- Wave two of the Adventures of Indiana Jones Retro collection sees some all new figures. Today I take a look at the two figures released for the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and Short Round.
There are all new modern figures designed to look like they would fit in with the vintage original figures if the line had continued. But how do they look and are they worth getting? Let's take a look.

2023 is proving to be the year Short Round gets his due.
You would think all these years later they would have improved the manufacture of the figures but no, the quality of the figures from 80s was better!
I'm tired of Hasbro's chicanery. So they're not getting my $ anymore. Excellent video Dave! Basically I've been priced out of collecting. So now, I only focus on MOTU Origins.
Please make a tutorial on how to do a custom wip and a custom man purse / satchel ! “You can do it!!!!!!” Jealous you got these first lol
Oscar winner short round.
What annoys me the most is that they expect people to buy these figures, as bad as they are.
They're not 'bad' they're retro. Figures did actually look like that in the 80s.
Except figures in the 80s were made better. So they are bad retro figures 😂
I do agree with the lack of accessories on these figures. I think , keeping it movie-accurate (Indy lost his pistol before the bridge scene), Indy should have had the satchel and Short Round should've had Indy's jacket rolled up and tied with Indy's whip (the 2008 figure had this accessory). Hasbro needs to give these figures more attention to detail on accessories.
The fan made custom is way better. Fans still making the best stuff.
Apparently the Raiders figures are being re-released on thicker card now too. They must've got a lot of complaints
The ones I bought in the UK had the thicker card
Interesting. I got mine in the UK and they are all on thin card. When the rest of that wave arrives ( from a different supplier ) maybe they will have different card.
@@toypolloi got mine from Star Action Figures
Mine came from the Hasbro website.
@@brunobillion3435 I should've ordered my Adventure Series figures from them. I ordered from Forbidden Planet and In Demand Toys and I haven't received anything yet
We need a Mola Ram!
Both of those figures are pretty disappointing. I like the shirt overlay on Shorty personally. That kind of thing was uncommon of that era of toy, but not unheard of, so I'm fine giving it the retro-pass. It's a nice touch, but it doesn't make up for the lack of knee articulation, which I consider inexcusable.
I was planning on getting the last crusade Indy just to give ToD Indy the whip and messenger bag. Thank you for the review!
Maybe I'm just used to the GI Joe/o-ring construction, but it's weird to me that Indy's crotch looks like a butt and his butt looks like a crotch. :/
And the torch makes me think...Short Round: Olympic Edition.
Be careful!! Don't cut towards your hand! Great Review!
I haven't seen these in the US Yet. They aren't even on ebay. Thanks Dave!
They're coming in late May/June.
I agree they could have done better but I've gotta get a short round, it's a bit odd they only released 2 , they still have a lot of characters, I hope we get the mature man that was like a guru or doctor of sorts. I just remember him so much.
The lackadaisical figures are due to cost. Hasbro should be called Hasbeen.
Are you telling me there is no one at the ideas table that raises their hand and says “are we happy with this? “
I feel these big companies should involve fans in the process . They Seem to have no idea what people like
They just need to employ someone who pays attention. These things are so obvious.
@@toypolloi I could imagine the details get shut down by the money people trying to save a penny
The Shortround should come with a little Oscar.
I guess the basic style is a deliberate thing to replicate “retro” style figures 🤷🏻♂️ personally I still really like them, but totally a shoulder bag would’ve just finished Indie nice 👍
Calimah!!!!!!Calimah! Calimah!!!!......ceo of hasboro...Calimah....take his heart out, lol
Didn't LJN originally produce Indy figures, for Temple Of Doom, back in the day?
They did.
Wow. I was really looking forward to that Temple of Doom Indy, but the details are just atrocious on that figure! Aside from the paint app issues you pointed out, it looks like his left arm isn't even properly aligned with the torso- The arm juts out past the shoulder at the back. Indy has his gun belt, but he's missing his "pants" belt, so it makes the waistline look bland, and that's exacerbated by the fact that he doesn't even have the satchel and strap.
I could understand "soft" details on the parts that were scanned from the original toys, but ToD Indy is a new sculpt, so he should have properly sculpted detail on the shirt. I think I might skip this one now. :( At least Short Round looks good.
Oh dear. The modern version does appear to be much poorer in comparison to the vintage version. Quite expensive for what you get, especially in light of a 'lack' of accessories.
Having said that, Indiana Jones is one of my favourite franchises ever, so I'm still going to pick up a few of these figures.
Always something interesting on this channel
They probably molded the two arms at the same time, so either they had to paint an entire arm in flesh color, or "just" the sleeve in shirt color.
I guess its simpler to applicate the "darker" shirt color to a brighter tone than vice versa.
I was not aware that temple of doom figures have been launched 😱 You cannot find anything here in germany. Even the Hasbro Pulse EU store does not show them 🙄
I got them from in demand toys. I think they may have sold out already.
All the Raiders figures I bought (including Indy) are on thicker card like thid one. Got them from a UK online shop
Hey Dave
Thanks for sharing. I saw a clip of adult "Short Round" and "Indie" hugging at the Oscars, was cool to see them together.
