An excellent reminder not to go nuts for ANY job, no matter how exciting it sounds! Could you maybe share some advice about Mom’s looking for the return onto or looking to switch job after maternity leave? It’s my situation right now and I find it super hard (maybe just my own bias), not to think my career is over.

I was recommended for promotion within my company this year. The selection were made and I was push back for a later date , I was so upset that I wasn’t chosen for the position right away since I was recommended. Then Corona virus came and all those persons were lay off and I am still working. I remember giving so much thanks to God for not allowing me to be selected at that time.
Trust God is timing is sure

As always, you have just the right words.... I was rejected this past week from what I thought was an incredible job opportunity, and I think the problem was not that I was discarded, the real problem is that I was told that I'll be offered and at the next day they decided not to follow the process with me (whaaat?) so.... I think sometimes companies are just crazy and irresponsible with candidates....

Although I didn't beg for a job, I felt that I left an immeasurable impression because I drew ah-has, wow, I've never heard that before from all 4 interviewers. I also garnered smiles and laughs and felt I had established affinity w/the hiring MGR. The job itself was the perfect fit. I would've excelled at it--to the company's benefit. However, I did NOT get the job! The decline notice read, in part, everyone was qualified. However, we went with a different candidate. The job was posted two more times before either the MGR or HR had enough sense to change the job title and description to 'hide' it, because I kept applying to the job--welcoming the opportunity to share new accomplishments and address any weaknesses that led them to go w/another candidate. Basically, the MGRS LIED!
Given the amount of discrimination in the workplace, I no longer believe that 'life isn't fair.' 2020 proved that life is all about favoritism and favoritism is linked inexplicably to isms +money. The MGRS lacked diversity of thought and ethics and easily felt threatened by me. They were also looking for a unicorn, or a purple squirrel even though none of them were either. No surprise that the company is among those that was held to task for failing in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion this year. So while I dogged the bullet--of being subject to leaders who would easily devalue my skills, sabotage me or see me as a threat to their own existence, it wasn't because life isn't fair. It's because people are biased, SELFISH and prideful. 2020 proved that ethical leaders can ensure that life IS fair--hence EQUITY in DEI.
The stress of not being financially secure is one reason why job rejection had lingering effects on me. Ditto for not knowing my purpose. Doors do open, but not always the one you knock on in the timeframe you expect. With less professional opportunities available, and massive shifts in marketplace demands, this video is timely. Ideal to do a video about what to do until opportunity finds you--and I don't mean the obvious: update resume, network on LI, tell your network, take classes/obtain a degree, etc.. What practical things can people do to find or do meaningful work and sustain themselves/family? How can qualified pros 'shift' and adapt to new job demands? Where are the jobs?

Thank you for this video, Brigette. I was recently rejected for a job that seemed like it would have been perfect. I had a solid background and skillset to make a valuable contribution in the role, the organization is one that I would have been proud to be a part of, and it would have been a great next step to advance my career. Ultimately, I was rejected for reasons that didn't really make a lot of sense and that were contradictory to what the hiring manager said during our interviews together. I saw the job relisted for new candidates shortly thereafter, adding more sting to the rejection. I was pretty crushed by the whole experience, and it wasn't until I watched this video that I realized I was still hanging onto that hurt. This video was definitely the wake up call that I needed. I'm a longtime follower on LinkedIn, looking forward to seeing more of your content here!

Thank you Brigette for sharing your personal story. Very relatable. I have had my share of rejections from jobs, a few of which I really had my heart set on. It was difficult for me to keep going and I even gave up the job search for a while. Then when I was laid off, I was much happier, as it was a disrespectful work environment. I decided to put on my job search hat again. I knew I did not want to return to that company, and was determined to land something else.
Your encouraging comments about the job hunt inspired me as well! What you said about it 'not being your door,' stayed with me. I am happy to say that I finally got a job offer!! To everyone still searching, keep on going, one day you will hear that "yes!!'🌟

I just went through the same thing where I was rejected from what should have been a perfect job. Or so I thought. I found out later on that the company had lied to me by saying that there was no such job available, yet they hired someone else externally for the position. I also found out that others in the company had similar experiences where promises were not being kept or they were lied to as well. In the end, the question that kept going through my mind was, "I have a certain set of ethical values. Do I really want to work for a company that does not share those ethics and values?" Rejection for me turned into a double edge sword. On one side, yes, it hurt. But on the other side, it has allowed me to divorce myself from a company that has failed in its ethical responsibilities. For me, I consider that as a win.
Captian Jean Luc Picard of Star Trek: the Next Generation once said, "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness, that is life." I will move on, I will get better, I will survive.

I'm trying to realize especially numbers 2, 4, 6, and 7, but its easier said than done. Then again, it's not even been two full weeks, so I should probably give myself grace.
Maybe I really didn't have divine favour regarding the position, or it wasnt meant to be anyway. That being said, I do appreciate you bringing God and spirituality into this; I don't see how I could live without that. I've literally gotten over 1500 rejection letters, and these are for entry-level jobs. I took classes. I updated my resumes. Just that at my age...

Well said! Definitely a huuuge thumbs up for this wonderful and encouraging video!
Yeah we have to admit that the life is unexpected and might take very unexpected turns. But let’s face it and fight back. Strongly agree with you that if you fail to have your dream job, well there is even something much better awaiting for you. The right door will open for you for sure.
People are just easily frightened and look down upon themselves after one fail but your video has motivated me and so many others I strongly believe! Thank you so much!)

Thank you. I have obtained my Bachelor degree in Accounting in 2010. I have yet been given the opportunity to work in the field. Companies would say entry level which i have applied for then ask for 2 to 3 year of experience..its 10 years sense i earned my degree and still no job offer due to lack of experience, however i have not given up..I believe someone will be willing to give me the opportunity to gain experience in my field of Accounting. It is very heart breaking to constantly received rejected over reject not been hired to gain experience..But i have not given up..thank you for this video..

After a few months after hearing Fleetwood Macs' Tusk, one phrase stuck out the most. "Just tell me that you want me." When I heard that, I slowly began to understand the logic behind that. People need things, but they have to want them for them to be valuable. The same can be put for getting a job. To be needy sounds weak, and if you don't need a job but you're going for it anyway, it gives the idea that you *want it*.
That's my take on it. Also, God is much bigger than our fears. We can't rely on ourselves alone for going through things, we have to learn from our experiences.

I have learned lessons like these you shared, you inspired me to proudly share my stories and inspire others. As an agilist, failure is my friend so making peace with it is necessary. Idealism is harmful in situations of rejection. Thank you Brigette!

rejection is painful. More than the physical pain. I know i am worth it and i know along the way, i have learned better to position myself for better roles. I got rejected alot the past months despite my best effort. After interviews, silent. Not even rejection letter i have recieved. I called them once, the answer i got was “we are still interviewing other candidates, please bear with us”… and then i never call them again. I just keep applying. A Single mother with 2 young kids, being jobless for 3 months now with not much savings left. I think i might need to ask for help from my family financially if the next 3 months i cant secure a job. I never knew how strong I was until god put me in this ringer and defeat battles that is impossible to defeat. Life goes on apparently.. so i have still have hope
