Wow! I didn t expect this, but great plan! You don't live to work, but work to live. Some people regret at the end of their lives having worked too much, never the opposite!
Your hard work certainly paid off, Paige! I've been following your channel since your University days, and your positivity always inspires me. Almost 20 years ago, I took the same sabbatical and it forever changed my life. That's also how I met my husband (although this wasn't part of the itinerary! ;) so who knows what other wonderful experiences lie ahead? Wishing you a wonderful time. I'm looking forward to watching your travel vlogs.
Paige-Long time viewer, have followed you since your time at Cambridge. I’m so excited for you and this great adventure you are about to experience. I greatly admired the dedication you showed to find a career after graduation but knew how demanding Actuary qualifications was going to be. And you were very successful. But I always thought it was a shame you didn’t take just a bit of a break-but 2020 was such a bizarre time I understood your choice. Takes a lot of courage to step away for this break (and says a lot about you that your management is giving you the time). Enjoy every moment of this break, I don’t think you will ever regret it. Can’t wait to see all that you do over the next 6 months!
can't wait for your next posts! I've been following u since day 1 at Cambridge and now I'm super excited about your travel! All the best for u! Have a great time! Greetings from Argentina
Hi Paige! From a fellow backpacker, congrats on taking such an incredible step towards making your dreams happen!!! You asked for advice, so here's mine. Very few people talk about travel burnout, but it's quite common when you start a long-term trip if you've only experienced short-term vacations. Give yourself permission to take breaks, to not do everything all the time. There'll be a lot of incredible things to explore and a lot of people who may seem like they are experiencing much more than you and making the most of their time there, but try and not compare yourself. Everyone has their own pace and rhythm while travelling, the most important thing for me was listening to my body and giving myself permission to rest, to reflect, to write and even to do mundane things that make you feel closer to your home. And that includes allowing yourself to discover that this is not what you want to do even if you had everything planned out and told everyone about it! Wish you the best of lucks and hope you find everything you were looking for in this trip 🥰
Paige, I am so excited and happy about your journey💓20s are one of the most important parts of our lives where we spend our time building our careers and making a path for the future but we often forget that we are working to lead a good life not living to simply work. I went through the same burnout myself and took a three-month break from everything and when I returned to my work, I was a totally refreshed and new person✨ So, I am really glad that you took this decision. You totally deserve this🥰and I am sure this will be the best adventure of your life❤ Good Luck and can't wait to join you through your vlogs😍🎀
Hey Paige! I think it's about time to drop a comment. I've been following you since your first year of cambridge when I was still in school, now I am in my 3rd semester of uni. You've always been a role model for me with your positivity and diligence. I feel happy for you coming so far and I wish you all the best for your travels and this new year! 🎉😘
Im so happy for you. You deserve this. I do solo trips all the time and it's so romantic and amazing. It helps to be more present when you travel when you dont have a companion to distract you and chat. It will be like the movie Eat, Pray Love. Watch it before your journey and all the best. Safe travels now
I am so happy for this exciting adventure you’re about to leave! I started watching your youtube videos back in the day when you joined Cambridge because I was also going through uni at that time, so watching new content in your chanel is great (I also still love studying videos but you know what I mean😂). I wish you the best for 2025 and all your travel and I am eager to see these new videos!! ❤
So excited for you! I have it in mind to take sabbatical leave at some point in the relatively near future. My mum died January 2024 so this year has been settling into a new job as well as doing all the “sadmin” we’ve had to do. It’s been so full on and I knew I would need a break once I’d got through it all ❤ hope you have the best time and I look forward to some inspirational travel content from you!
I'm so excited and Happy about you journey🎉 i've been following you since Cambridge time... I've never been able to leave for a journey like that After graduation! Go for me too❤️
lol why did i immediately think "south east asia and australia" straight away? All British people have seen of europe is hotel pools in Tenerife but they're quick to get across the globe to travel
Good for you! I've actually been saving up myself to travel. Sadly my work won't allow unpaid leave, but excited nonetheless. Sometimes we just have to travel the world. I'm going with Ultimate travels in Australia before venturing out myself on the west coast. During Black Friday they offer huge discounts.
Enjoy your holiday. A balanced approach to managing the work aspect too. More of an observation than a tip but I think everyone gets the travel wobbles. The omg why did I leave my comfy home and routine feeling at some point. Phone home, do something that brings comfort, breathe, take timeout out and listen to your instincts about people and places. If you don't like something about your travel plans or people change it! The organised travel support is a good way to ease into travelling. Remember you're still in charge of your travel experience and don't be shy about changing stuff to suit yourself like extending or shortening trips . Congratulations. In Australia it'll be hotter than you think - hydrate (have some electrolytes available too) and use sun protection like hats and sunscreen.
Paige, it is great that you are taking a break and travelling the world. It is very well-deserved since you worked hard for seven years first at University and at your Actuary job.
Enjoy! I recently went travelling for 3 months after I qualified as an ACA back in August/September. Best decision I made, you won't regret taking a sabbatical to travel.
Great Idea.6 months is no time at all measured against a lifetime of work. Living in Australia and having travelled several times in NZ, I am sure you will enjoy the experience. Alot of Britons do these tours. Don't forget to chat to a few Aussies and Kiwis along the way once you master their accents.
That's awesome to hear - I can't wait to see you explore my own home country New Zealand. I would say for summer time for Aus/NZ is Jan/Feb - March-May is Autumnish weather, otherwise can't wait to see the vlogs :)
After qualifying recently and studying for the last SO MANY years, this is such a good idea and well deserved. Make the most of it and enjoy the experience 😍🙌🏻🙌🏻.
I am quite a bit older than you but I absolutely love Australia and I have now been to Australia on 3 occasions the first being 20 years ago to Sydney where I stayed for 4 weeks with family but I have recently been to Adelaide and perth and would go back to Australia in a heartbeat
In your travels I hope you reflect on what brings meaning and purpose into life. What creates those moments so you can have more of them. What is love in the broadest sense and if love is ultimately rooted in God. Safe travels
