Pure Magick; spelled like Crowley & Page...Absolute wizardry! Thank you so much for all these Zep lessons so articulately explained! Super appreciated.
I've yet to play a double-neck guitar. But, I love A-Z Led Zeppelin! No matter what song I always learn takes me more than a few practices just to get an intro down; thank you & I'll keep practicing.
Great job 12...I was lucky enuff to see this live in 74 or75..same show as the movie a few days later in N.Y...I will never forget the very trebley sound he had ..it was so rich...Thanks again...Dave
Do people really gripe about Jimmy Page's alternate tuning?! It's the only way if they're REALLY Jimmy Page fans with a thirst for the intricacies of his playing right?? Boy I can hear it now. The more you figure out how to tune the strings properly on this instrument the better your ears become too This guy (who's name is unknown) doesn't want any attention whatsoever and teaches a ton of songs brilliantly. You are a great teacher 12 foot chain. And Talk Away too. It's the little things I want to keep learning about🎸thanks for this lesson! I'm on day 2 or 3. And it's amazing I was intimidated so I kept putting it off. Already past the first couple chapters. I'm hooked
Also, strangely...I had been looking for a particular music documentary this morning about Zappa and Capt. Beefheart among others called "From Straight To Bizzarre", and found it on trebleclef's channel who, coincidentally, had an acoustic version of The Rain Song's mid section I have borrowed for a few years..so had the song in my mind and two minutes later see your lesson...Weird, eh?
Thank You Doug, wish you'd have posted this 3 years ago.😉 It took me the better part of a week to figure out how to play this song! I did upload my attempt, I'm pretty sure watching your lesson will allow me to tighten up my cover of this song, Thank You.
My name is Rod the way you explain that and the way that you made those cards sound and the tuning of the guitar detecting. I have tried to play that song, but I have never gotten what I needed to get from you tonight if I had the money. I’m out of work right now if I had the money, I would definitelysponsor this
Strange you remind me of someone i knew when i was a kid who played guitar 🎸 Always loved the guitar when i was kid too. Got one on my birthday from Toys R Us around age 7. I was too young though. My mother let me return it for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Technodrone toy i wanted so bad also, but really wish i was more patient and kept it, because im 41 now and purchased a Les Paul like Jimmy Page's started 2 and half years ago, and ive got a everyday routine, n its my passion now. If ONLY I stuck with it at age 7! Everything for a reason i suppose. Anyways thanks again.
My solution for tuning guitars: Buy 50+ guitars and tune them to different tunings ...DUH! I actually love open tunings ...I wish when I was a wee lad, that someone would have explained this to me. Your channel is awesome! Thank you.
So cool, thanks for doing this! Tune, hit the first chord and it seems like magic coming from the guitar. In the Jimmy Page Anthology book it shows the live tuning which is a step up, easier to re-tune the guitar, E-A-D-A-D-E vs the studio version, D-G-C-G-C-D
Really enjoyed your tutorial. Very easy to follow, notes and chords seem right on, and you break up the song nicely in order to examine and teach each of the parts of the song. IMHO this is one of Jimmy's greatest songs - and he has written more than a few. Will check out more of your videos. Thanx
And there was much rejoicing - yay!! Your gabbing is just enough to get ideas across anyway. This on 12 string would be a nightmare tuning, six string, not so bad. Standard shapes with different sounds happening, always a jolt, but the reward is putting it all together. Wayyy!!
I had a Gibson EDS 1275 bought it new in late 80s $ 1500. Cherry Had quite a collection But have been always a Bassist first I learned lead guitar and played lead in bands but nowhere as great as you. The alternate tuning is a must and why it is necessary to have more than one guitar , inaddition to other sounds from different pups . Guitar playing got cut short from disability but playing bass has changed for me with what M.S. did where now all I have to do is basically listen to the song. Sorry this is long I Think Your Teaching is EXCELLENT, DEFINITELY SHOWS HOW LONG YOU BEEN PLAYING , To Be Teaching All these Classic Rock Songs and to be incredibly accurate on them.
