Catch a Contractor: Adam Carolla's Experience as a Master Carpenter
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2024
- Host Adam Carolla tells us that he was always a better contractor than a comedian, but "comedy pays more." When he got into show business, he still applied his building background on his own house, with Jimmy Kimmel, and in his podcast studio.
New episodes of Catch a Contractor premiere after an all new episode of Bar Rescue, Sundays at 10/9c on Spike.

Adams the shit. And I've heard him talk for years about building, and I believe he's very knowledgable.
He told you to write this comment didn’t he lmao
His bit in how he got started on kroq about being a call in woodshed teacher named Mr burcham is the best shit ever
The way carrolla handles himself and the tools, tells you all you need to know about carollas master carpenter level. That's more funny than his jokes
Well, I know Adam from The Man Show and that’s about it. He’s just never been on my radar but that’s not to say I dislike him or anything. But some people seem dubious of his skills / credentials and I can pretty much put that to bed. My uncle used to live in CA before moving his family and his company to Texas. He’s an excellent Carpenter and landed a very lucrative contract a few years back for a reno job outside LA. The homeowner was, you guessed it, Adam Carrolla. My uncle doesn’t suffer fools and is a bear when it comes to incompetence. I guess Adam was quarterbacking the project and when my uncle says he knows his shit then to me that’s gospel. According to him Carolla was a really nice guy and had a firm handle on everything that happened on the job site. So honestly I don’t have a horse in the race but that’s what I was told by a source I trust 100%
I've been following Adam for years. He knows his shit. He talks about it all the time. Jimmy Kimmel actually hooked him up with his first gig on kroq. Adam would be a "call-in" guests, a high school woodshop teacher named Mr burcham. Best shit ever.
This is the best reality show concept since the Iraq war.
Adam is also a master baiter. Fishin' is his favorite thang.
Lmao it took 3 "master carpenters" to hang 1 single cupboard door. Yeah, THATS how you keep costs low and make a profit.
I first heard of this guy from Buzz Lightyear of Star Command were he played Commander Nebula back in the early 2000s.
Id rather just watch a comprehensive series of basics and then advanced informational videos with Adam rather than him "catching" bad contractors.
Master Carpenter is a term from way back. It was the title of the general contractor's owner. You can be a "journeyman" carpenter. I've been called a Master by some of my clients and I politely inform them that term isn't for me. I've spent my whole life doing Carpentry and made a comfortable living but I'll never know it all.
Yeah I believe that the terms “master” “journeyman” and “apprentice” are all semi-antiquated now. They come from a time when it was more of a craft, and everything was done custom by hand. Now they’ve been replaced with “contractor” “foreman” and “laborer” respectively, even though the definitions don’t fully line up. For instance, most modern contractors would have been considered journeymen back in the day.
@@Belenus3080 The unions are so corrupt too and the jobs are not given equally or based on skill level. i wanna learn to do custom work entirely under my own practice. i'm a welder and also work in apartment maintenance. i've been interested in carpentry but i would really only be interested in custom work and the craft side of the job like you described. too bad they're churning out cheap stuff like mcdonalds.
@@jvogler_art4708 you could try doing what some people call “smalls”. Basically small items, desks, tables picture frames, furniture etc. Those are a good side hustle for people who enjoy carpentry and have good tools and decent skills. Build a portfolio and clientele, advertise yourself, could be a decent little business.
It takes longer than 10 years in the construction/carpentry business to become a master carpenter, I don't care how fast you learn either. I've been building houses for over 25 years and I still don't consider myself a master carpenter.
