  • Delivered in 1741, during the First Great Awakening, Jonathan Edwards' sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" is a profound example of Puritan theology and its emphasis on individual sinfulness and the wrath of God.
Edwards, a theological genius and a key figure in American religious history, employed vivid imagery and a powerful, persuasive style to convey the peril of sin and the necessity of personal conversion. The sermon vividly portrays the precarious state of humanity without God's grace, suspended over the fiery pits of hell, evoking a sense of urgent need for salvation through Jesus Christ.
"Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" is an important work, not only for its theological depth but also for its impact on the Great Awakening and its enduring influence. This sermon continues to remind the hearer of the weighty matters of sin, judgment, and the mercy of God.
“The wrath of God is like great waters that are dammed for the present; they increase more and more, and rise higher and higher, till an outlet is given; and the longer the stream is stopped, the more rapid and mighty is its course, when once it is let loose.”

This is the best version of that famous sermon for me! Good recitation.👍 I converted it to mp3 version and listen to it occasionally. We must insert the FEAR OF THE LORD into our hearts daily.
Proverbs 19:23 (KJV) The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

I agree! I wanted to listen to this but wasn't sure which one I wanted to listen to, so I played about 5 minutes of several of the top viewed versions and wasn't really all that impressed by it. Then came to this one and said yep!! This is the one!! Very good!!! The others just sounded like they were reading it. This one sounds like he's actually preaching it with boldness and with true feeling and emotion. If I didn't know better, I would have thought it was actually Jonathan Edwards himself preaching!! Excellent!!!
