Many black artists have gone Nashville (ATL 4 Country music) & get stuck writing songs that white country artist end up singing. Some black artists have been vocal but they are that don't day anything. I do think some white country artists have tried to properly infuse music from the culture like hip-hop and received a lot of backlash from the country community. Do ppl even remember country artist let alone the song with Nelly. Hopefully Beyonce 🌟 power can keep the conversation going & open doors for black artists to do more than write songs.

I miss the days where radio just played good songs and hit songs, regardless of genre. I remember WBLK in Western New York would go from playing Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers (Islands In a Stream), to playing New Edition (Mr Telephone Man), to Slick Rick (Teenage Love), to Boy George (Karma Chameleon). Radio was so much more fun in the 80s. I loved IT ALL! I love all genres.

I remember a long time ago watching a reality show about actors and singers singing country I think for the first time. The host is a very well known Country singer and he said the Country singing business world is very serious about what they do and they don't let just anybody in. You have to prove yourself. I've posted this somewhere but l'll say it again : fun fact, country music is really popular among black people in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia to name a few. My mother always talked about how black Americans helped start the genre.

It is important that she gets radio play on country stations, because if she doesn't they will place her in the pop genre with regards to receiving awards. There are only a few Black artist in this genre & so not playing her on the radio is like them telling her to stay in her lane & that she can't branch over to Country. I agree that these Beyonce songs aren’t country just because they sound country They’re sung by an rnb/pop/hip hop artist and by the way written by underground white pop rock artists none of which are country and produced by Raphael Saadiq (nothing country there either) and though they’re largely inspired by country music they still have pop/RnB vibes all over them which is a good thing by the way for her fans since Country music puts me to sleep.

Unlike hip-hop, Country music has rules set by a committee that determines what ingredients make country music; hip-hop doesn't have this, just people's opinions of what hip-hop should be, and that's why everything is hip-hop. Just cause it sounds country, it doesn't make it country.

People are going to try to downplay this by saying Beyonce isn't a country artist but this is part of a bigger problem with Black artists and the music industry in general. Look at every award show and it doesn't matter what music an artist makes - they're likely going to be placed into "Black categories" - R&B, rap, hip hop. Rihanna is a pop artist and award shows were still categorizing her as R&B. Drake made Hotline Bling and award shows were categorizing it as rap when that is clearly a pop song. Doja Cat raps but she is clearly a pop artist.
Meanwhile, a White artist can fall into any category of music regardless. Black artists are always confined into Black categories.
That’s not completely true. Artist label’s submit their music under the genre they want to be nominated for. It’s the same way when they upload a song to these music platforms they select the genre they want the song to be under. If Beyonce considers this song Country, I don’t understand why her team put it under Pop.

This was not asking to play Beyonce. They asked to play her COUNTRY song on the COUNTRY station. Make sure you’re clear on your argument. I am a big country music fan & have been FOREVER. This story is not unique to Bey. Hopefully this opens doors for other Black country artists.
