Hey Johan. It was also 48 in Columbus, Ohio today. And breezy. Overcast. Felt really chilly!! As to Musala, it was named after the highest peak in Bulgaria.....the home country of the ship owner. 3rd ship with this name in their fleet. The previous ones are no longer.
Hello there Johan!! Sorry to hear you are having some cold weather. I agree she is massive. That superstructure just looks so much like a city building to me.
Hello Karen! I dont mind it, its just very unusual for this time of the year. Two days ago it was over 120'F and now we are freezing! Crazy times! Hope you are having a great day! 😁👍🏼
Wow, that is so high out of the water. It'll be interesting to see how low it is after it's loaded. It looks like a whale surfing through the canal. I guess it was a day for all kinds of surfing!
Jody, I really believe this is the tallest ship that I’ve seen out of the water. The body of the ship. Chuck told me it’s called freeboard. The ship was a giant out of the water.
I hope everything is going great and the Netherlands today for you my friend. I have to tell you, this ship really impressed me because of how big and tall it is. Plus it’s brand new.👍⛴️
On current market prices for wheat, cargo will be worth around USD 5 million! Also, note that the draught indicators are in metres, not feet and inches! Any idea of the engine power?
Pilots provide navigational and operational assistance .....especially with canal/harbor situations. Pilots are experts in local waters. They don't physically operate the ship. That is still done by the captain and crew. The Captain always has the last say on everything and is ultimately responsible for safe operation of the ship. Think of a pilot as being an advisor to the Captain.
So are the 2 different horn sounds coming from the vessel or is the 1st one coming from the vessel and the 2nd different sounding coming from the bridge? I don't get it.
The ship starts the salute and the bridge responds. There have been a few questions about the boat and bridge signal horns when the boats are entering and leaving the Port of Duluth. In most cases, once radio communication with the bridge has been established, use of the boat and bridge sound signals are not necessary and operation of the sound signals is left up to the captains. Often, boats will not use the loud horns after dark as a courtesy to city residents. So, most often when you hear the customary whistle/horn-blowing sequence of "long-short-short" it is a friendly salute to the Port of Duluth from the ship captain and is responded to by the lift bridge operator with the same sequence. The Master Salute is an upgraded more formal whistle/horn salute. That is “long-long-long-short-short.” While the famous sound may be a courtesy, it has long been part of the nautical tradition of this great inland sea port.
@@vibewithmike Ok, thanks for the information. At first i always thought both different horn sounds were from the vessel, then i got thinking? what would be the reason. So now i see the 2nd set of horn is from the bridge in response to the ship.
@@vibewithmike I wonder if the captain of a new ship cringes when those first scratches happen... like when you cringe at the first scratch on your car? LOLOLOL

Hi Mike, I create scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and I am currently updating Sky Harbor (KDYT) I have animated the lift bridge, and have a ship coming through and passing the airport, but it occurs to me that this may not be realistic. Can you give me any ideas as to where the various ship traffic goes once it has passed under the bridge? Many thanks.
This ship or should we called it boat according to great lake convention is likely to carry a load of grain to China. Sad part is with our relationship with China, she might not come to visit us again. PS it is always an amazing sight to see ships flying under different flags at the land locked twin ports.
I think we called this one a ship, I still call even the Great Lakes boats, ships, I do that because UA-cam will allow people to find these videos better by using the word ship. However, we know those Great lake vessels are called boats.
@@vibewithmike it's just counterintuitive. Ocean freighters have many reasons to sound like the PRT. But end up sounding like a Volkswagen. It's just disappointing.

