So, the reason the imagery in Spring Day couldn't be straightforward is because if it had been absolutely, 100% clear that the visuals of the music video were a tribute to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy, then BTS would have faced serious consequences with the Korean government/Korean president at that time. Even with only subtle hints, this music video (and another song of theirs, 'Am I Wrong') got BTS on a blacklist of artists that the government was hoping to censor or arrest (the list was found after the impeachment of the Korean president when the court was collecting evidence). It was only after that president and her cabinet had been removed that BTS could reveal that the imagery in the music video was definitely referencing Sewol. The lyrics, however, aren't directly related to the tragedy (Namjoon and Yoongi have said as much), but can be easily applied as it is a song about the feelings of missing someone/something, grief, longing, etc.
yes i watch that documentary about seoul ferry tragedy and the korean president , and everybody was not allowed to talk about the it. But when that president got impeached thats just the time Rm freely talked about spring day is their tribute for that tragedy.
About the tribute evidence being subtle. It's because that tragedy was the government's negligence being criminal. The pilot abandoned the raft carrying teenagers from a school when the raft was sinking they were forbidden to leave and even with the cry for help, the help took a while and they broke the news that everyone was fine. But 80% died, mostly teenagers. In Korea it is mandatory to obey the elders so that they obey. Volunteers looking for the bodies and the government didn't seem to care too much. did very little There were many protests against the government, the pilot who abandoned the ferry, the wrong information even knowing the gravity If I'm not mistaken, the presidency was deposed. And then the Korean government banned any act that was explicit about the tragedy and the demonstration. BTs don't speak openly, but RM makes it understood by saying he leaves it to our interpretation. So it cannot be explicit. But if you like, I can show you proof of the homage and a silent manifesto in metaphors.
Yes, Spring Day is indeed still charting on Melon, and it has been since it came out in 2017. It's the longest charting song in the chart's history! :) "Not Today" is a really special song for me, because I got into BTS when I was at the lowest point in my life and I'm not exaggerating when I say that for a while playing that song on loop is what kept me going. To this day, it's still my favorite BTS title track.
Spring Day is like the national anthem in Korea. Every young and old Koreans know of Spring Day and respect to BTS (RM ESPECIALLY) for the genius Songwriting
V and Jimin have such unique voices ... then you see their visuals and it's incredible. Crazy beautiful voices and humans. Then RM grabbed my attention in Mic Drop and ON. Pretty soon, I was in awe of everyone in BTS.
your reaction at 4:36 for Tae's voice really represent me back in 2017! I started becoming an army after watching DNA MV and was sooo shocked by his voice. I was just not expecting him to sound that deep if that make sense? Life-changing-- literally lol. Also, a little fun fact, Spring Day spends its 287th week inside the Melon Weekly Chart at #85 today! Queen Spring Day, as we call it within the fandom, is a dear song for a lot of people 💜
Agreed! First song I actually heard/listened to by BTS was 4 o’clock with V and RM…I felt like I had just been wrapped into the coziest blanket just listening to their deep voices, especially V’s. I genuinely hope Singularity and Stigma are one his list to react or at least listen to because I truly think he will appreciate the soulfulness of Kim Taehyung’s voice.
Thank you RJ for playing Not Today. I forgot how significant this song can be in the life of a 66 year old discovering self for the first time. As always, I love 💜watching your surprise as you become ARMY. As you can see, we 💕 these guys.
The words "If you can't run, walk. If you can't walk, crawl" purportedly are from Dr. MLK, Jr. Not Today was filmed in extreme cold. There are patches of snow on the ground in some scenes.
Just to be clear, although Spring Day has become a tribute to the Sewol tragedy the lyrics themselves are not about it. As a native Korean speaker myself the lyrics used are very poetic (in a Korean way) and certain words are used to invoke a feeling within us rather than the actual word (very hard to explain this in English) . This is why the imagery of snow is used for example. This help international fans picture the lyrics used. The song has become very special to many Koreans and to this day is still in our music charts.
