  • Our best team immersion EVER
For eight years Stay Forth has functioned as a decentralized team. While Zoom is a great space for reach and productivity it's a poor space for deepening connectivity and trust. We make it a habit of getting together twice a year for an in-person immersion. For multiple reasons this was our best immersion EVER. We've got plenty of new things brewing (but we can't share them yet).
Leaders often ask me, "How do we maximize a team immersion?"
These three things contribute to a productive team immersion.
Proactivity: Craft an agenda, create momentum coming in and look ahead to the needs and decisions of the next 6-12 months.
What should we look ahead at, talk about and solve for?
Play: Laugh, eat well, have fun and let your time together breathe.
How can we cultivate an inspiring, connective experience?
Personal: Get to know each other as people, not just coworkers.
What are their dreams, desires and family dynamics?

    A sketchy peak climb
I talk a lot about priorities. By definition they are important, but they are rarely urgent. One of my biggest priorities this year is taking my son through a rite of passage to his teenage years. Everyone knows we need more good, initiated men in our culture!
One of the challenges my son selected is a climb up a 14,000 foot peak. We trained for this and put it on the calendar for last week. As we approached the trailhead early in the morning we knew the conditions might be unstable. They turned from okay to sketchy on the way up. The clouds rolled in, the wind picked up and the fog closed in all visibility behind us. A few hours later we summited Mount Sherman with the wind whipping. It was 23 degrees, and my son was overjoyed.
I'll never forget that moment. Ever. He didn't just battle his way up that mountain; we've persisted through a year of challenges together. Anything worth doing in life is accompanied by plenty of challenges and (at times) some sketchy conditions.
