    Happy to see another DDR4 RAM OC video. I am currently tightening timings (for daily use on a R7 3700X) on a Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Gray Dual Rank 2x16GB kit (XMP 3200 16-18-18-36-72 1.35V) on a X570 Aorus Master V1.0.
    That kit has Micron 8Gb E-Die (D9VPP).
    Am on 3800 with FCLK 1900 right now, found something stable (I think/hope, passed 3 cycles TM5 extreme and 2000% HCI Memtest).
    Still learning so much new stuff, will check ProcOdt 40 out, currently on 36.9.
    To cheap for Kharu (try to sell me this software), so I'm running TM5 extreme and HCI Memtest (Pro, which I found somewhere) and sometimes OCCT/ Prime95.
    Never touched Linpack Extreme or YCruncher, will look at those sometime.
    Will prolly do a r/overclocking post some time to ask for advice on some timings and maybe Rtt/ drive strengths/ setup times.
    Currently testing tRC 70, will HCI Memtest run overnight.
    Overview of my current timings (that are prolly interesting? I don't want write all of them here so I chose the interesting ones I think, if some other should always be mentioned, tell me, won't write on voltages right now, to annoying):
    tCL 16, tRCDWR 8, tRCDRD 19, tRP 12, tRAS 21, tRC 70, tFAW 16, tCWL 14, tRFC 589 (310 ns)

    I also had read the same things about bclk potentially messing up NVME drives. Some people say it's fine unless you go past 103, others say fine up to 106. I've seen some people say it only affects certain NVME drives as well.
    That said, I haven't seen anyone actually test/prove it happens, or at what point it happens. It seems almost like a bit of superstition to me (with a small extent of validity under some circumstances, perhaps). It would be nice to see someone actually test it. The main theorised risk is apparently data corruption; although I have read some claiming actual physical damage as well (which seems unlikely).

    • @ShimejiiGaming
      @ShimejiiGaming 4 місяці тому

      Its not superstition, its been shown often enough to cause issues. You just are ignoring it and saying they dont exist. Ive seen this argument so many times by people that have no idea what they are talking about but theyve "read it somewhere" and thats all you wanted to see.
      BLCK OC is known for Corruption, Instability, and overall just short term gains for long term issues. Its not meant for 24/7 OC, its meant for VERY short term benchmark oc to get leaderboard numbers. Thats what they usually dont tell you. Its meant to do for a few benchmark runs just to see what the system is capable to do, not long term.

    • @whitemoses7913
      @whitemoses7913 4 місяці тому +1

      Instability to the Pcie subsystems do happen that's for sure, especially the south bridge devices. Physical damage though, perhaps not... 103-104 clock is where the instability kicks in on a moderate quality board, and yes I think the board quality matters, that's why the variation in reports.... Not much testing because, not much interest from people overall probably... Bclk only matters in cases like this where the multiplier is locked and it sure does cause some headache so... 🤏

    • @BeardedFrog
      @BeardedFrog 4 місяці тому +1

      @@whitemoses7913 Aye. My stupid Carbon Wifi X670E doesn't allow for eclk adjustment so I do run a pinch of blck adjustment on my 7800X3D (only 101mhz). Somewhat unsurprisingly I havent had issues at that minor bump, but regardless it does worry me a tad still.
      Apparently Intel does not have any issues raising bclk either, since it's more decoupled. Perhaps the only advantage they have currently (if you can even really count that as one).
      Still think it would be nice if someone would be a guinea pig and test this. Even if it can change board to board somewhat, like many things there could still be a conclusive safe zone outside of guesses. Not to mention plenty of people such as buildzoid have multiple boards and platforms they could test it on.
      I don't think it's entirely irrelevant/niche of a concern given how dominant AMD is right now, and with the way they "OC". Especially with many boards lacking an eclk option, and heavily locked otherwise X3D chips being the popular choice.

    Hello, I wanted to ask a question if you have any idea what could be causing this.
    I have 4 sticks if ram 1r 6400 32 38 38.72 32 gb for 2 dimms. I managed to run them stable at 5200 2000 infinity clock, then I saw a video about trying to push them a little further, so I manually changed some settings and put voltages at 1.3 for the MCC, and 1.4 for the rest aside one that was auto selected at 1.8, I find it hard to believe that 1.3 and 1.4 volts could have damaged the modules after a few minutes of usage.
    It didn't work. But now it no longer runs stable at the previously stable 5200 2000. Just what the hell happened here?? Windows boots up but then I get errors and blue screens or it just straight up reboots on its own. I literally ran this previously stable setting for 30 min on v cruncher test 18.

    Hi!
    Have you tried 1866 at 101.25 - 101.3125 ?
    I have 3600cl14 2x16 b-die kit and 5800x3d. Basically I have similar FCLK "hole" though little below, around 1895-1910 and fclk 1900@100 always ends up with POST "07". Yours seems to be a little above 1900 if it managed to boot
    I also have two m.2's on my b550 board, but they're not the issue with 102.8+ bclk, rather the GPU is, which failed to initialize.
    So far, I settled with 14-15-14-29-44 GDM @1866 and 101.25 / 101.3125 ref clock, Vdimm 1.488V

    You have to try your luck with 5800X3D to get 3800@1900 MHz (BOX one for better binning, not OEM one). On my X570 (Dark Hero) i can run it, but no luck (so far) with BCLK:
    100,1875 MHz = One F9 Post Code (but got boot in Windows)
    100,3125 MHz = One F9 Post Code (same, got boot in Windows)
    100,3750 MHz = One F9 Post Code and Crash in Windows
    If i start add tiny positive VCore voltage - got more F9 Post Codes with BIOS freeze or straight thgree F9 Post Codes and have to clear CMOS.
    Also, i was able to boot in Windows with 3866@1933 MHz, 1,15625V for VSOC and 1,48V VDIMM (alternative is 1,21875 VSOC and same VDIMM). This settings for some reason didn't trigger F9 Post Code. Not WHEA free sadly. Have to revert back and check files on errors with DISM and SFC.
    But 3800@1900 MHz (with CL16) work fine. No WHEA errors, and pass TestMem5 (2:45 hours).

    Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who had bad luck with fclk on AM4. My 5900X would never go over 1900 either, no matter what I tried.
    When I switched to AM5/7800X3D I was pretty happy to finally win some AMD silicon lottery, as mine will do 2200+ all day long, whilst doing -30 to -35 curve, 101 bclk (stupid carbon wifi doesn't have eclk), and ddr6464 uclk=memclock (28-34-30-30-60 power down/gear down disabled).
    I could probably push things more but it's such a pain to fiddle with AM5 platform with the extremely long boot times, and this msi x670e carbon wifi has such a terribly glitchy BIOS as well. Really thinking about switching boards. Never going MSI again. Especially considering if I open a support ticket detailing an obvious recreatable glitch with their BIOS, they just tell me overclocking isn't supported no matter what it is. Ridiculous.

    • @atirta777
      @atirta777 4 місяці тому +1

      Can I genuinely ask how it glitches and how glitchy in general is the BIOS for you? My Tomahawk BIOS has gotten a lot better recently and definitely beats my past Gigabyte experiences, so just curious.

    • @BeardedFrog
      @BeardedFrog 4 місяці тому +1

      @@atirta777 Well for a time, I couldn't even set a manual dram voltage. If I set anything other than bios default auto or the automatic voltage bump from the EXPO profile it would not post. Even if I set a manual voltage that was exactly the same as the EXPO profile voltage. Literally any manual change higher or lower or the same, with EXPO on or even default settings, It would immediately go to an "A6" or "Ab" post code upon reboot (not sure if it was a 6 or a b).
      I detailed this in a support ticket to MSI and they told me that "We don't support overclocking." They also tried to blame my ram for not being on QVL (when it actually is, they just tested the non-RGB variant). Obviously this was a straight bug with the BIOS and they wouldn't even acknowledge it.
      Luckily that randomly got fixed in a very recent BIOS update.
      Then there's the bug with High Voltage Mode. It will work, and you can set voltages higher than 1.435, but every time you re-enter the BIOS it turns itself back off. So if you don't turn it back on any time you go back in there for something it will unset itself. It even recognizes it as a change every time.
      Then there's the fact that it straight up doesn't even acknowledge changes to AMD nitro settings. You can change them, but when you go to save and exit, it doesn't acknowledge you changed anything, and thus doesn't save them.
      Or how about the simple fact that the MSI Carbon Wifi X670E is their third most expensive board (only the godlike and the ACE cost more), and yet it doesn't have ECLK adjustment. Apparently you have to drop over a grand for the godlike or like $800 for the ACE to get ECLK adjustment option while so many other cheaper boards from other manufacturers offer this.
      I also hate how the first PCIE slot is lower than normal in the design layout of the board, as it made me have to rig in my own anti-sag support system for my 4090, but that's more of a personal issue/oversight on my part.

    • @atirta777
      @atirta777 4 місяці тому

      @@BeardedFrog Oh yeah I can definitely see how MSI's "support" is a joke. But not a single of these problems have I experienced even with fiddling a LOT with all of the same settings. Makes me wonder, do the experiences actually vary THIS much between different board models despite BIOSes being technically the same? Cuz this B650 Tomahawk has been the board with the least problems for me to date. Only 2 things I encountered on a BIOS from 6 months ago were: 1. FCLK applied from AMD CBS reset to Auto EVERY time when visiting the BIOS. 2. Auto voltages such as VDDP, SOC, etc. were COMPLETELY different each boot after simply changing a RAM timing or something. Both of these been fixed by now and somewhy never had none of the Nitro or voltage problems you mentioned. Board design faults are preferences though ig.

    • @BeardedFrog
      @BeardedFrog 4 місяці тому

      @@atirta777 Not sure. but I can confirm from other owners of the Carbon WIFI that these issues were not unique to me/my setup. There will be differences between boards for sure. I have a friend who has a Tomahawk X670E board and he had issues as well, that I hadn't encountered with the Carbon Wifi. He doesn't tweak/OC like me though so dunno if he would have encountered a lot of the same exact issues I have had.
      There are more issues than I list as well. I know some people have had a heck of a time with it not recognizing their nvme drives consistently as well. I haven't encountered that myself though.
      I went MSI this time around because I didn't like how Asus handled the SOC situation. I regret that now.
      Not to mention MSI seems to have no idea what the FRIGGIN point of OC profiles are.
      You can make OC profiles. You can even backup OC profiles to a USB disk.
      Update the BIOS? All settings reset. All PROFILES reset. Try to restore from USB backup? Nope, it'll tell you it was made on a prior version and won't let you.
      EVERY TIME I update my BIOS I have to jot down or screenshot with my phone all my settings to manually put them all in again. Dumbest thing ever. This is 90% of he reason profiles exist.

    • @atirta777
      @atirta777 4 місяці тому

Currently have a B450 Asrock board coming for trying fun AM4 stuff :D. The OC profile thing I don't see as a problem for myself cuz I like to build everything from the ground up with each BIOS version cuz the functionality of AM5 BIOSes changes so much every update. That's still probably a huge drawback for most OC people, but not for me. Will probably try some other brand anyway when B750/B850 drops
