Today's show is dedicated to the theme of "non-round" (form) watches. Tim and Brian each have selected three watches that reflect their tastes and passions for timepieces that eschew convention and round cases in equal measure. Watches discussed in this program include the following watch models and brands:
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Ultranero is 5mm thick, 40mm in diameter, and bears the king of complications: the toubillon regulator. This 2016 Baselworld novelty takes the 2014 Octo Finissimo Tourbillon and adds a diamond like carbon black coating to the titanium case. Its caliber BVL 268 is only 1.95mm thick yet it combines a flying tourbillon with a respectable 52-hour manual wind power reserve.
Watch buyers who fancy animated and lively dials will appreciate the F.P. Journe Vagabondage III in platinum. This 2017 limited edition of 69 pieces features a world-premiere combination of a jump hour and jumping seconds display. A power reserve indicator combines with a smoked sapphire to complete a distinctive yet unbranded dial. On the reverse side, an 18-karat rose gold hand wound caliber feature the expected F.P. Journe branding.
A Patek Philippe Gondolo 5200G-001 Day Date Eight Days always is likely to be the only one of its kind in the room. In an era when the steel Patek Nautilus has become ubiquitous and played out, the Gondolo 5200 is a refreshing blast from the past (the 1920s, to be exact). Its immaculately shaped and sized movement was created expressly for this art deco inspired white gold case. A practical eight-day power reserve and day-date display make this high horology option a surprisingly useful daily companion.
If you want to be different, but you hate to compromise, buy a Rolex Celini. And if you want to add character, go vintage. This 1975 Rolex Cellini 4015 is a vintage Rolex like few others. Its white gold case appears to be unpolished, the blue metallic dial is unmarred by years, and the lefty crown remains flush to the nine o'clock case flank. A rare example of manual wind Rolex Cellini reference 4015, this example is a standout among that rarefied company thanks to its superb condition.
Few watches are as proud to be different as the 2015 RJ Romain Jerome Subcraft By Alain Silberstein RJ.T.AU.SC.002.01. This black titanium jump-hour is a driver's watch with a jumping hour complication module built by Agenhor. French architect and watch designer Alain Silberstein brings star power to the model and renders his magic on the standard Romain Jerome Starcraft. The result is a watch with organic, flowing contours and grace rarely attributed to RJ Romain Jerome watches.
Few brands are as closely identified with the dress watch genre as Vacheron Constantin of Geneva. This Vacheron Constantin Malte Hand Wound 82230/000G-9185 in white gold captures Vacheron's pioneering wrist watches of the first quarter of the twentieth century; it was a time before round watches became the dominant style in the market. This white gold Malte includes the Geneva Hallmark on both its case and its manufacture caliber 4400. The caliber 4400 includes immaculate hand finishing encompassing perlage on the base plate, cotes de Geneve on the bridges, black polished screws, satin brushed wheels, and mirrored bevels on the edge of each bridge. It also packs a substantial 65-hour power reserve.

Great. Would love to see a show on asymmetrical watches. You got some of that with these non-round pieces. Asymmetry can can be found in dials and/or cases but it's very rare to find a watch that's asymmetrical across BOTH the X and Y axes.

Hello Brian and Tim, greetings from London. I have watched many From The Vault episodes and today I felt compelled to write in to say that this episode was truly exceptional. Many of the pieces presented speak to my aesthetic tastes. Particularly the Dubuis, Gondolo and Cellini. I also very much appreciated the episode looking at sub-40mm pieces. I feel it would be interesting to revisit these themes at a later date. Other ideas for episodes: I'm a big fan of Art Deco pieces; Unsung Heroes past and present; The top iconic piece that defines a House, past and present (only one piece allowed, this is a challenge); A collection of non-traditional dial colours; Obscure crowns, lugs and bezels collection; Obscure and unique bracelets/strap collection - the Cellini is a great example. Love the show, thanks for hosting it. ✌

Thank you Tim and Brian for taking up the suggestion. The selection of watches was great. I didn't expect a Cellini would be my favourite.
Another theme suggestion if you wouldn't mind : Only one watch per country.

I know I'd like to see some black lacquered dials, I've been looking for a really deep black dial dress watch to lust after.
Also I'm very impressed with Tim's restraint. He's surrounded by all these great watches, that I'm sure he can get a great deal on, yet he's had that daily watch for three years.

I like the theme show idea, my favs would have to be the PP and the Bulgari (although I'm still suspicious of anything that thin). The one non-round watch that was conspicously absent however, was a Reverso. Then I realized that you're saving that for a one watch model show... ;-). Good work guys and regarding the custom strap for the Romain (good idea ) check out Arron at Combat Straps in Montreal. Custom anything.
