I constantly catch myself humming Tipperary, I don't know why. Notwithstanding the cultural significance of the song, it is very well composed.

Being a USMC vet, and having ran away from home @ 17 to enlist, as well as serving for 20 yrs (1986-2006 (15 yrs Semper Fi, w/ 9 yrs the Dept. of Defense (time overlapping), this classic ALWAYS brings tears 😭 to my eyes, especially for my “brothers and sisters” who didn’t come back (that goes for the ones who DID come back, but NOT for the better…😢❤️💛💜)

My Pop a WW! vet I can still smell his cigar and my grandpa hero...well learned many songs ! As well so much first hand history of NYC and life from in the early century onwards. I am so lucky...good childhood and more education than I got in school !! Pop had only an 8th grade education but had a vocabulary far beyond people who had higher education ! He made life so exciting and educational . Every week we learned a page of new words....plus a smattering of foreign language. Trips to NYC ro learn and experience "culture". He had been born and raised there. Damn I am so lucky. I was so blessed as later in life had many challenges...better to have a good background than no solid foundation and weak life later.
