The more I learn about American politics and work culture, the less I view Americans moving here as immigrants and more as refugees.
I'm 51 y old swede and get 32 days of paid vacation every year! Luxury indeed 😊
I am 68 years and get a good pension every month from the gov. till the day I die....
When I started my employment I got 35 paid days per year. I called HR to tell them that they given me to many paid days and they just laughed and told me that when I pass 40 years I get that many. 😀
Wow
Is this genereral law or else you negotiated it somehow being unaware ?
@@mehmeterendesign It is negotiated within my line of work, however I didn't take note of that perk. I am quite satisfied with 30 paid days per year. At the moment I have 25 saved days that I have to use up somehow...
I am soooooo grateful to live in Sweden 🇸🇪 🙏
My belief is that the lack of strict hierachy have helped us tremendously here in Sweden.
Some companies also offer paid extra off-work hours. I was not informed about this when I started my current employment and after 3 years I was told "you HAVE TO use those hours". I had over 100 hours by that time that I didn't know about. :D
I am Chairman for the local Union at the company I work at. We have the same goal as the company - we want a successful profitable company, the difference is that the company gives back to shareholders holders and we, the union, negotiate to get our members a fair share of the earnings in the form of salary increase and improved benefits.
The Swedish model is means that instead of regulating the working market and workplace through laws, the parties (employers organisation and the unions) negotiate to find a solution and agree a collective bargaining agreement. While that agreement is in place workers can not strike.
Sweden have exceptionally few working days lost to strike which means we are amazing at keeping delivery schedules.
The next fight is for 4 day work week, in some municipalities its on trial. Think we will live (work) to see it come to fruition 😀
Federal employee over 40yo = 35 days per year. Don't forget the vacation law - employers have to offer you (and everyone else at your workplace) 4 consecutive weeks of off-time during June-August. Not enough staff? It's the law, hire more!
In all places I worked those laws were not enforced (by us the workers)
@@firemarbleTrue, there’s certain amount of flexibility but they have to grant you this if you request it.
You make me appreciate my country more, America sound so crazy for me to live in i could never.
And even crazier how Americans think we basically are Russia and afraid of our way of living.
Yes, we think money spent on education and kids as an investment in the future.
This is one of the reasons why I love this country
Don't forget that you can take paid sick leave also.
And pay leave to care for an unwell child.
Yep that's something that I like as well
You know the people has work hard to get to were we Are now,our grandparents had to fight, you know With the unienslaw from early 1900 ,so it help to work together,in the us a think everybody looks after themselfs, they do not get the taxis we have, but look at the different now in Amerika vs sweden( hope i make sens,i am from sweden, trying to right in englisch 😂
Pleas stop that noise pollution. It is soo disturbing. Thank you . Other wise i think you have too take a union corse to find lout more of your rights and dutu(?) . Keep up // RH
I like how Swedish employers respect your vacation days and don’t contact you.
i love it
It's a union law that when an employee has a vacation the employer is not allowed to contact the employee with a work related request during the employees vacation.
we tried to hire people in asian and america with swedish work conditions, they think it's a scam
That's just simply because there's a lot of that going on in America and in Asia so it's hard to believe what's real from what's not
11 hours rest between shifts is EU-law from january 1.
I'm not aware of the details and law but I got 2 days off-duty rest after my on-call week. Can't really complain :)
@@TheRealDr.Mabuse there are quite a few exceptions, depending on how different countries goverments decide to use the law. Most of EU's countries have - as an example - made exceptions for things like firebrigade, SOS-responders, etcetera.
It's not the employer who pay your leave, it's you. The employer holds a few % of your pay, and when your leave comes they give you back that money.
Actually every full time employee gets 12,2 months pay in Sweden and the 0,2 months pay is added typically on your July or June pay.
In many other countries they get an additional full month pay for the vacation effectively having 13 months pay per year
@@kronop8884they do? Thats new for me :) tell me more!
@@erikstenviken2652 Just look up “semestertillägg” which is something you get if your employer has signed a collective agreement with a union.. considering that around 90% the workers in Sweden are employed at companies that has a collective agreement in place (Tesla employees being one of few exceptions) one could argue that everyone not self employed or working in a small family business gets this benefit
Yep
2:14 and fwd. That has nothing to do with the unions, thats the law - Arbetstidslagen.
Oh... and how do you think it became law in the first place?
Âr du allvarlig! Då tycker jag synd om dig
@@SteamboatW >Of course they were heavily invested and involved in the process of legislation, I meant that it is law nowadays and you dont need to be a union member to have those rights. Clear?
@@perthyren601 Fint av dig. Får man fråga varför du tycker synd om mig?
@@user-mc8js1uj2p You don't have to be a Union member to work under the collective bargaining agreement either, but you wouldn't have neither without the union. That's the Swedish model. Employers and unions bargain, and the governement puts the laws in to solidify the foundational groundwork for the process while keeping out of it.
That's what built the Nordic countries from a impoveraged backwater into the rich countries we are.
And if you're not a member of your union, the next collective bargaining agreement will be weaker for you and all your colleagues.
So it has bloody everything to do with the unions.
U forgot to mention the 33% tax.
And what does the taxes gives you? Everything to be grateful of!
pretty much every european country have this.
11 timmars regeln kan man komma runt genom att ha mer än 1 arbetsgivare. och du behöver inte vara med i något fackförening för att de ska gälla.
You understand that you pay for everything you sad in this video truth taxes of different kinds in Sweden.
Of course we do, however when your early on in your career, (most likely time to have kids), you also have the hardest time affording unpaid leave. Later on, when the kids have grown up AND your earning more, you pay more in taxes to compensate.
(This is not completely accurate obviously, but I think that taxes doesn't only distribute money between rich and poor, but also across different parts of our lives.)
@@bjorn9875 Taxes only benefit this how juse them, those ho always pays get to do the work to and pay for others kids school food. much better whit low taxes so everybody is free to what they want and choose.
Tell em. 2paid weeks maybe after 5 straight years of working and ur azz best be on call even on your deathbed.
Yep we don't get that back in the States
