I'm quite certain that theres multiple ways of tuning a banjo and with each unique tuning, comes with it's own style. Like Iridh, Celtic, bluegrass. Ect.
You're so right. While I was watching, I kept thinking what's more famous than this one? And I was like, ohhhh yeah, forgot about those! Lol kept getting "famouser" 😂
Was never much of a bluegrass fan…that is, until I retired and started teaching myself to play the banjo a little over 1 year ago. It’s been simultaneously the most exhilarating and humbling experience of my life - listening to your mesmerizing renditions of the stuff I’m still trying to master is like a shot of adrenaline! Gotta go and practice more now!
For a while I was stuck on deciding what instrument to learn, and once I found your channel I decided on the banjo. Thanks for showing how awesome the banjo is
Just got my first banjo yesterday. I'm going to try to learn those 5 songs over the next year. I've been playing guitar for 50 years. Thanks for the videos.
Loved hearing rocky top on the banjo. I went to school at UT Knoxville. I'm taking up the banjo to learn right now and this will be a song I will learn.
When I first went to UTK, the tour guide said I needed to know Rocky Top to go here. My family’s from Tennessee, so my dad said “If you live in Tennessee and don’t know Rocky Top, you need to get slappped!” 😂
Man that's some good fast pickin! I was looking for banjo music and when you did Foggy Mountain Breakdown I had to follow. I'm thinking about getting a banjo. My dad passed recently and we listened to bluegrass together and I'd like to give it a try.
Hi Mason, i just inherited a banjo and thanks to your enthusiasm for the instrument i am taking u tube lessons off you and Eli Gilbert and love love it. In Australia we don't have much bluegrass but i am hoping to give my playing the Aussie Twang, and i guess i will document my learnings as i go. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love this!! I am learning and playing piano now, but I would love to play a stringed instrument like the banjo in the future. As a singer, I would love to have something portable I can sing with :)
Like to see you play with billy strings. You are excellent!! Hm let me guess the songs Cripple Creek Foggy Mountain Breakdown Rocky Top Dueling Banjos Rocky Top Dueling Banjos Beverly Hillbillies
I love this! You are very talented! I have learned a lot from your videos. I have an old 1960's Chicago Harmony Banjo, I can play a little on it. How are you able to pick so fast without mistakes?
Are there certain keys (ex. key of G, etc.) that a banjo will sound its best in, maybe because of its strings, register, tuning, etc.? Kindly bear the basic curiosity. 😊
@@johnnybigoude5120 I like them better. They don't affect where you put your fingers, they're just little pieces of metal that you install into the fingerboard right under the 5th string and then you put the string under them when capoed.

But when summer comes around you best believe my words when we get close 110 degrees out we wear short sleeve shirts and full blue jeans, because you boys and girls down south might have big mosquitoes but we got them too and chiggers, and ankle biting ticks. But if we start wearing long sleeve shirts we are either hunting or fishing, or we are working to make enough sweat so our wives or girlfriends or whom ever is telling us to be sweaty and only then are we allowed to grab a cold one and shower and cuddle our partner.
Wow. There's not very much you can do with a banjo. It's all pretty much the same tune. Dissapointing
Judging an entire genre (actually multiple genres) of music by only 5 examples... They're different, you just can't hear it apparently 😂
My man pinned this poor dude just to roast him lmaooo@@MasonCroneMusic

I too have a mental deficiency.
I’m sorry that you’ve never heard of Béla Fleck

They forgot the main theme of banjo-Kazooie!!!
You're so right. While I was watching, I kept thinking what's more famous than this one? And I was like, ohhhh yeah, forgot about those! Lol kept getting "famouser" 😂
I ain't apologizing for my on purpose incorrect Grammer.
Haha, I tried to base it off of which ones are most well known among people who may not even like bluegrass
Bluegrass rocks. Us southerners love it.
I kept thinking Dixie as 1 but yeah that's up there too
I was waiting for Shucking the Corn or Soldiers Joy.
I accidentally played this on 1.75 and was like Holy crap my dude can shred

Hey man, I’ve been trying to decide what I want to learn to play, and between this and a harmonica, I’ve found my stride thank you.
How's the journey going mate?

I have to say thanks from Brazil!!! I've learned banjo with you man!!
The banjo sounds really GREAT when accompanied with other instruments. (The Kingston Trio for example).
It is banjo lovers of today like you that keep the heritage going of an art that has been fading out. More videos....!...!
Howdy 🤠 from coastal Mississippi. I am Cajun, and yes there are many ways of playing a banjo 🪕. Very good sir, l enjoy your music 🎉

Nice banjo playing, I am subscribing in hopes of some of it rubbing off.

That's awesome, I have a lot of tutorials already but am working on more!
@@MasonCroneMusic Thanks for answering me, I always watch all your videos. Greetings and blessings
Хорошо играет товарищ! ;)
Beautiful
You'd think foggy moutain breakdown would be more popular than the ballad of jed clampet
Among bluegrass musicians, yes. I'd say The Ballad of Jed Clampett is more famous among people who aren't into bluegrass though.
Definitely. Beverly hillbillies was everyone’s intro to bluegrass! Mine especially
Either you're on a band, or not. Because this is impressive
Lovely 🌻
Wonderful ! Is Rocky Top is a digficult One ?
Thanks! It isn't really, pretty standard
Very cool thanks
Great job.
Thanks!
Music to my ears!
Do you have tabs for these somewhere?
A few of them are on my Patreon page

Thanks so much for the donation! Bluegrass banjo certainly is easiest in G. But pro players sound great in any key.
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Awesome
Im Greek and i totally love this kind of music. I find it exciting and entertaining.
My favorite the ballad of jed clampett
This guy has natural raw talent
Thanks. Developed through practice though! I don't believe much in natural raw talent.
Good style and sound ? Really like!

Should play thunder struck on a banjo I do once and while live
Wow you’re good!
Thanks!
Insane!!!!.
I remember my dad saying “tightener’ than a banjo string” and I think I understand that now
🎵 TRUE HISTORY 🎶🌹🇺🇸
Hi Mason, what do you use to capo your 5ft string here ?
I was using a Strum Hollow 5th string capo here, I have spikes now though.
@@MasonCroneMusic thanks ! Are spikes better ? don't they modify the way you have to place your fingers ?
@@johnnybigoude5120 I like them better. They don't affect where you put your fingers, they're just little pieces of metal that you install into the fingerboard right under the 5th string and then you put the string under them when capoed.
Great job. But you should play them fast.
Thanks! I'll try harder next time 🤣
Is ashthorpe a good beginner banjo
Banjos in that price range are pretty much all the same and not great. I would go with the Rogue B30, it's a little better.
I've seen Deering Goodtime and Record King recommended a lot for beginners. Also the Gold Tone AC-1 sounds really good despite it's really cheap price.
@@samhouston1288 Those are way more expensive than the ashthorpe he's asking about though 🙂
It's what I have. It is ok for awhile but I'm definitely outgrowing it. If you're not sure if you'll stick with it it's a cheap way to try it out, but you'll want to upgrade pretty quickly if you do like to play