Hello from Japan! I hope your journey will be fullfilling ! I’m also planning to take sabbatical leave next year for two years. I’m going to London where my wife currently lives , and study English, have job experience in finance/ accounting hopefully. I feel a bit nervous about stopping career but also excited about new experiences. South East Asian countries are beautiful and people are warm, so you’ll have great experiences! If you have time, I recommend visiting Japan as well! We have nice food, culture and nature. Satoshi
good decision! wish you the best time, how exciting! prioritize yourself over work, I can tell from live experiences that less than 6 months would be too short =P
I believe Holly Gabrielle has done a very similar (maybe even the same) trip in Australia, and has backpacked in Asia as well, so it might be helpful to check her videos out! 🥰
I'm taking my sabbatical from January 2025 to August 2025 too! Around 7 months! I'm 28 so spent the last 10 years in Uni and jobs, plus 2 years of covid god
OMG YAYYYY!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!! I just went to a solo trip for a month (an exchange program to practice English in Malta) and it honestly changed my life! It wasn't a long trip like yours (i couldn't stay longer bc of my job) but I'm sure you'll come back as a whole new person, just wait and see! I'm SO excited to watch your travel vlogs oh my!!! Lol I'm honestly so so happy for you, this is the right time for sure. Go girl!!!!! 🩷🩷🩷
This will be a wonderful experience for you! And 6 months away from work is no big deal in the span of a career as you said. After I finished my university degree and MBA (which I was doing while working) in the US I moved to London and traveled all over Europe. Some unforgettable memories from that time! I feel I gained a lot of confidence in myself in that time and learned how to handle things independently. Useful life skills!
A sabbatical sounds like a great plan. I'd recommend reaching out to someone called Sol Hyde. He's a new creator who is leading the space of people in their 20s taking time off work to focus on personal growth. I've been in the UK for 12 years, became a citizen in 2024 after also it feels 10 years of exams (school, uni and I also completed my tax exams at a Big 4 firm) before taking medical time off due to burnout and depression. Sol gave me the push to make the right choice and I have no regrets. Wishing you a great 6 months off travelling! Enjoy
OMG you are coming to Australia, been watching your video since i was 13!!! and now im a uni student in Sydney. You gonna love this city so much!!! cannot wait to watch your vlogs in Sydney, and wish i could see you in person!! your videos supported me so much.
I like my job too much to take a sabbatical and I feel if I did I would be letting the company down but instead to avoid burnout I've gone from working 5 days to 4 days
I finished university in June. After that I worked for 3 months and in September I went to New Zealand where I am currently at. All by myself. First time solo traveling and outside Europe. Jet lag is a thing, but once you are here it will be the time of your life! I recommend you to not plan too much in advance. Unfortunately 1 month is not so much for NZ. Consider staying longer here because you don't want to just rush through the touristic spots. I met so many people from all corners of the world. Most travelers in NZ are german, french and british. Talk to people! They are all friendly and you get easily in contact with anybody. Hostels are great, but some are expensive. Think about staying at campsites in a campervan too for some time. You will see much more if you have a car in NZ. And don't stay too long in cities. They are not a highlight here.
Wow congrats on taking the plunge, sounds amazing! Yes once I’ve started planning my trip 6 months really does not feel long enough to cram everything in! Thanks for all the tips. Very much looking forward to the NZ scenery.
Are you getting a house sitter to manage your property whilst away? Renting it out for 6 months your gone? You deserve a break. I'm looking forward to the vlogs!
So so so happy for you! Actually it made me a little tearful watching you being excited for this trip after all those years of studying! All the best x I've been following since the Cambridge days, love from Rome xxx
Wow, sounds amazing! I took a 6-month sabbatical in 2021, also from Jan to July and it helped me growth as a person so much! I couldn't travel that much due to covid lockdowns but I managed to move from mainland Europe to the UK and started my career in academia here in Cambridge and got a totally different (=better) perspective in life. So great decision and I hope you'll enjoy it immensively 🤍
Can probably find a friend to live there to at least cover the fixed utility costs. Or her parents and sister could use it for a change of scenery? Renting to a stranger would be a bit of a risk.
Lol this video just gave me an extra motivation to actually travel. I've been thinking and researching this for months now and looking at different cultures and where am most likely to fit in etc. I wanna travel solo as well but my biggest fear is just being a loner in a new place. Luckily for me I have a remote job that is really flexible in terms of working hours and honestly quite chilled so I can pretty much travel and work wherever I go. I wish you all the best on your travel Paige, enjoy and looking forward to the travel content!
They offer sabbaticals in my job and anybody of any age can take it and someone I know in their 40s took one a d if you ate older amd jad the stamina to travel then why not
Paige you’ve always been an idol to me especially cos I’m a fresh graduate who just started working in non life actuarial consulting! Since you have 3 months in SEA, do come to Singapore for a few days if you have the time!
OH NO YOULL BE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA DURING THE HOTTEST MONTHS 😂 GOOD LUCK!!! 😂 Im from SEA and I cant even take the heat. Im already worried for you 🥲 The heat is sure piercing thru the skin. 😭😭
I looove that you made this decision! Burnout IS real. This will be such an adventure for you and such an opportunity for growth! So so happy for you ❤
Don't let the idea of a 6 month sabbatical worry you. 6 months is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Women take 'breaks' from work to have babies all the time, for example. It shouldn't (in theory!) stunt career prospects.
Really exciting! Make sure you workout lots in advance so you don't get easily tired. Also looking for places to visit and pairing them to make the most of the day takes more time than it sounds. Plan your itinerary early :)
Also welcome to travel are such a fab company, I’m really excited to see your travels with them. For NZ would recommend taking warm clothes; it snowed when I was there in February in Queenstown. Have the best time :)
I travelled along the East Coast of Australia, also Sydney to Cairns, just last November in a campervan. Australia really is the most beautiful place I've ever been, the people are so nice, so many wildlife and beautiful places. Don't worry about if travelling will harm your career path, because it won't! Most companies will appreciate travelling and life experience over desk experience. Just a tip, for South East Asia, be mindful of what you eat on the streets, some places, like Indonesia (especially Bali) you can get really sick because of bacteria in the foods, but also on things like money. Packing diarrhea medicine and hand sanitizer is essential! Have fun on your trip! 😊
Love that you didn't quit your job! Being adventurous but still responsible is my fav duo!
Wow! I didn t expect this, but great plan! You don't live to work, but work to live. Some people regret at the end of their lives having worked too much, never the opposite!