RM got inspiration from the famous Obama speech when we wrote Mic Drop. It’s s a big FY to the haters, the guys endured so much over the years, if you want to catch up, XCeleste has a great video called BTS hardships. Spring Day is full of symbolism, from Books to Korean movies, to art installations, there are lots of explanation videos out there, but if decide to check one of those, prepare and have some Kleenex on hand. It’s worth it though. This song has been on charts since it’s release, it’s an icon.
I was like I wonder if he’s gonna freak out over the same part I did in DNA … and you did lmao V looked and sounded too crazy in that part. In the best way
someone probably already mentioned it but there is a Mic Drop original version on their album! It’s all in korean. personally i love it more even though both versions are epic 😂
For Spring Day, please watch the Explained by an Italian Army. For Idol, use DKDKTV's interpretation, as he goes over a lot of Korean symbolism. Glad you enjoyed all of these; they're some of my favorites (but I have a Long list of BTS favorites...lol).

Yess! BTS lyrics mean so much to so many of us. I can genuinely say some of their songs changed my perspective on how I live my life and how I see things, and that’s not at all what I was looking for when I got into BTS a few years ago. The title tracks are not any different, but seriously the magic is in the B sides and the members’ solo work in my opinion. Love your facial expressions watching MIC DROP, you were smiling all the way thru it. Many people won't even give BTS a chance, they think they are just a "boy band" for young girls. They are so much deeper, and really care about every age, so humble. You have fallen down the "rabbit hole" of BTS, and you will be glad you did. I want to see how long it takes you to say you're ARMY. You have a new subscriber here. Thank you!💜
Mic drop is one of the most badass bts song and it's one of my favourites and Spring day is my soul song actually tbh it's every armies soul song . Thankyou for reacting to it 🌟
Another trophy! Too many that I can’t even count them! I love Mic Drop and every time someone doubts my skills as a designer, I start pulling awards and kudos and this song plays as I walk away. I did not know the back story of Spring Day as I am new to KPop so I will be looking for more information as well. DNA visuals, vocals and lyrics are just the bee’s knees! I literally have that and Home as the only “favorited” BTS songs on my playlist because I love them so much. And Not Today… you are so right. If that song doesn’t motivate you to get things going and not be swayed in your conviction, I don’t know what would get you motivated and yes… it’s on my exercise playlist. 👍🏽 thanks for sharing
You are right about Spring Day, the song started with RM and was written about his and Suga's friends they lost / grew apart from in the past. So the general theme of it is about loss and longing but it fits well with the MV which was subtly done as dedication to the Sewol tragedy. The MV isn't a clear depiction because it was a highly political issue.
It was Love Yourself: Her era when I got first introduced by my friend/officemate to BTS. She let me watch DNA but it doesn't catch me that much. So when I backtracked their MVs, I watched Micdrop and Blood, Sweat and Tears. What gotme to stan them is Spring Day. It was reminiscent of my fav band (Coldplay) so I read the comments about it (the incident) and searched about it. And then knowing that BTS has meanings most of their songs sucked me into the rabbithole. PS: When I was first starting my BTS journey, I get JK and Jin confused lol
Yes, "spring day" song and video is full of symbolism (if you re interested please watch the referred video)! And yes this song is very very important to korean people and ARMY also ! Yes,they went subtle in this!"Gentlemantic " in the best format! They wrote it from the perspective of the emotions from the one's left behind. Leaving behind the political injustice and corruption of this tragedy ,they just expressed the real ,human outcome. The feelings of the families, bothers sisters, friends that they have to cope with the lost of their loved ones. How to understand and cope that forcefully got to try to acknowledge that they will never meet them again .The stress, agony, rage and heartbreak(the aftermath) .The pure feelings of the outcome. That is what makes this song so important.Everyone around the world also can relate, everyone that lost someone sudden ,unjustified, even beyond their control(like fade away, drift apart or lose contact).Legendary!I'm an Army for so long and still "spring day" holds a unique spot in my heart (and I believe to a lot of us too)!
