In the 2000’s the Yanks spent an avg of 42% more than the 2nd payroll team. In 2005 they spent 69.4% more that the #2 team. That would be equivalent of today’s Dodgers spending $525M on payroll.

They're actually not. The Dodgers aren't simply tossing money at players. If that was the case, they'd go after Juan Soto. They're choosing their spots. They see a need and are willing to spend money to fill that need. It's "Moneyball" when you have a billion dollars to spend.

Is it equally as funny that the only people who seem to rebuke the criticism just so happen to be Dodgers fans? The league isn’t as healthy as it was is the 90s and the dodgers exist in a situation that is totally independent from the financial realities of the rest of the league. To say it is their fault is inaccurate, but I can’t think of a time since the integration of free agency where there has been such a gap between the haves and the have nots.
The Yankees and Mets can compete for now, but what the hell do the Marlins do?

Teams didn’t wanna give it to him but all of a sudden Dodgers said ok we’ll give u a long term contract. Everyone is up and arms about it. There were plenty of times other Teams could have signed him but they didn’t...Also, Deffered contract is not exclusive to Dodgers. All MLB teams can do the same,. If the Dodgers account of it is true, it’s Ohtahni and his management team idea to defer his whole contract.
It’s Ohtahni that wanted it that way because he wanted the Dodgers to commit to spend on other players.
The Dodgers really ran into some good fortune here because Otahni is a marketing money maker who is now famous world wide that 700 million is an outright bargain for his rights.
………the big issue with other clubs offering players deferred money is that other players are not like Ohtahni who can make more money from marketing deals than their actual mlb contracts, so almost no one else is going to defer the percentage of their contract Otahni did.

Just a bunch of whining and copium for the simple fact that the Dodgers are the best and the rest of the teams have to suck it

Rich is so off base. Baseball still has more parody than any other major US sport. The Dodgers aren’t the problem, it’s only a problem for MLB when your team doesn’t make it attractive enough to play there deferring their salary. Who wouldn’t want to play for the Dodgers right now? When daddy Steinbrenner was running the show he did that.

These guys swear like the dodgers invented deferred money. Bobby Bonilla got that contract all those years ago. He said the Mets don’t do it lindor has 50 million deferred. The nationals deferred a whole lot of money with scherzer, Corbin, and Strasberg to win in 2019. The problem is there’s no salary floor and the small market teams don’t use any of the FREE money they get from luxury tax paying teams. The owners of the A’s made over 240 million and had a payroll of 60 million. He paid over a billion to get the stadium built in Vegas. Do you think players want to sign with a cheap franchise. Hell no everybody that goes to L.A. says they have the best player development and analytics departments in the game. I don’t think players want to make less money while the owners are raking in hundreds of millions

  • @jkid323
    @jkid323 3 години тому +1

Remember at one point the Padres had Tatis, Machado, Snell, Soto, and Hader and won nothing, lol. They decided to trade Soto and not sign snell and hader.
The Yankees had Cole, Judge, and Soto and won nothing, lol. What is stopping them from signing them? Nobody wanted Snell last year, but now the Dodgers have him and it's a PROBLEM!!!!!
Yankees, Mets, Boston, Orioles, or any other franchise that wants to win the World Series next year, you still have the opportunity to sign Soto, Burnes, Fried, and Adames. Cry to your billionaire owners who want to keep the money rather than spend it to win a championship.

The Dodgers Ownership knows how to make money. That's what they do !
They made over 100 million on Ohtani just this season ! So the 700 million isn't 💩 over 10 years.
If the rest of the league wants to catch up they got to invest & reinvest it's profits 100% back to the team.
Why don't the NY teams do this 🤔 they got the revenue Chicago has it too.
Players like Ohtani is a investment as well as a Money Printer on what you can make off him globally 🤔👍

Agree Rich. The Dodgers shouldn't do all they can to be the best team they can. They should deliberately not try so hard in consideration of the other teams, especially the ones owned by mega-rich owners who are happy to take the money given to them off of the Dodgers while they sign no stars even though they could.

  • @xiaobiaoxu5984

All of these possible because of Shohei Ohtani ... he is essentially playing free for Dodgers, in that Dodgers earned all his salary before putting them aside ... And he attracts great/good players to Dodgers. Mets/NYY will have to pay a prohibit amount of $ to get Soto (who is NOT as valuable in terms of win and bring in $). Dodgers is breaking MLB right now.

Ohtani is the economy now. There were more Japanese viewers during the World Series than entire U.S. Dodgers and MLB are cashing in on Ohtani. Remember, Ohtani played for the other Los Angeles team for 6 years.
Hat's off to the Dodgers for betting big and Ohtani also betting big on himself, volunteering to defer 68mil per year and now cashing in on the once a lifetime opportunity.
