I’ve watched a lot of UA-cam videos and was never moved to subscribe to any of them until now. I throughly enjoy your commentary and I think you’re spot on on a lot of topics. I look forward to your future videos.
Thanks! I’m not here to sell you anything or tell you there’s a certain way to do things. I just want to bring some things to light for ppl to think about to get the most out of their OWN program. Things will get more exciting when we can get out on the water and film.
Completely agree with your comments. I have run meat on and off for the past few years, and have a considerable number of 10 - 12" fish flashers, meat heads, Vegan rigs, etc. I used to purchase and brine my own herring, and was never able to get Meat to be as successful as my other presentations. I picked up some MC Rocket artificial meat strips, and was just as successful as with real meat. Your thoughts on why meat can be deadly in certain situations, and that it is more likely to be based on presentation than "real" bait is very interesting.
Everyone has their own things that they have confidence in and that’s what makes it special. Just have to figure out what works for you and perfect it!
I fully agree with you about the scent of salted meat being foreign to the fish in the Great Lakes. I've been toying with the idea of catching a bunch of Alewife, cleaning out the guts, and then blitzing them in a food processor, and freezing in ziplock baggies to take out on the water, to use as a scent dip for my spoons and flies. Any thoughts on this? In my mind, it would have to smell like real Alewife, and probably mask my human scent?
All you have to do is pull it tight before it goes in the water and it’s gone. I personally do not have the room to store them all with noodles wrapped around them. It’s a good way to do it, but to each their own!
I personally have not used them so I can’t speak too much on it. But what I will say is everything else we use is fake and it works. I’m sure there is a learning curve with it to figure out how to tweak it to get the best results out of it like everything else. I’ve heard ppl say they didn’t like it compared to regular meat but I’m guessing they didn’t put in a lot of time to try different things with it.
That was one of the things I forgot to mention. I use size 1 or 2 depending on the brand. I like size 2 2x owners. The addya no cut offs I like the size 1 better.
What are your thoughts on single hooks? I’ve always tied my flies with gamagatsu 2x strong singles…like you said, if they get hooked they stay hooked, but are we missing a lot of strikes by not using trebles?
My opinion is exactly what you said. If they get hooked they stay hooked. But I do think there is more strikes that are missed because they don’t get hooked on the initial bite. Almost everything in salmon fishing has pros and cons. You just have to weigh them both and figure out what works best for you.
I hate meat fishing I have zero luck with it even when people around me are smacking them on meat . My boat is all spin doctors , e-chips , coyote , and Atomik flies , and spoons . I also run oldies like j-plugs , flasher and squid .
"I haven't been able to have a conversation with the fish yet." 🤣🤣🤣. You are amazing. I'm dying laughing. Yes sir 👏

Well I like your style…and you’ve got my attention.
Agree 110% on meat. Great videos. Nice job on your tournament wins.

I like to use some kind of glow in my flies or beads when I fish below 50'. Same goes with spoons and in early morning.

I wish someone made a video of downrigger for sea trout on the east coast.
I like it dude we think similar for sure!!
Great Video

Need to put piece of Pool Noodle on Flasher to wrap Fly around for storage. Get no kinks in line that way

Future show Idea how about going over your boat and how its set up.
Yep for sure. That’s on the list. Just been waiting until I can get out in the boat so I give a better visual of everything
@@mvpsportfishing If u ever want to fish out of MKE let me know
Good vid!! Sounds like you follow Russell
What are your thoughts on the “fake meat” strips?” It’s still in the same category, but less of a pain to work with. Thoughts?

What size hooks do you run for FF setups? If you are not running a tournament tied rig, do you upsize your treble?l
That was one of the things I forgot to mention. I use size 1 or 2 depending on the brand. I like size 2 2x owners. The addya no cut offs I like the size 1 better.
So....i am poor....give me advice...what one, or two flashers should i have and use ? For cohos and for chinook ?
Megatron and dragon slayer. For cohos Anything orange or bright colored.
When do you start running flasher fly?
I run flashers and flies every single day that I’m on the lake unless I’m brown trout fishing. If I’m salmon fishing I’ll have FF out

Tournament tie mine with size 1/0 addya hercules and a gamakatsu 4/0 octopus in front of it. I snell it no knots which are the weak point