I can't wait to see you react to the other MVs, honestly, they haven't had a single bad MV. And fyi, Spring Day is referenced A TON in Yet to Come, which was just released.
Really enjoying your BTS reactions. Thank you and keep them coming plz. As for the explanation videos hope to see your reaction to them soon. If you're looking for another motivation songs there's 'Tomorrow' and SUGA's intro song 'Nevermind' there's a translated live performances since they're side tracks. Have a great time!
for spring day they cant be direct because at the time people were being blacklisted by the government for even supporting the victims families so a video calling out the horrific incident would definitely be blacklisted or censored. the explanation video by Italian army is very helpful in breaking down the imagery and she even met with the victims families who said they felt the song was for them and their kids. many koreans felt it was and pdogg one of bts producers as well as jin did some what confirm it ina recent interview. even though the former president was impeached many people who were in government at that time still are so its still not safe to directly say it plus with thenew president being a mess korea has it really difficult right now. bts also made a song called am i wrong in the album before this and it called out a government official directly so the government was already looking at them with eyebrows raised so they decided to be more discreet with spring day. it was revealed 1000s of artists were on blacklists before the president was impeached bts couldve been on the lists had the president not been impeached.
Hi - thanks for reacting to BTS. Frankly, I really don't mind when reactors need to pause the video to say something, but I also like it when they simply watch and listen while their jaw drops and they realise that BTS was indeed *not* what they expected, and that they need to re-watch to take it all in. I appreciate your respect, sir. Thank you. It is indeed very hard to describe BTS to a Western audience, because there are no valid comparisons to make. You hve to experience them. Then you begin to know.
You had me on an emotional roller coaster today lol! Spring day gets me every time, knowing what the MV stands for. Not today makes me want to get up and dance! Great reaction!!
Oh and if you do, do an explanation video please make sure you do the one by the Italian army so you can really see what everything means! Just be prepared to get emotional 💜
I want you to try to read the meaning in MV Spring day. There are many connotations about The sinking of the Sewol boat is one of the biggest tragedy in Korea. BTS visited the parents of those children who were suffering from it, so RM wrote this song. to mourn them
I am enjoying your reactions greatly. You have a calm eagerness that is restful and interesting. I look forward to your reactions to the solo songs (I notice you are investigating them in this playlist). Something I appreciate about BTS MV' s is that though they may be dated--clothes, styles, so on--they are NEVER outdated and still blow one away.
I watch all your BTS video's. I hope you continue to react on it. If it's difficult for you to read and watch in the same time, what you can do is watch first the MV and after play again and read the lyrics. But you choose how you react; definitely l will enjoy it. Big hug from Spain 🤗💜
Glad you're enjoying your BTS journey. It can be overwhelming, the lyrics, the visuals, the music, the production, which member is who (you know KPOP, the hair color keeps changing). After a bit, you'll be able to differentiate not just their singing voice, but their speaking voice, their laugh. ARMY are nitty gritty and can differentiate their lips, their eyes, their fingers, their walking gait, their stance. I mean, Jin's shoulder's and SUGA's gummy smile...
So I always always watch a mv 3 times when it comes out from BTS. 1st I just watch the MV no lyrics just the mv, 2nd time I have the lyrics on and 3rd time I rewatch it again to see what I missed. But I still miss things. That the way I get the message. Also it always cool to see other people cover BTS songs but it is the Best from it from BTS themselves. Not knocking any others just how it is.
You should 100% watch the explanation video for Spring day, it was made by Italian ARMY! You will understand the importance of the video and the meaning of the lyrics as well.