I have been away from music for greater than 35 years. I was having the worst time trying to find a path then I remembered this Iconic and Master Composition. So i put down the electrics got the old acoustics refreted dusted off the book and it is the Best Medicine. i leave one Acoustic in this tuning for discovering pathways that are NOT rain song. Ie you can play the guitar or play.
I own a 76 Martin D-28 i bought when I was 20 Cry me a river that 70'"s Martins weren't great Neck reset done extremely well, all new frets bone nut saddle pins AWESOME instrument And I'll tune it any way I want and not be worried I did it for 45 years
i'm going to get to play this song...but not just yet today...but thanks for the lesson...cheers... and yes i've got a few guitars...so the tuning is NOT the issue.....😅
Thank you for this lesson - it's very well done. My 24" scale neck became very floppy when I tuned down. Anyone else have this problem? Perhaps I will try again with a larger scale guitar.
If I remember correctly Page said in an interview years ago he used the tuning of EADADE (I think this was the tuning he used for the live TSRTS version). A lot quicker than tuning al 6 strings.
Hey, you have one fundamental voicing incorrect. at 4:23 he plays the 8th fret on the A string not on the G string. You have it in the wrong octave. If you try it and listen to the difference it sounds much better. The G string is open in that chord.
In all my long years of playing (since 1969) not once have I ever had a problem tuning and re-tuning. I love different tunings. Is that really a thing for some people?
I have my Epiphone acoustic that stays in DGCGCD. Gives me an excuse for more guitars. My Gibson will stay in standard but have a cheaper LP ( Epiphone) in DADGAD and other tunings!
The rain song was inspired by George Harrison from the Beatles! George complained Zeppelin had no ballads. The first 2 chords are from the Beatles song "Something". I find it strange to you yourself didn't bring this up being a Beatles fan! Before the song was released Harrison had first listened and was greatly approved. ❤
Surely you need on screen TABS running to illustrate those chords that resemble each other --while you play --ie shape one and two as you suggest!___@!)10 : 05 ----?
If you are performing, retuning seems to take forever, especially for the audience. It's also rough on strings. And some guitars are more stable and handle tension changes better than others. The best thing, IMHO, is to have a guitar for every tuning.
@@mikelundquist4596 I get that, but I have been playing gigs for years when I had little money at the start and still had 2 guitars - one was a Tele typically in Open G ready and other in std. I get it - I have used C tuning and all the others, but if you are wanting to nail the sound - you gotta do it.
Your explanation of crucial parts is painfully lacking. The waterfall section for example is skimmed right over. Tell us what string and what frets!!!! Ffs.
@@12footchain I see that, and it was helpful for most other parts. But trouble is, it goes by at lightning speed and has no other explanation or going over it more than that. I had to slow down to .25 speed to finally get it down. Appreciate your hard work, just trying to make your lessons more thorough for the future!
'and there was much rejoicing' cracked me up. Great lessons for fantastic songs, and a Monty Python reference? Gold, Jerry!
This song was the one that got me back into playing after I had set it aside for a long time. It was a huge confidence builder.
Once again no one can come close to Zeppelin and never will. Thanks for all the classic rock guys!!!

Ha, love it Scott thanks. Would love to be the Bob Ross of guitar lessons. Happy little trees.
Love this song! I generally play it on my 12 string as it just sounds so beautiful. Great lesson!

Outtro to Rain Song is seriously the most beautiful chord progression ever written/recorded, imho.
Their mtv unplugged version with the orchestra is so good

Could be. I guess it's the same tuning intervals, just a step higher. Chord shapes would all be the same
Have you done For your life yet? Love that song.
No, but will for sure

It's called open page tuning. Or so I have read.
AND @ 8 :07 --those chords are not clear --tabs will help surely ?
Cheers,he throws the pick for the end fingerpicking riff…
Do you own those guitars?
Yes

Too much to remember
I got the first part down
Wait, there are people too lazy to tune? It takes two minutes.
