    Amazing process, Terry. I enjoyed learning about your company from Off Grid with Doug and Stacy.

    I came here from Doug & Stacy also. You invented this destemmer? Awesome And respectful of the berries- painted purple! I made low sugar elderberry jelly one summer it was delicious! Destemming took a lot longer the way I did it- lol...
    I sure wish your lovely destemmer made less noise- Do you all wear earplugs? Beautiful harvest- Natures abundance/kindness towards us humans never ceases to amaze me. I'm sure you give thanks everyday walking amongst your plants!

    I was hopping to find an easier way to separate the berries from the stems . Your video has given me some good ideas. I may try freezing the berries on the stem over night after soaking them in water to remove the bugs and some of the green berries and then shaking them loose. But this method will work fine or at least a little quicker .

    Do you have to change out the water every time you run and basket though the water before you can run the next basket though? Or you can get so many washes (#?) before you change out the water?

    I noticed a stem that went into the hopper at the bottom on your video. How do you get those out when you sell the berries? Even when you hand comb the berries, little stem sneaks in.

    are you freezing the elderberry clusters before processing them through this machine?

    • @DeniCaryPhillips

      Hi. The elderberries are processed through the destemmer, then sanitized, then frozen within 48 hours of picking. They remain frozen until they are 'juiced'.

    Wouldn't food grade peroxide be better, it's slightly cheaper too? Just asking...

      Hi. I need to figure out how to get notices on comments -- sorry for being late to reply. The answer is, we are following FDA regulations. They are very specific.

    For home use, do you have to sanitize the elderberry

      The dormant oil will kill any mites that may try to overwinter in the buds, so yes, we do recommend it.

    Do you sell your processed frozen elderberries to individuals? I am a chef who makes my own line of elderberry products.

      I'm sorry that I am only now seeing your request. I also do not know the answer to your question, but you may contact River Hills Harvest by email, info@riverhillsharvest.com, or if you want to talk to me, I'll check into it for you. It is harvest time, so it is a good time to find out more about the availability of frozen berries. 573-424-9693

    do you buy wild berries and do u have a cheaper way to de stemme the berries i'am a one man team and i can pick lot of them but takes for ever taken the steams off i have been selling to the MDC and keeping a few

    • @DeniCaryPhillips
      @DeniCaryPhillips 6 років тому +2

      Hi Bob. Most growers take their berries to a centralized destemmer owner, and pay them for destemming. I believe you'll be charged by the pound, and it will be a significant savings. You may also find that RHH will offer you a competitive price for your berries. You will need to contact Terry Durham to find out where the destemmer closest to you is, and how these services get lined up. Email info@riverhillsharvest.com with your question and someone will get back to you. Let them know you saw the video and tell 'em I sent you! Deni

      bobinmissouri If you go to the Growers tab at riverhillsharvest.com and click on it, there is a place to get more information. Look for the purple bar that says Growing Instructions. Click on that for a PDF. Also, we have a workshop in Jefferson City in June. Hover over the Grower tab and click on the workshop to see about that. We're happy to help in any way we can.