DNA is about the first perfect love and the beginning of a storyline. The first album describes that from the first meeting to the question if something is wrong. In the next album the relationship tears apart: we were not honest about who we were and hurting because of it. The Answer is on the third (compilation) album of the Love Yourself series: "Epiphany": we have to love out imperfect selves first before we can love others in a healthy way. There is an original MicDrop that is only a little different in sound and has less English (and no MV). There is a dance practice with the original song. The translations are not perfect but not that bad either. Doolsetbangtan has more literal translations. What can you say about the Queen "Spring Day"? This song is since its drop in spring of 2017 in the charts. The song is about missing friends/losing them in its lyrics conception. I see all the steps of grieving but for Koreans it is the perfect embodiment of the Korean emotion "Han". MV and choreo on the other hand are referencing the desaster. Italian Army is definetly the best: "what you still don't know about BTS Spring Day". They are dancing on glass. "Not today" is a challenge. Baepsae or crowtit (sometimes translated as tryhard) is a small fluffball of a bird. It comes from a Korean Idiom about how a crowtit trying to walk like a stork will split its legs. It is about trying to do things that are above your means so you will likely fail as storks have very long legs. Getting into an expensive music school will be trouble if your parents/you don't have the money for it. You nice! Keep going!
About 26:22, crow tit is a type of bird that is native to southeast Asia. It's a reference to their song Baepsae (Korean for crowtit), which is another song you should definitely check out.
22:42 Please also watch the explanation on Blood, sweat and tears. This is one of their most mysterious and probably unsolved mv that have lot of meaning on every single scene
to be very honest, i did not really vibe with this type of music when i was getting into kpop. but as dug deeper into their discography and lyricism, i came to love and respect bts. im army for six years now
Please watch Spring Day explanation by Italian army to understand the video. It’s a very difficult watch but informative. In my opinion it’s the most important video. Thanks
The song Spring Day is not about the Ferry incident itself. The lyrics can be applied to just about anything, however, they most definitely interpreted the MV to honor the ferry incident. There's NEVER anything simple about their lyrics and goes a lot deeper than what you actually think.
Please watch a love performance of spring day.... you can watch class of 2020 performance of spring day or tiny desk concert...This song has a whole different vibe in live performances
I'll never be able to shut up about *"Not Today"* Yeah a song that found me one early morning at the edge of it all If you can't fly, run. If you can't run walk, crawl. Get up, it's not over. Not Today. Paraphrased but yeah,Bangtan Sonyeondan spoke to me that morning and clearly too. *"Get up and fight, today's not a to die"*
BTS is about Positivity, that's why they made super happy songs this pandemic with happy colors and everything. This is to boost mental health of everybody. Like Dynamite, Permission to Dance and Butter
So many of my favorite songs in one video ! I love your reactions. Sir Austin is my favorite reactor...and you have quickly become #2. That's a compliment...btw. I've been watching Austin a long time so he can't be replaced. LOL. Thank you so much for your honest and entertaining reactions ! :)
For Spring Day, if you want the explanation video please check out the video from the italian army. It includes actual footages. Btw, they also have behind the scenes of the MVs. Live performance the songs you watched are way better: Mic Drop - Love Yourself Concert live and MAMA 2017 performance Spring Day - MMA 2017 performance Not Today - Wembley live concert
Yes there is an original Mic Drop, no MV, but the live performance at the BTS Comeback Show. It was good even before the remix. And there is another version on Soundcloud that features Desiigner. Spring Day had to be abstract/metaphorical because of danger from a possible government blacklist. Not Today quotes Dr Martin Luther King. And "crow tit" is a very small bird that is a metaphor for the disadvantaged lower classes.