Carpentry ain't rocket science. If you're not a master after 10 years you probably have an IQ of 85
@@boots911 anyone who says you can master carpentry in ten years is either low IQ or don't have much experience. Like I said I've been doing this shit for over 25 years and I learn something new all the time. I can build a house with the best of them from the footer up but I haven't mastered the craft. I already know from your comment you are not a master carpenter so move on and stfu.
i laugh every time someone calls themselves a "master carpenter", whatever the hell that means. the odds are they suck
Totally agree! Don't forget others that call themselves "experts." Now if their was a certification that would actually mean you could use master or expert, now that would be something.
rabidsquirrel73 Absolutely right. It's great when people comment on people they know nothing about... Adam is the real deal. Dude built all 3 of his houses and 2 warehouses. Armchair quarterbacks can fuck off.
gtarbmx Adam carolla does not suck at carpentry lol check out some of the shit he’s made... also, it’s about what you know in theory about the subject matter that makes you a master
I'm a master baiter lol
He said expert
I was a CFI certified Master carpet installer #2339. Retired now. When people pull the pronoun game I tell them to use my proper, earned title.
Carolla used to be kinda like funny and laid back and idk likeable. Now he looks like he's trying really hard to not look super POed all the time
+Brain Phelps i think that's' his schtick
Jeremiah Hays I listen to his show. Lately he's kind of gotten back to his more laid back good natured self and he's also funny as all get out. It may have something to do with him leaving that contractor show.
Im gonna need to see him do something other then hold a sawzall and point to a green plate to believe hes an "expert" or master carpenter. I know this comment has been made here alot and alot of you want to talk shit about anyone who brings it up. However, from a CARPENTERS point of view or any other full time professional tradesmen... claiming to be a master of your trade, especially after you've only done it for 10 years... is always a pretentious douchebaggish statement. There are so many different methods, techniques, materials, building codes, tools, types of construction etc. to ever be a master. You can be a carpenter your entire life and still learn something new all the time.
Would love to know Adam's credentials. Did he go to a trade school, go through an apprentice program, obtain official certification? Not from what I've heard. Is he even a licensed contractor?
yakadee most carpenters dont do any of that shit... they get a job with a company or just a dude. carry lumber around and do bitch work and work there way up from the bottom learning the trade as they go. not everything is ceremonial and official. not everyone is a union allocated coffee break having slow poke snooze bag that gets automatic raises for nothing every 6 months. Most carpenters, especially residential, WORK for there experience. Not get fancy pieces of paper that say theyre experienced
He’s licensed lol
Trade school is only good for technical jobs like hvac and auto mechanics. It don't mean jack shit for carpentry.
Yikes. These guys (the show creators) went off the air because they hired unlicensed contractors themselves and caused a massive sewage (from an open pipe !!) buildup that destroyed the house. Worse still they didn’t help fix it, and when sued got off because the homeowner signed a waiver. Scum themselves
I heard they got sued a couple of times
@@dominickjustave3558 they did. It was obviously a garbage show...one thing I noticed was "why do the contractors keep coming back?" Then I found out away from camera they pay them $10,000 to be the comeback...and be the scapegoat.
@@johnspence8141 dam I always wondered what happened. I really enjoyed the show and was hoping it kept going. Come on they would've been in season 10 by now and with the amount of shotty contractors out there, they would never run out of content
That dude ain't a fucking carpenter.
When he’s put on the spot he’s not so savvy... Everything is in the plans. So idk what the big deal is. I honestly doubt his competence. But then again that’s why he has his little partner. And that’s why it’s a tv show.
Bob Villa thought he was good, but I never saw him do any work. Adam is the same.
Look harder, he built his old home in hollywood that recently sold for millions. Look it up online it's beautiful.
apachedisco lol I love when people say “I built my house” hiring people to build your house doesn’t mean you physically built your house lol
Yeah,he probably hired crews and were probably Hispanic workers 🤣
@@jcismybud he quarterbacked the job and made sure shit was done right come on now. No shit he's not going to put up every stud and screw in every screw
@@jayramirez1884 no shit he did. They're the best workers
show is so corny
Adam failed as a carpenter, failed as a comedian, and his show failed plus he doesn't even know what he's taking about
Why can't they ever show him building something instead of those 5 second clips with him holding a tool? Its pathetic. I won't believe he's a carpenter until I see him do some work and not just run his mouth.
Yikes. These guys (the show creators) went off the air because they hired unlicensed contractors themselves and caused a massive sewage (from an open pipe !!) buildup that destroyed the house.