Today is freezing cold on my end! Its nearly 48'F Its really window too and rainy! Musala almost sounds like masala which is a spice! Her bow has an odd shape! She is hugely tall! Thanks for sharing this video bro! Hope you have a great one!
Johan, this definitely is a top tier ship now moving forward for me. I can’t wait to see it again. Super powerful and new.👍⛴️🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
That is cold Chuck! Very interesting. I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing! 👌👌
Beautyfull 🛳️greetings from 👍🙋♂️🇱🇺
I hope everything is going great and the Netherlands today for you my friend. I have to tell you, this ship really impressed me because of how big and tall it is. Plus it’s brand new.👍⛴️
Hi Mike, getting cold here in western Pa,we have a freeze warning for tomorrow.
That cold is coming for all of us now. Those ships will be fun to watch in the snow.
On current market prices for wheat, cargo will be worth around USD 5 million! Also, note that the draught indicators are in metres, not feet and inches! Any idea of the engine power?
Paul, I couldn’t find the engine information. Great information about the value of the cargo! Very interesting!⛴️👍
great vidoes im from hamilton ontario canada
Look at this awesome city in Canada boat friends. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamilton,_Ontario
That was a close call
That crane was way up there from the ship
Winter is coming!
It’s definitely getting colder. I can’t wait to see some of these oceangoing ships come in with ice on them.!⛴️❄️
She is huuuuuge. Can only imagine what her main engine looks like.
Absolutely, it’s not as long as some of the ships on the great lakes, but it is very tall
A fantastic ship!!!! Now, does the pilot assist the captain in navigation, or does the pilot take over and sail the ship through the canal?
That is a fantastic question that I don’t know the answer to. If any boat friends know the answer, please let us know.⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️
Pilots provide navigational and operational assistance .....especially with canal/harbor situations. Pilots are experts in local waters. They don't physically operate the ship. That is still done by the captain and crew. The Captain always has the last say on everything and is ultimately responsible for safe operation of the ship. Think of a pilot as being an advisor to the Captain.
@@chuckg6039 thank you! I *knew* Mike or one of his friends would know for sure!
Chuck really knows his stuff with ships!!!!👍⛴️
Thanks Chuck!!!!👍⛴️
We surf here in Florida but it's in the 80's
80° now that sounds good for ship watching
@skydancerforever an absolutely great question that other people might be thinking as well. Thank you so much for asking.
Musala was only launched in June. IIRC this is her second voyage ever.
Paint looked very fresh and the vessel overall was super new besides those scratches from going through locks!⛴️
@@vibewithmike I wonder if the captain of a new ship cringes when those first scratches happen... like when you cringe at the first scratch on your car? LOLOLOL
@johnandrews3568 I wonder if they have a big can of touch up paint? And then you would need a mop to touch it up!😂😂😂😂⛴️⛴️⛴️⛴️🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨
Where is this? Iowa?
This is in Duluth, Minnesota. I hope you subscribe and come back to my channel to watch more ship videos moving forward. It’s all about having fun with the ships!👍👍👍⛴️⛴️⛴️
❤👍
I always appreciate getting a comment from you Minnesota news now! Thank you so much for watching the ship!⛴️
You going up with bridge
I’m staying on the ground
Hi Mike, I create scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and I am currently updating Sky Harbor (KDYT) I have animated the lift bridge, and have a ship coming through and passing the airport, but it occurs to me that this may not be realistic. Can you give me any ideas as to where the various ship traffic goes once it has passed under the bridge?
Many thanks.
Absolutely friend. This video should help you out a lot. Tell me what you think. m.ua-cam.com/video/jcL08yL1pns/v-deo.html

You storm chaser. What’s your fave weather app?
😂 If the storm comes to Duluth I sometimes record but I’ll never chase a storm. I enjoy the MyRadar app.
I use the same app.
@terencegillespie6675 👍⛴️
I like the Windy app for waves and winds on the Great Lakes
-1 and snow about 10cm of snow here in Fredericton New Brunswick
We are going to have snow moving forward with the ships
@vibewithmike that would be awesome too see the snow falling around the ships arriving in Duluth
@bobjohnston5527 it would’ve been cool to see snow with this ship
@vibewithmike It's sure would've been cool. It can happen in the next few days. November 1st on Wednesday
It was snowing in Duluth a few minutes ago. Only light flurries I was told. I’m not up there right now.
At least it won't be stuck with the Seaway strike over.
You’re exactly right. The ship will be moving again on the St. Lawrence. globalnews.ca/news/10057814/st-lawrence-seaway-strike-ends/
Going to take quite awhile to clear out the backlog from both directions!
@chuckg6039 a person would definitely have to make Way for this ship
Hi Mike. Trick or treat. Or how do you say on Halloween? Cheers buddy : - )
That’s exactly how we say it. I think I’m going to dress up as a ship this year.⛴️⛴️😂😂😂
Hahahahaa. Geil : - ) Nearly midnight. So last drink and good night. @@vibewithmike
@michaelborgelt1600 have a great night and thanks for watching the ship
CARGO? FINAL DESTINATION? OWNER ORIGIN? Bulgaria? ?
Cargo is wheat. Not sure if the final destination yet. Owner: NaviBulgar / Bulgaria
Been raining here all day.
I’ll take rain over snow. I think they’ll be snow this week in Duluth when the ships come through! I’ll keep my eye on it for you
Burrrrr😂❤
Yes, it’s getting colder. I’m glad you enjoyed the ship video.
Definitely an ocean going ship😅
I really appreciate you watching wings. Thanks again for always commenting and checking out the ships.
Giant ship... wimpy horn.
That’s usually how it always goes with those oceangoing ships. It was very tall Ralphy, the ship really impressed me man.⛴️
@@vibewithmike it's just counterintuitive. Ocean freighters have many reasons to sound like the PRT. But end up sounding like a Volkswagen. It's just disappointing.
@ralphyboy3636 especially out on the ocean. You definitely would want a ship to hear you from a long distance.
Beautiful ship
The ship is humongous and gorgeous at the same time
