Great idea and how-to. Thank you so much. Just a side note, maybe someone else has mentioned it but, these are blossoms, not seeds. I grow lavender and usually, I don't point things out on what I watch on UA-cam, but just thought I'd share this in case someone goes shopping for seeds and find they come in envelops to plant. Hope you don't take offense.
You're a great instructor. You take the fear away from not doing this as well as you do. You've been gifted Julia! Thank you for inspiring so many of us to try something new.
Julia, you are so talented!! I love every single thing you sew, craft or create. God has given you such a gift. Keep on doing those right things & God will continue to bless everything you put your hands to.
Julia these little sachets are adorable. I have my two little granddaughters coming to stay in a couple of weeks and we always do something creative so these will be fabulous projects for them to make for their Mummy and Daddy. You have such talent Julia and you are so generous in sharing your world and your work with all of us. I always learn something from you and your tutorials brighten my day, thank you. Sending you lots of hugs and loves from the UK. Have a fantastic week ahead. Dorothy 🙋🏻😘❤️
Hi Dorothy, I can't wait to be a grandma! I keep putting the bug in my adult kids ear but so far they're ignoring me! LOL This will be a great project to share with your granddaughters. Have a great week! Julia
I love these, I make cards, and am learning to sew. I could make these either flat and glue onto card, or as a lavender bag and loosely tack onto a card so they could be removed. I love your channel, so many great ideas. Thank you
Hi, Yes I love combining mixed media and fabric whenever I can. It's great to be able to use art supplies in many ways. And the aroma is amazing! Julia
Hi, I gave these as gift at Christmas. My daughter loves hers and puts it under her pillow. Also a great co-worker or teacher gift. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
So creative and just adorable. Just found your channel and subscribed. Love how you combined the stamps on fabric and then added all the embellishments. Great job! I love the bird one!
Hi Pam, Thank you so much for subscribing and taking the time to comment. This was a really fun project and will be making more soon. I have so many lavender buds left over! Happy creating! Julia
Julia , I am speechless.....I am so in love of your work. You made my day today with this project. I am loving the Mixed Media projects so much because all your beautiful and talented work. You are soooo natural. I wish I can have half of your talent😊 . Thank you!!!
Hi Adriana, I am so glad you enjoyed this video on lavender sachets. I really enjoy collaging on fabric and combining Mixed Media and fabric. I have always hoarded my art supplies until I started using them on fabric. Thanks for watching! Happy creating. Julia
I've wanted to start sewing again and you have given me such inspiration! Those sachets look adorable. I've picked up some rubber stamps so instead of trying to sell them, I may use them in some projects. Thank you very much.
Hi Doris, This so such an easy project to start sewing again. I love adding the rubber stamps, stencils etc. Each one turns out so different! Have fun creating, Julia
Love this creative project. Can’t wait to try it. Need to purchase and gather up some supplies. Thank u Julia for sharing your talent and creativeness.❤️
I bought lavender from Amazon as well, It was very fragrant on arrival, and after careful opening of the box, I found the bag had burst. Holy cow, that reminded me of packing peanuts gone wild. took me 3 days to clean that up. LOL
Oh no! It's hard to pick up too - it sticks to things. I use to fill my sachets while watching TV until I noticed my husband's constant sneezing LOL. Thanks for watching, Julia
Hello from North Wales, another great creative way to use up scraps , of which I keep thanks to your tip. Is there an alternative to lavender seeds please, keep well Julia. Jane x
omgsh these are soooooo adorable and would make a great wide belt!!!!!! sure makes you look at boo boo differently you can fix just about anything with stitches and paint!!!!! As always love your videos!!!!! It's almost June here and time for our nearby Lavender fest. Enjoy your summer!!!!! Plz do share another video on how you have your shop set up this year!!!! So cute in times past! Loved how you had the cuffs in the little suitcase!!!!
I think they are dried lavender flowers. I like the tip of putting a little something soft to pad it out as it also makes it easier to sew closed on my machine. Thank you.
Yes you are right-they're dried lavender flowers-oops. The fiber fill does makes it easier to sew closed-it holds everything in! Thanks for watching. Julia
Julia, I found you a few weeks ago & have been watching your videos every chance I get. You’re awesome. I want to learn free motion, you make it look so easy. These little sachets would be the perfect place to try free motion. Any suggestions on how to start? TY - Cyndie
Do you offer these in your etsy shop? I think they would sell like hotcakes. I would definitely buy some because, though I'd love to make them myself, I don't have a free motion option on my machine and don't have most of the materials you used to create them. But, I love love the look of them. Thanks for the excellent tutorial!
Hi Marcia, If the item that I am working on will be laundered repeatedly, I will wash my fabrics first. Many of my projects will never be washed; my journals, lavender sachets, sunglass cases etc. The sweatshirts I use are pigment dyed and have very little shrinkage. They have already been washed in the dyeing process. I still wash and dry several of the colors to get some of the over dyeing out of them. I rarely paint on any of my garments. I usually embellish with appliqués, quilted patches, and thread. Hope this helps. Julia
How Cute!! I will try to make these now. Thanks for showing us how. I love that sewing machine. I have a simple one with with some cute stitches but I don't think it will go around the designs like you did. Would your sewing machine be good for beginners or is it more of an advanced type?
Hi, The technique that I use to go around the designs is free-motion stitching. Most any sewing machine works for this. You have to be able to drop or disengage your feed dogs. The pressure foot used is called a free motion quilting foot. A darner foot would also work. I set my stitch length to "0". It takes practice but is so fun and opens a whole new world of sewing! Happy creating! Julia
I’ve had a few sewing machines in my life - never fancy ones, and they never had feed-dogs that you could lower. I had to buy a more expensive machine with that in mind. There is a Singer heavy duty machine for less than $150 that is supposed to be good for free-motion😊
Nice work & ideas. What kind of sewing machine are you using? Very nice. Would you mind sharing how much it cost you? The sewing machine I have is 50 years old. I received it when I was 20.
Hi Dianna, I am using a Janome Memory Craft 8200 in this video. It's spendy ! Around $2400! I like it but wouldn't buy it again. My main problem with it is that it doesn't grab the fabric like it should. I find myself shoving the fabric under the pressure foot. I also have a small Elan 2600 that I really like. It retails for around $300-$400. It doesn't have any decorative stitches and the work area is smaller but it really sews great! Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
stitchesbyjulia Hi Julia-Thank you for responding. When I watched you sew around that flower on the sachet, I thought wow. My machine is so antiquated. Yes, that is quite pricey. Thsnk you for your in inputvon your alternate machine. Good suggestion. Thanks again.
Hi, I have a bunch cut out and hope to get them done this week. I will try to remember to message you when I have them listed. Thanks for the interest, Julia
Hi, I just listed several of my sachets. I am running a sale through Mon, Nov 29. Here is the link to my sachet section:www.etsy.com/shop/StitchesbyJulia?ref=seller-platform-mcnav§ion_id=22793063 Thanks for your interest, Julia
Hi, You can get a free-motion foot for any machine. You do have to know whether your sewing machine has a high shank or a low shank. You can get the different models on Amazon or check with your sewing machine dealer. Thanks for watching, Julia
Hi Cindy, I'm still debating on price. I'm thinking around $6 or 3 for$15. They're quite small. If I make 3 with similar designs they go quickly. What do you think for price? Thanks for watching!
I agree with the $6 or 3/$15 ...I have a small bakery and I sell essential oils, bombs and such and these will make a nice addition to my winter projects...
Hi Charmaine, I like the Inktense pencils by Derwent. Here is a link to a set on Amazon-amzn.to/2CaiRoa. The color is an ink and is more permanent when activated than other pencils. I use a fabric medium to activate them instead of water. Here is a link to a fabric medium that I like-amzn.to/2Dz6pKy. Hope this helps! Julia
Hi, Here is the wikipedia definition: In visual art, mixed media is an artwork in which more than one medium or material has been employed. Assemblages and collages are two common examples of art using different media that will make use of different materials including cloth, paper, wood and found objects.

