    Pro tip: to check your reference tool (on a lathe w/ c axis), lock c axis, scribe line, rotate 180 degrees, scribe line. Half the difference between the 2 lines is the amount the tool is off-center.

      OD stick tools are oriented by slots cut in the turret. Some boring bar holders have no feature to orient the bar. By scribing a line with an OD tool you have a reference to orient the boring bar against.

    How accurate do you find the tool probe? I have a renishaw on my lathe and never use it because it doesn't account for the boring bar flex. I always find the first pass is off size. I end up taking a cut, measuring and adjusting the offset anyway.

    • @OctaneWorkholding
      @OctaneWorkholding  Рік тому

      Usually within .003" which is a good start.

    • @SheppHead
      @SheppHead Рік тому

      Keep cut sizes the same size on a silent bar to eliminate variable cut sizes.. don't be going from a mm a side to a .2 finish cut you'll have a nightmare

    How do you know your turning tool is on center?

    • @OctaneWorkholding
      @OctaneWorkholding  Рік тому +1

      If it doesn't leave a nub, chances are good that it is very close to perfect.

    • @Precisionmetalworks
      @Precisionmetalworks Рік тому

      Best way I've found is to scribe a line, then rotate c axis 180 degrees and rescribe line. If both lines line up, the tool is on center. If not, measure the distance between the lines and adjust your tool half this amount.

    • @joshuafeldman367
      @joshuafeldman367 Рік тому

      @Precisionmetalworks never heard of this method lol. My preferred way is to move your tool up .020 on Y then make a face cut then measure the tip then adjust for half. In my 20 yrs of lathe operation I have scene more ways than you can shake a stick at lol.

    No "hyah, click!" To mimic the torque wrench?
    Tsk tsk, points deducted, may your coolant be 32degrees freedom, just above slushy cold so your parts will be beautiful and chips will be meatly curled but your hands will be swollen and prone to easy cuts.
    But only for the first half of a shift, i am not seeking to punish a small infraction as if you had crashed the machine or similar.
    Ya gotta make the click sound cuz the universe knows that bolt is tight.
    Its especially important when no torque wrench is being employed, as the main function of said wrench is to click to inform the universe said fasteners are snuggled up properly tight.
    Helicoils
    122:56
    "He who hath not clicked the torque is saddled with the broken bolt or loose piece of stock. Never two uggas and a dugga neither crossthreaded is also loctite shall be admissible. Henceforth, mankind shall klick either by mouth or by tool, it is known"
    😂