So happy for you Paige!! This is really the best time in your life to do it and that’s really brave 🎉 you deserve it! Can’t wait for the travel vlogs!
Wow so exciting and so brave! Looking forward to the travel content.
What will happen with the house that you rent in Cambridge?
Sounds like such fun! Have a great time Paige, you deserve it
Yay !! 🎉 SO pleased you're coming to New Zealand
come to the Top of the South Island !!
Southeast Asia is so fun, you're going to love it.
In Australia it'll be hotter than you think - hydrate (have some electrolytes available too) and use sun protection like hats and sunscreen.
Paige, it is great that you are taking a break and travelling the world. It is very well-deserved since you worked hard for seven years first at University and at your Actuary job.
Enjoy it!
Yay!! Go have fun! You deserve it after working so hard for so many years
Enjoy!
I recently went travelling for 3 months after I qualified as an ACA back in August/September.
Best decision I made, you won't regret taking a sabbatical to travel.
Amazing! And congratulations on your recent qualification
Looking forward for your travel vlogs
Well done 🎉🎉 I'm in a similar situation and wondering about this too
That's so cool!! Have fun
^ a lot
Have fun travelling, Paige! 🩷

Thanks for your comment and all the best for your travels - London is an exciting city! Get yourself to some West End shows!

I believe Holly Gabrielle has done a very similar (maybe even the same) trip in Australia, and has backpacked in Asia as well, so it might be helpful to check her videos out! 🥰
You should do the kiwi experience bus in NZ! I absolutely loved it. Will you be renting out your house while you're gone?
I'm taking my sabbatical from January 2025 to August 2025 too! Around 7 months! I'm 28 so spent the last 10 years in Uni and jobs, plus 2 years of covid god

Travelling in an organised tour with other people isn’t travelling alone
What about the house?
Can probably find a friend to live there to at least cover the fixed utility costs. Or her parents and sister could use it for a change of scenery? Renting to a stranger would be a bit of a risk.
She probably makes enough from UA-cam to cover the mortgage payments plus spending on travel
Definitely an overdue and well-deserved break. Have fun 😊

Ahh so exciting, congrats on your grad job! 👏 and yes Singapore is definitely on the bucket list for this trip!
@@PaigeY Thank you 😊 Would be happy to give you any recommendations for your trip to Singapore

Technically you are not leaving your job - you are not click baiting us Paigey are you? LOL (only joking)
So excited for you Paige!! You really deserve it
Oh my word I’m SO ready for this next chapter for you. Congrats!
