About 14 humans died or left the island due to sickness since this video was made in 2015). On one day in 2018, three vet doctors and some volunteers worked together and neutered /spayed over 170 cats. They hope that they can better control the cat population so that it’s easier to evacuate with cats at a natural disaster. It looks like they are receiving help such as cat food from outside of the island as well.

Something like a sufficiently-sized hawk or owl wouldn't have a limited food supply here. Not to mention how there's the factor that we're discussing an island here, so the only other organisms that could play into the island's ecology would either be already endemic to the island, or wander over, such as by flight. But even that latter scenario depends on how far away this island is from other islands that could carry flight-capable species, such as various insects and birds.
