many Purposes you wont expect to exist for example making is to a "Netflix" Server for you DVDs or using it as a Regular Computer or give this to you Kid bcs they break stuff and Steam Deck is repairable pretty easy. My Steam Deck (LCD) is already "outdated" meaning it got REVISION with improvements and not more Power. Valve generally barely releases Hardware (only if its really needed )see Valve Index that still has not released a new Version of it.
Thanks for this video, you have encouraged me further to try to find one on sale. They are so expensive. I play my Switch everyday, a long with some of my retro consoles (emulation consoles), and gameboy advance. But Steam has always stood out to me because there are sooooooo many games that I can't play on my other devices. Games I truly miss and wish to play. My only concern is the battery life. I however heard some models have improved that??? Is that true?? I still was wondering if the very very first steam deck holds up well today (was that the model you are showing here). Please tell me what you recommend, and price wise which is the best way to go. Id really like to have the games in my physically library playable in handheld mode, as most of the consoles I have sadly died or gave up after all of these years. Would anyone say there is a System handheld similar to Steam Deck for a good price, or someone that does similar??? Trying to find something in the 150-200$ range.
Whenever valve and Microsoft is able to dual boot windows game over this thing is powerfully enough to run AAA games the issue is the software compatibility take black myth wukong I’ve seen it get 60 fps and a steady 40fps so I kno for a fact this is all most people need for the price good stuff bro
you can actually dual boot windows and steam os using third party tools and partitioning the drives, i used rEFInd and partitioned my 256gb drive in the Steam Deck.
The fact I have to wait to play Star Wars Outlaw is annoying because Steam Deck is too weak to play it. About to make the Switch to the Rog X😊 looking Ike. WAY better device in every category
@califpv The LCD is bonkers for the price, I have the OLED and recently purchased the LCD for my wife as my birthday gift to her (yes Steam Deck is so good I got it for her for my birthday lol). Side by side the gaming differences is nigh identical.
LCD is still worth it if you live in Australia 1. It's significantly cheaper 2. Internet here is so bad you'll get burn in waiting for a download to finish
I have spending problems he says as he spends $210 on a computer that makes my $1,500 laptop a paper weight at best either i have serious problems or this guy is delusional considering how much raw compute power he got for that price
Maybe you can stop being a certified yapper and be a certified rapper. I'd like to see all of your UA-cam videos as rap. Jk love your videos. I love my deck as well.

what is up with you and other people who seem to think new releases are the only games people will or should be playing? there are years worth of backlog in any genre you wish to play, and the Deck will play them just fine
@@elnkr2603 Yes, play on lowest at 480p that is upscaled to 900p with farm gen to add latency. (At the end, you are playing a blurry game around 30-49 fps.) The algorhithm brought me here after buying a Steam Deck in the ongoing sale. Nice video! Can't wait to get mine delivered :)
Haha, yeah same story!
That 25% off was too hard to pass up! Sold my VR headset that was collecting dust and that paid for the 512GB LCD deck.
I can totally relate with the whole playing at the desk for so long, and also you can take it wherever you want, travelling etc. Last month I was playing Multiversus while having a picnic, how cool is that!

Still love it and have upgraded my SSD to 1tb