Your face when RM came busting out of that ambulance in Mic Drop. 😂😂😂 He goes SO HARD in that song and I am here for it. Great reaction! You should definitely watch the Spring Day MV explanation. Every scene means something. BTS is so deep. 💜
You have to see the extended dance practice version of Mic Drop which will totally blow your mind! Just as well there’s a live performance - special stage version of Mic Drop that is equally amazing! And it still may be the one you saw on Jingle Bells! I remember that as well and they have so many changes of choreo… you just have to know or keep going until you do! I am enjoying your reactions! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽💜♾
3 for 1 rule...what I do. Listen to the song (eyes closed), then watch the video (no subtitles), and finally I'll watch it with subtitles - only way to experience each dimension of their music. There is soooooo much going on in the music, voice, plus the lyrics, plus the eye popping visuals.
The MV is more the tribute, the song RM& Suga has said their writing on the song song was written about missing old friends. So the song can be interpreted in many ways.
So, the reason the imagery in Spring Day couldn't be straightforward is because if it had been absolutely, 100% clear that the visuals of the music video were a tribute to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy, then BTS would have faced serious consequences with the Korean government/Korean president at that time.
YES TO BTS 💜💜💜
Love your reaction❤... #BTSARMY4EVER💜
Spring day is such a beautiful song
I want you to try to read the meaning in MV Spring day. There are many connotations about The sinking of the Sewol boat is one of the biggest tragedy in Korea. BTS visited the parents of those children who were suffering from it, so RM wrote this song. to mourn them
I am enjoying your reactions greatly. You have a calm eagerness that is restful and interesting. I look forward to your reactions to the solo songs (I notice you are investigating them in this playlist). Something I appreciate about BTS MV' s is that though they may be dated--clothes, styles, so on--they are NEVER outdated and still blow one away.
kings of the music industry.
I watch all your BTS video's. I hope you continue to react on it. If it's difficult for you to read and watch in the same time, what you can do is watch first the MV and after play again and read the lyrics. But you choose how you react; definitely l will enjoy it. Big hug from Spain 🤗💜
yes BTS keeps me rejuvinated and happier than I ever could be
Glad you're enjoying your BTS journey.
4:34 this was also my reaction, his voice🥹
My ult bias since day 1
There is original song of Mic drop in korean version it was fire I personally like the Korea version more that the remix
Yeah I became ARMY with Mic Drop btw
you can reaction mv " i need you" ," prologue", " run" , "young forever". These mv very awesome
MIC DROP is my favorite BTS song its just so vibey!
welcome to the bts rabbit hole, this will be a long positive journey that will make you become part of the bts army.
You nice! Keep going!
Spring Day still makes me cry, my god. I'm so happy you're enjoying their discography!
They are just so pretty
I'm excited to watch u watching their performances or dance practice cuz they really deserve what they have right now
About 26:22, crow tit is a type of bird that is native to southeast Asia. It's a reference to their song Baepsae (Korean for crowtit), which is another song you should definitely check out.
RJ, watch their performances in Dear Class of 2020. Still one of my faves to watch. And their NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert, vocals so so good. :)
yes
22:42 Please also watch the explanation on Blood, sweat and tears. This is one of their most mysterious and probably unsolved mv that have lot of meaning on every single scene
I love your BTS reactions 💜
Spring day is one of my favorite songs ever
to be very honest, i did not really vibe with this type of music when i was getting into kpop. but as dug deeper into their discography and lyricism, i came to love and respect bts.
im army for six years now
Please watch Spring Day explanation by Italian army to understand the video. It’s a very difficult watch but informative. In my opinion it’s the most important video. Thanks
DNA Tae is for the history books
The song Spring Day is not about the Ferry incident itself. The lyrics can be applied to just about anything, however, they most definitely interpreted the MV to honor the ferry incident. There's NEVER anything simple about their lyrics and goes a lot deeper than what you actually think.
Please watch a love performance of spring day.... you can watch class of 2020 performance of spring day or tiny desk concert...This song has a whole different vibe in live performances
Thanks for your reaction 💜
Army forever 💜
I'll never be able to shut up about *"Not Today"* Yeah a song that found me one early morning at the edge of it all
If you can't fly, run. If you can't run walk, crawl. Get up, it's not over. Not Today.
