It’s better than XIII and XV hands down! Ivalice at least felt like a proper fantasy world with a really good lore you could escape in. XIII and XV’s worlds were terrible with very badly done lore. The combat in XII was also better than in those 2 games.
To be fair vaan was never supposed to be the main char. Balthier(or whatever he is called) was supposed to be the hero but the higher ups were like: ewww he is way too old!! Give us a juicy half naked boyy 😈
There's a spin-off sequel to this game for the DS, revenant wings, that has you summon creatures to fight for you. But you must chose what creatures you use ahead of time, getting more choices takes a while, you're usually fighting 7 vs 100 so strategical tower defense, the gambits are there but the enemy can often overpower or outnumber you so not being careful may kill you, and that's just surface level. The story fails to pretend that the main cast has development and the stakes are around a world and people we learn surface details about, at best. And yet I feel like the original game would ruin my childhood of playing the spinoff.
Finally finished watching the video, it was too late yesterday for me to finish it and I have to say while I still disagree with some of your points I do agree with the star wars comparisons being dumb as fuck, you explained that extremely well and that's what I love about you! You don't hold back and that's great!!!
8:09 Yeah... not using that gambit system is like gimping yourself. I played Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age for like 30 minutes, until you got to the first area where you fight... and I got bored. I didn't have the gambit system yet mind you... but it was annoying to always have to click to auto attack. Then I watched stuff about the gambit system... and thought "that's dumb"... and refunded it on steam, lol. But yeah, the last Final Fantasy game I played was 9. I started with 4, played that one and 6 on the Snes, later 7 on the PSX, 5 and 9.... skipping 9 which I didn't like after seeing the demo. Glad I skipped 8... no one talked about it after release...

The only Final Fantasy game I have finished. Because it was good? Lol no, because I stumbled on a GameFaq entry talking about the Zodiac Spear and how the only way to get it was to not open certain chests scattered through the world. Needless to say I started the game over, made it my mission to get that thing and, with the power of ZodiacSkull, finish the game. Instead of following the story I made my own journey. In order to liberate the people a generic white hero needed to rise to the occasion and become the Saintseiya Zodiac Warrior. Saddled with a strange Bunny girl and his best friend, both armed with Katanas, they went on a quest to save the world. Sooooo much better than whatever was happening on screen. By placing my own story and my own goals it made the game became so much more fun. This also made the world become more mysterious and worth going through and exploring. But without this, yeah, the game kinda sucks. PS2 version by the way..
I hated this game, I remember being excited for this game when I was a kid because I only saw the commercials, and the ff12 commercials were only showing the cgi scenes, so I had no knowledge of the gameplay. so being a huge ff fan, I went to gamestop and purchased the game. I quickly went home, inserted the disc into my ps2, watched the intro and when the first battle commenced, I was really confused and shocked. I was going into this game expecting the typical ff gameplay, like ffx or ff7, instead I get this slow boring mmorpg style gameplay and I despised it. I instantly regretted buying it and I was only like 10 minutes into the game. skip a few yrs later and I figured I'd give the game a 2nd chance not because I wanted to like it, but because it was the only ff game I owned and never beaten. so at first I really had a hard time beating this game because the grinding system sucked. unlike other ff games, you couldn't just beat some monsters and level up, cause for some odd reason you needed a butt load of exp to even gain 3 levels in this game. so I found this cheap tactic online where you can go this desert at the very beginning of the game, instant kill a monster by throwing a Phoenix at down at it and gain several levels in seconds. I repeated this process several times jumped all the way up to level 25 very early in the game. so by no surprise I breezed through the first half of the game, and had some struggle during the 2nd half but overall managed to beat the final boss and complete the game. During the ending credits I told myself I was never gonna play this game again, and to this day I stayed true to that promise. The only thing I enjoyed about ff12 was the music but of course ff never fails when it comes to music, but the characters and story imo were boring and forgettable.
It’s going to be very satisfying seeing somebody rip into ff12, it’s the most overrated jrpg series and it’s the weakest out of what I’ve played Awww, it would’ve been more satisfying if he ripped into the license board

It felt underwhelming after 10 which had a more impactful storyline and memorable characters. 12 is a self serious slog. It was made during this period where games were made to seem more edgy and serious like The Legends Of Spyro games but they generally wound up being silly and dull and felt soulless. It has practically no plot and primarily just involves running around dungeons. I may just not finish it.
i muuuuuch prefer the gambit system to the current action-y system prevalent in 15 and 7 remake. action rpg's fucking suck, the only series that works is legend of zelda, but that's just as much a platformer. Like A Dragon is the new Final Fantasy.
they just need to start to have a habit of new game+ on "hard" or "super hard" difficulty mode like the Tales series or some other games. FF series has always been easy to beat, which honestly I don't really like.
Final fantasy 9 best game in the series for my money. Its a must play. I could not stand Final Fantasy 10. The main character in 10 I thought was a right tit.
