This video was terrific! I’ve owned two Logitech Z3 systems for a number of years, and I just bought another on eBay. One set for master bedroom TV, one for basement PC, and the third for my garage PC. I had no idea until now that the sub was not a real 8” driver nor that the satellite port is fake. I’m even more impressed with the sound now that I know how rather cheap the components are. Very clever design!
A passive radiator system makes same bass performance of a ported one but 30% smaller average on enclosure size . The passive radiator must at least displace double the amount of air compare to the main woofer it s the reason why it s so much bigger than the internal woofer. For ex a 12 inch woofer could be asoociate with a 15 inch passive radiator . The only disadvantage is the cost compare to ported
That was my second Soundsystem, i loved it, amazing outcoming sound from this litte Cube, superb build quality, alot metal parts. Thanks for disassemble 🤘
Thanks for the tear-down. Love these kinds of videos. Logitech is doing some pretty clever stuff here. I don't feel like it's a rip off, because that design is a great way to get good bass at a desirable frequency, in a small space. But please, please, please get some plastic pry tools so that you don't do so much damage. That part is hard to watch. Thx again for sharing!
I have these same speakers in February 2023. I must have bought these 19 years ago so they are durable. However, I am going to finally replace them with Edifier R1700 BT. Bluetooth is the way to go in 2023. I think I paid $99 for this Logitec speaker system back around 2003.
I bought a sound system from a garage sale, and alongside the passive subwoofer he gave me the Z3 Subwoofer from this system (without the speakers or any other components). I was hoping that you might now of some way of using the 9-pin cable to adapt to an RCA active subwoofer cable, so that I could plug this into a different sound system?
I have this loudspeaker and it’s beautiful, but I’ve always wondered, if it’s not really a subwoofer, how this loudspeaker can produce so many bass, just crazy when I put 3/4 of the volume the bass are crazy, and if it’s not a subwoofer, What is it then?
If anyone wants to know, you can connect 4ohm speakers to this, so you can upgrade the subwoofer with a cheap car subwoofer and the satelites with fullrange car speakers. I did this and it sounds alot better now with a 12inch subwoofer :D, soon gonna use 6.5 inch cheap pioneer car speakers for the satelites. and then give it to my friends
@@Techscrews Thank you to for commenting, and yes it wil cost more than a better newer system in total iam just lucky that im into home and car audio so i have alot of spare part. Next to that most pc speaker systems such as logitech always use very bad satelite speakers that are to small, so upgrading the satelite speakers is always a good thing to do with almost every pc sound system there is. Most brands like logitech only focus on the quality of the subwoofer so its best to always upgrade the satelites that are in most cases to small, even the cheapest speaker you can find wil be better. It's important to use low wattage sensitve speakers for the satelites when upgrading because amps used in pc speakers wil almost always have very low wattage between 6watts and max 25 watts per channel, from testing i found out that its best to dont go over 45watts per speaker with this logitech z3e amp Also you wont need expensive speakers that display low bass(30hz) since the amplifier wil only give sound above 150hz for the satelites. (warning for beginners reading this: always match impedence/ ohms, this amp is 4ohm so you can use car speakers, but the more expensive logitech speakers often use 8ohm speakers so you wil need home audio speakers from atleast 8ohms (if you connect 4ohm speakers to an 8ohm amp they wil blow up) If you have an 8ohm computer sound system i suggest just buying cheap secondhand full range speakers that are atleast 5inch in size and match the amps wattage or not more than double of what the amplifier can supply. second hand old quality speakers 5/ 6.5inch or 8 inch full range speakers are often just 15/20 euros on secondhand websites In most cases this wil results in a wider soundstage plus better mids and high range (sorry for the long story) Goodday
I have had these speakers for 18 years and they still sound great. I'm thinking of opening up the satelites port and put dampening material inside the casing. Don't know if it will make much difference. Anyone tried it?
there's no point in doing that, in the meantime, you'd better earn some extra money and buy a better system or at least replace satelites speakers with better system.
maybe it not fake, but like in Magnat transpuls 1500 - "The woofer operates in a special bass reflex housing ( CRA = Controlled Reflex Alignment ). The dimensioning of the dampened bass reflex port has been designed in such a way as to combine the advantages of bass reflex and a closed housing. Goal: More precise, deeper bass with high efficiency."
this type of fake ports also can see on Z-2300 sattelites and other speakers. Check this video - there is also fake tweeters :( ua-cam.com/video/DYOxuZ4G-xg/v-deo.html

It’s a passive radiator design
It’s a great design because you can use small drivers to make the sub sound very powerful
Naja eigenlich ist es sogar ein schlaues Design da so die tiefen besser rausgefiltert werden durch die große Membran

Thanks for so detailed comment :)
that tiny subwoofer is a beast
Using them since 2005! ❤

good ol days when Logitech was making quality speakers
Exactly this system is awesome!
It's not a subwoofer it's a passive radiator and a 16 watt speaker
I Love Logitech subwoofers
I’m sure that’s a passive radiator
you are absolutely right :)
And they made an awesome sound from this tiny speakers, really loved these times when logitech made quality systems!❤

Nice video! This little sub is pretty good

This is not fake it is 6th order column with damper
wat. its just a series 6th order but they used a passive radiator and not a port. "column with damper" fkin wot
It still sounds decent but you will feel a bit screwed over as a owner of one of those speakers if you find out the sub in the front is fake lol
they use the same subwoofer build also z4 and z340.
@@ThatWasPrettyFunny its made to look like that's the subwoofer
Wow, still some Labtec inside, even if not as much as in the Z-340!
Your video's is soo beaufitul I subsribed to much quality video's
I have got this sub driver
I have it more than 15 years.
Hello, when I press the On button it no longer lights up, what could be causing this?

Fake bass reflex event for the satellite speakers :/
maybe it not fake, but like in Magnat transpuls 1500 - "The woofer operates in a special bass reflex housing ( CRA = Controlled Reflex Alignment ). you are right the ports on the satelites are fake, same scam as fake tweeters on the logitech z333
What an amplifier class there is
*hty class :(
Which one is more powerful Eacan E190 ii or Logitech z3e?
the Logitech, it also have better build quality and nice remote control for volume, you dont need subwoofer on table, to adjust sound.
I don't get there are these fake ports. I mean, why did logi do that? Just a flat enclosure would still look great.
this type of fake ports also can see on Z-2300 sattelites and other speakers. Check this video - there is also fake tweeters :( ua-cam.com/video/DYOxuZ4G-xg/v-deo.html
Help me my woofer plug connection it's all mess up i have to move the cable around to get sound what should I do 😞
this is typical z3e problem, just fix it with glue or mod it to another connector.
@@Techscrews thanks

Z4 is also a lie, the two small boxes too, show 3 speakers, but 2 are a lie!
