Man alive, this is almost exactly how I made my Indy bags. I even tried the foam at first for the straps. Painted brown, they looked really nice. But if you weren't careful handling them, they'd stretch and the paint would crack and flake off. That was really annoying because I'd nearly finished them. But after a trip back to the drawing board, they turned out amazing. And like you Toy Polloi, I was thrilled with the finished look. Such a great idea to complete the first two Indy figures, and save nearly £30. I need to make two whips now. 🤠
When using this type of foam with paint it is best to heat seal the surface of the foam with a heat gun or similar (probably best with something this small to do this before cutting the pieces. You then need to use a flexible paint like Plastidip aerosols as the paint needs to move with the foam underneath.😉
This is a fantastic idea! And yes I agree every Indy should have had his bag. I am ordering the blue stuff from Amazon and I have everything else. Can’t wait to have enough bags.
Thanks for figuring it out (as always) and then showing us how.
Fun little creative project, thanks for sharing! I agree, this accessory definitely adds a lot to the overall look of the figure. 👏
Milliput and blue stuff are fantastic tools to have. I've cast loads of He Man swords and Carbonite blocks from it.
Brilliant job. Just what the figures needed.
Hey Dave
These turned out great, they really complete the figures.
Take care
Ps. I find myself looking forward to these videos each week and the others are a welcome bonus.
Thank you😊
Awesome idea!!
Awesome video/tutorial as usual. Thanks for sharing this with the community.
Wow Dave!! These really POP with the addition of the bag. It literally improved every other version of Indy. Fantastic Work!🔥🔥🔥
Fantastic detail!
Thanks TP, I’m definitely going to try my hand at making these for my other Indys.
First, I'm a fan of all your videos. Having said that, this video makes me so happy to see being made. An obvious need for each figure that hasbro took advantage of in order to get more money out of people. Thank you for making this video to help save collectors from spending unessary money to make their Indy figures complete.
This technique would also work on G.I. Joe bags like Snake Eyes explosive bag or Beachhead ammo bag or maybe even the backpack which gets broken.
Thank you for coming up with this idea! Also thinking of using this for making a new gun as well!
Great information about the blue stuff. I just ordered it to cast my own parts as it is exactly what I was looking for.
Wow. Awesome job. I use milliput to work on my matchbox custom cars. Replacing a sunroof with a new panel made from milliput. Such a cool stuff. Keep up the good work. Thanks you for showing us so many hints and winks.
Hey Dave. As a side note, these figures are sold at a department store called Target here in the US. The entire range are all on Clearance for half price.
These look very much spot-on to the original! I went on eBay and bought the 2008 Hasbro Indy satchels and they look great on my Temple of Doom Indy figure. But, they're not like this retro figure version. It looks way better than the 2008 satchel.
For the straps, you could also try craft lacing. It’s a flexible kind of plastic that works well for stuff like that. I use it to make rifle slings for my action figures. It comes in a lot of colors too. It’s glossy, so I lightly sand it and hit it with a coat of flat clear. Just a suggestion! Keep up the good work, you’re the best!
Great !!! Now let’s make a proper whip
Perhaps a couple of strips of plastic in his torso, so his whip arm makes a little snapping sound? ;) Just kidding, but that is a video I'd watch anyway.
Blue Stuff is like half chewed Wham bar!!
Another great video Dave. Such a shame that Hasbro cheap out on the accessories with these figures, especially when they are charging so much for them, and seemingly increasing prices all the time now. I might have bought into this range if they were more reasonably priced for what they are. Anyway, this is a nice cost effective way of obtaining an accessory that arguably should have been included in the first place. Well done.
The real bag used in the movies is a bit anachronistic - it's a British gas mask haversack from 1940 - onwards. If you look closely in the movies, and indeed, the bag included with the Indy figures from several years back, you can see the attachment for the gas mask hose on the side of the bag.
It's odd that it wasn't included with these retro figures. Another thing to notice, is that Indy wears the bag sometimes UNDER his jacket - some of the more recent figures show this detail.