Take care
Target in the US doesn't have them yet.
They come out in June.
Ayup Dave.
Great video as always.
Just need to ask though... where did you get hold of the temple of doom figs??
Cheers matey.
Keep, up the cracking work squire.
I got them from in demand toys. Think they may have sold out already.
@Toy Polloi Thank you Dave. Il keep looking.
Cheaply made. They could of been so much better shame. Good review
they made retro Temple of Doom figures and didn’t make Mola Ram?!
In general, villain characters seem to be a contentious subject when it comes to new Indiana Jones merchandise. I'm stunned Lego made the german fighter jet from The Last Crusade, in their recent wave.
Great video! Where can one source the custom Temple of Doom Indy by Ryan?
Thanks. It was a gift.
@@toypolloi noted, I inadvertently skipped your explanation on how to build your own combining original and map room indy w Sallah! Thanks!
I'm probably going to pass on these Retro Indy figures. I don't have any of the vintage ones, but it looks like they cut too many corners on these repro / retro lines.
I made the same Temple of Doom Indy custom you have there (Map Room body, regular Indy head, Monkey Man or Swordsman arm, 2008 Hasbro satchel and machete) and yeah, it's infinitely better than this Hasbro Retro. And I'm not sure why they made him look "chubby", as well. Just not good at all. I've also seen Short Round customs done much better, with actual articulated knees like the Kenners. Hasbro is just incredibly lazy.
I was excited to see they were expanding the line but these are a very strong start. It is ver disappointing they used more modern toy techniques on Short Round. They should have just made it part of the sculpt like they would have then. At least the cardbacks are better 🤷♂️
Where did you find these? I hadn't realized wave 2 was out yet?
I got them from in demand toys. I think they may have already sold out.
The Short Round figure isn't too bad, but your custom ToD Indy is miles ahead of the Hasbro one.
I wish they just gave the license to super7
I don't think super7 make very good figures. I've yet to be impressed with any I've bought.
How’d you get these so soon?
They are online in a few shops in the UK. I think most have sold out currently. Cheers
@@toypolloi thank you Dave
If you're going to make these figures put 100% effort in to them or don't make them at all. If they were a couple buck more but make them better I think people would still buy them. Show us you actually care Hasbro.
The figures seemed to have been done in a hurry without much quality control. ( my opinion ) . Fans are doing better work . Thanks for the show and tell . PS.... no action character has had his shirt torn as much as Doc Savage 😂🤣.
so what is it are they good or are they disappointing or is the nostalgia too strong?
They are good at disappointing. If they could make these figures look great in the 80s, why can't they do it now?
@@toypolloi because kenner is not hasbro and the plastic used has changed
How did you get these so quick?
I ordered them from in demand toys. Think they have sold out already.
I opened one yesterday. Wow, these are horrible quality plastic and paint. Can’t hold the accessories. Better left on card.
How do they stack up to the LJN ones?
Well, the LJN's were larger, 5" figures and totally different.
Totally different. LJNs versions are big thick chunky figures.
@@redadamearth I knew that
They seem quite poor quality. :/
Are these relaunched toys?
Yes, styled to look like the vintage toys.
@@toypolloi maybe there will be play sets
I very much doubt it. But never say never.
Great review video, Dave.
I have to say that I was tempted to pick up these 3.75 Indy figures, but after seeing them in you videos ( and other UA-cam videos ) I have decided not to bother.
The flimsy cardbacks, the bad paint applications and the poor sculpt quality of the figures, has put me off altogether.
In my opinion, they look like cheap bootleg figures and I cannot understand Hasbro's decision in releasing such poor action figures.
They are not great. But I'm still getting them as the originals are so hard to find. They could have been so much better.
Hasbro did a better job on the 2008 line, and went deep in to each movie also. This retro line seems like it will be a few figs from each movie and that’s it.
No love whatsoever for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull so far, here or even the 6” line. Even if the movie sucked, it’s still part of the Indiana Jones timeline.
I seen em here in Australia the other day and they look really bad
The indy figure looks like a farmer
How the hell did you get these already?
In demand toys had them for a very short while so I grabbed them. Still missing a couple of the second wave. And the rest of the first wave is in pre order.
Hasbro is pathetic! They do as little as possible and over charge by 100%
I hate the UK/European cards. They are just a mass of legal text. In about 15 different languages. They look awful but we're stuck with them. Too many European Union regulations!
The sculpting seems really soft and cheaply done. Easy pass on these for me.
Short Round, a character who spends most of the movie sitting, doesn't have jointed legs. 🙄
These figures are really really awful. I don’t understand how their RRP isn’t like 5 dollars at the most.
I was looking forward to getting them all on clearance and selling them for crazy money on ebay in a couple years, but these garbage figures will never be worth anything.
Are they going to remake the playsets?
I doubt it. But never say never.
The fact it doesn’t come with a whip or bag is absolutely ridiculous. This line is a joke