Hi Julia, very heartening to hear you admit to hoarding craft stuff (I do too). Loving your UA-cam vids!
I love these, they are beautiful. You are very creative.

I need to practice free motion stitching this way for sure!
Thank you for the 1/4 C tip too!!! 💜

These are beautiful. So inspiring. Do you use two pieces of batting for the lining?
Hi, I just use one layer of batting- behind the top layer. Thanks for watching.
love this ... thanks for sharing ;)
Thanks! Happy sewing, Julia

Hi Erin, I will have more made up soon. Had to order more lavender buds. Thanks so much for watching, Julia
I see a way to use up my doiley collection here!!!
Hi Chav, Yes! Doilies would work beautifully! Thanks for watching.
Do you wash all your fabrics first? For the paint to adhere? Also do you was your sweatshirts and dry them first
Hi Marcia, If the item that I am working on will be laundered repeatedly, I will wash my fabrics first. Very cute. What kind of sewing machine do you have? Never free motion. Is it hard to learn.
I have a Janome, but most machines can do the free motion technique. It takes practice but is really quite easy. I hope you give it a try, Julia
These are adorable! Thank you for sharing 😊 What other herbs could be used besides lavender?
Hi, My favorite combination is Rosemary and Lavender:)
stitchesbyjulia Thank you! 😊

I love this, I new to sewing. is there a universal free hand motion foot in can get ? I have a brothers sewing machine!
Hi, You can get a free-motion foot for any machine. You do have to know whether your sewing machine has a high shank or a low shank. You can get the different models on Amazon or check with your sewing machine dealer. Thanks for watching, Julia
Are they lavender seeds or little lavender buds the seeds would not smell would they. BTW love your videos👍👍👍
Hi Joy, Yes buds not seeds! So sorry I misspoke. Thanks so much for watching! Julia
How much would you sell those adorable sachets at the flea market or craft show Julia?
Hi Cindy, I'm still debating on price. I'm thinking around $6 or 3 for$15. They're quite small. If I make 3 with similar designs they go quickly. What do you think for price? Thanks for watching!
I agree with the $6 or 3/$15 ...I have a small bakery and I sell essential oils, bombs and such and these will make a nice addition to my winter projects...

I've learned in arts and crafts there are no booboo just artistic beauty 😅😅😅😅😅
So true!
Can I ask. What is mixed media please?
Hi, Here is the wikipedia definition: In visual art, mixed media is an artwork in which more than one medium or material has been employed. Assemblages and collages are two common examples of art using different media that will make use of different materials including cloth, paper, wood and found objects.
What size are these?
Hi. Approximately 2.5”x3.5”
Thanks.
Great little project but I feel like if you’re selling them, you’re cheating a little bit by using fiberfill instead of lavender flower buds.
I use 1/4 cup of lavender buds in each sachet. The fiberfill is used to keep the shape.
@@stitchesbyjulia I see
....too mutch fiberfill 🤔 hm
Hi Naty, The amount of fiberfill is up to the creator. You can also make these sachets without fiberfil. Thanks for watching. Julia