Paraphrased but yeah,Bangtan Sonyeondan spoke to me that morning and clearly too. *"Get up and fight, today's not a to die"*
Yes, def check out the explained video for Spring Day.
Dance practices are a must watch. 😊
Watch the explanation videos for Spring Day. You will be amazed at the lyrics and the symbolism in the video for the Sewol ferry tragedy.
On the surface the song DNA sounds like a love song with a lover. However, usually BTS use of the term girl = Army.
Mic drop still one of my fave BTS songs ^_^
BTS is only Once In a Lifetime ARTISTS ‼️
Queen Spring Day...👑💜 Reaksiyon için teşekkürler...
For Spring Day, if you want the explanation video please check out the video from the italian army. It includes actual footages. Btw, they also have behind the scenes of the MVs. Live performance the songs you watched are way better:
Mic Drop - Love Yourself Concert live and MAMA 2017 performance
Spring Day - MMA 2017 performance
Not Today - Wembley live concert
Yes there is an original Mic Drop, no MV, but the live performance at the BTS Comeback Show. It was good even before the remix. And there is another version on Soundcloud that features Desiigner. Spring Day had to be abstract/metaphorical because of danger from a possible government blacklist. Not Today quotes Dr Martin Luther King. And "crow tit" is a very small bird that is a metaphor for the disadvantaged lower classes.
I can't wait for you to see the full singularity video. That song.... it's so soulful and sexy sounding but the lyrics are deep af
I got into BTS like... the day before DNA came out and that started my descent down this kpop hole xD
SAME
And now you're an ex army? Just asking
@@rikhmjustsomeguywithmousta4971 I still like BTS, I find the fandom too toxic tho
@@jameoww hmm most 3rd gen fandoms are toxic, speaking as an ex exol myself. Atleast Armys does donations and campaigns regularly. I do stay away from Twitter its a hell. But I’m a multisian
@@rikhmjustsomeguywithmousta4971 I'm a monbebe first, but yeah in recent years the fandom has gotten more toxic. I mostly just stick to my multi friends these days lol.
Yeah the old exol/army days were bad. Sad that the bullied became the bullies.
If you like their dancing/choreography, there are practice videos of almost all of their songs... They are amazing dancers... Love your reactions..
Your face when RM came busting out of that ambulance in Mic Drop. 😂😂😂 He goes SO HARD in that song and I am here for it. Great reaction! You should definitely watch the Spring Day MV explanation. Every scene means something. BTS is so deep. 💜
Listen spring day song make me cry😭😭
You have to see the extended dance practice version of Mic Drop which will totally blow your mind! Just as well there’s a live performance - special stage version of Mic Drop that is equally amazing! And it still may be the one you saw on Jingle Bells! I remember that as well and they have so many changes of choreo… you just have to know or keep going until you do! I am enjoying your reactions! 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽💜♾
The song you listened in new year's eve I think it was "boy with love"
Sorry I had to pause to say how I love your reaction to V's solo part in DNA. It was priceless! haha 💜💜💜
finally you react bts back 🥰 please watch other bts shows like mama's show and don't forget to watch bts run because it's very entertaining wkwk
I watch reaction videos as a hobby and out of all the reaction channels I've watched yours is always one I look forward too :)
I recommend you: I need you, RUN, short films Of all members, we are bulletproof: the eternal, serendipity, Pide piper, magic shop, Dimple, stigma…..
I really loved your reaction to Mic Drop ~ I still watch that video and get chills at certain points because it’s so good. Breath-taking stuff…😁💜
thanks for the reaction to the bts super band....
The lyrics on b-side tracks are so motivational and also I feel have very genius wordplay too define check them out too
Not today was the perfect song to follow something as heavy as Spring Day. The damn alarm sounding through all of spring day 😭. Kills me every time
The MV is more the tribute, the song RM& Suga has said their writing on the song song was written about missing old friends. So the song can be interpreted in many ways.