@@ooneybird27 - I knew that, but I don't travel - sunlight and me do not get on. 😆😆😆
Quite right, it's a MK VII. The disc on the side is not a hose attachment point, though, it's for wrapping a provided string around when wearing it on your front. The string goes around your back and keeps it from flopping around.
So easy and cheap to make. Highlights how cheap Hasbro were not including them with all the Indy figures.
'Gimp String' is 2.5mm wide, and is already flexible and comes in many colors, including brown. It might be a good alternative for the Bag Strap. You could cast it in place using the epoxy putty molded around it.
Are you crazy? How could Hasbro possibly spare the extra 3 cents it would have taken to include the bag with each figure? I mean they're ONLY charging about double what the figures should probably actually retail for. How do you expect the bigwigs at the top floor of Hasbro HQ to afford their solid gold toilets and late night Pablo Escobar parties? You're crazy...I like you Toy Polloi, but you're crazy, man! ;D Oh and great video as usual!
Wait ! Where did u get the torch Map room Indy is carrying?
I made it. You will find more info at the end of this video: ua-cam.com/video/Y0K0ddq--yw/v-deo.html
I’m saying that old blue stuff mould was for six million dollar man bionic chips
Hi Joe tunnel rat has a similar bag
Nice work! It's a shame you even have to do this - they should never have shipped without the bag.
Totally. Not sure why they didn't all have them. But then again, it was a fun project 🤗
Have you tried UV resin for duplicating parts?
I have and it works great,Ive used play dough and u.v resin and it works.
you have to scrub off the excess dough with a tooth brush but it works great.
Those look AMAZING! Always love to see you cast with Blue Stuff! Of course, we also got to see the usual styrene and Milliput too. They're remarkably versatile. If you'd cut up a beach ball and some Lego, I'd have a Toy Palloi BINGO!
I noticed you're been using Vallejo paints more often. That's what I settled on for my miniatures based on all the recommendations I could find. I remember you were having trouble for awhile finding some specific Humbrol colors, and I just this minute read they had to stop production and then reformulate. Do you now prefer Vallejo, or is it just a matter of availability? Have you ever had problems with the open Humbrol pots drying out under your (formerly?) hot lights? I read that some users complained about that with Games Workshop / Citadel pots. Are the droppers from Vallejo more convenient? Have you had trouble keeping them mixed? Have you considered a shaker / mixer like the little ones used for nail polish? Do you put bearings or BBs in any of them?
Wow! Wall of text! Everyone comment on their experiences! Let's get lots of traffic for Dave!
Thanks. I am using Vallejo as it's all I can get easily currently. The all work much the same way I have found. The dropped type pots are certainly a bit easier but I never feel they get mixed properly by shaking.
As you can see the results work well, so use which ever you prefer and can easily get.
@@ooneybird27 Yeah, I've seen almost universally positive feedback on Vallejo. What cinched it for me was the guys at the game store. They SELL Citadel paints and even they recommended Vallejo.
Couldn’t you push the whole back, strap included into the mold and cast the whole thing in resin? Maybe put a little green enamel paint into the resin before curing so you don’t have to paint the bag? Then just paint the strap.
I think resin would be to brittle, especially with something this small and thin. But if you have it, it's worth a try.
@@toypolloi Yes there are raisins that can be brittle but I think there are some that are a little more flexible. I’ve made molds of the clicker in a kenner R2 unit, and cast them in resin, and they turned out to be too flexible to actually make the clicking sound. Just a thought. There may be resins that are a little more flexible and less brittle.
This isn't related to the video as such but I see BaremetalHW is still a patreon. Any idea what happened to him? I miss his content. He's how I got into watching these great videos
I've not heard from him in a while. I also hope he makes more content as it was always very enjoyable to watch.
TIL: Indy uses a purse.
Amazing work. Those bags really do finish the look and are a curious omission for these modern renditions.
