Dear Lindsay, I keep watching all your tutorials over and over. I learn something new each time even though I've seen it many times before. I think, no, I know that you are THE BEST instructor on the web. I have watched others, but they just paint and don't do anything else. All they have is dead air. Sorry to all you others, but it is the truth. You, Lindsay, explain what you are doing, you show the painting, the mixing of the paint on the palette, you explain the whys, the hows, the whats and if there were the who and the where I am sure you would explain that too. You also have the patience to keep explaining to us idiots the answers to the questions you hear over and over again. God love you, He knows we do. Thank you.
Lindsay could you possibly do a video on how you clean your brushes? I wash and wash mine but the next day there always seems to be some dried paint or glue or something down by the barrel and I would like to get some really good brushes but not until I learn how to clean them properly. Thanks Tammy Love the videos..
I talked to the sales person at my local art store when I was looking at the Masters brush cleaner. He said that the Masters is best to get out stains or paint that has dried on the brush. However, if you have just been painting and there is nothing dried on your brushes, he said that he just uses dish soap and it works great.
I wanted to stop you splatter paint towards the end of the video. Lol! Then after seeing some of your other stuff I realized it's just something you do. I personally dislike it, but hey, it's not my painting. It's still an informative tutorial!
Thank you. Even the ones that didn't turn out the way that you wanted look awesome. I love your channel and tell my friends to watch you. I love the way you chat while you are painting. It makes you feel non-intimidating, which I have found with other youtube tutorials. You and your video tutorials are awesome.
Beautiful! I really need to work on being more relaxed and less literal ("fussy" to quote you! Lol) with my paintings. This is the first video of yours that I've seen but I'm on my way to check out the others now! :) thank you for sharing your skill with us all.
I know this is an old video but I just wanted to say that I love watching your videos, just watching you paint teaches me so much and I've noticed improvement in my own artwork! Love your videos!
So beautiful. Thanks. Wonder how many (more) tulips I have to paint before I like one as well as I like your's! My most recent try isn't even good enough to line the bottom of the birdcage.
Thank you so much, Lindsay. You are so inspiring-- I haven't picked up a brush in over a year. But, after watching your video, I might just try tomorrow and see what I can come up with!
2 quick questions...... what watercolors make a skin color and have u done any stargazer lilies? my son bought me some years ago and they are now not coming up anymore.....
I have a problem with the colors fading. I am using expensive paints, is that my problem? Honestly, it looks like a four year old painted it. I am ready to give up. Help!
I know about boys and scout camp. lol It has been years, but I remember how gross it was to empty the laundry bags.lol Beautiful job on the tulip. Hugs
I love tulips -- maybe because they don't grow in the South When we were stationed in Washington (state), I grew them just as fast as the banana slugs could eat 'em. If I had watercolor tulips, I wouldn't have had to mess with the slugs!
So nice !! I made mine yesterday and it needs some improvements but for the first let's say average, but I had a great time doing it and will again. Thank you.
Great Video. I'm slowly getting into watercolour painting and was Thinking about maybe making a few greeting cards or postcards with some simple little paintings on them. and was wondering what type of paper should I look for? thanks
tdurnford1 140# watercolor greeting cards, it is cheaper to buy them then make them and you get an envelope. I get mine from Blick but the big-box craft stores probably have them too:)
after a few splotches of paint in my painting area, I painted my first tulip with a decent #4 brush!! a good brush does make a difference - and also a good teacher. Thanks, Lindsay for your watercolour (and other tutorials) - I hope you'd start adding more watercolour paintings ! can't wait!!
Gisel052 I'm not sure what is going on with my white balence, it seems to work itself out a few seconds in, I need to check on that. Thanks for the reminder:)
I noticed that your hand never appears to rest on anything. Are you resting your arm on the table edge? I would think that your arm would get tired if you were holding completely up for long periods of time. This is a beautiful tulip! Thanks, Dee
I have a request for you, when you run out of things to do (laugh). How about painting a Begonia? I love their leaves and the flower come in all different colors. OOXXOO LINDA
Wow, even flowers you don't like to paint come out beautifully! You are SO talented and I just enjoy watching you paint. Loved hearing your kids come in and how you quickly attended to them, a great mom as well as a great artist! Have a wonderful day.
Beautiful, very lifelike. Question, how do you get such big splatters? Mine are always so small. I keep adding water but it never looks like I want it to be.
Just lovely Q the bored u have the paper clipped to what size is that? I would like to make one for my self also I have two request if possible can you please water pain a dachshund I think that would be awesome I have one and a butterfly I love them. Thank you
what are your personal thoughts on watercolor pans vs tubes? I have tubes now that I squirted into a travel palette, but I'm thinking about trying some winsor newton pans out. Love your videos!
I've never done watercolours, in fact I've only been painting acrylics 5mths. Before that, any of this might as well have been brain surgery, it was so far beyond me. Now I find it just awesome how watercolours work & it's really quite relaxing to just watch the colour travel slowly along the moisture, leaving the dry bits alone. One day I might even try it myself - 1 step at a time lol
I Love this tulip! What a wonderful technique of painting with water first to give the outline to the shapes. It has a wonderful quality and spontanaeity! Parrot tulips are among my favorite flowers. To me, they are so colorful and wild! Guess I wouldn't have spattered this watercolor, because it looked great just as it was on the white watercolor paper. But that is just my opinion. You might think of doing a loose bouquet of parrot tulips like this as a tutorial. Just LOVELY! Have a great week!
Just started painting 8 days, once a week. I also feel like kindergarden work. I have learned practice makes perfect. So I painted a tulip with you, next week I will show it to the two teachers I have. So it does not look like you but I like it. Thanks for making it look easy. Kerp up good work.
You make it look so easy! I wonder how you know when to stop because I always (always!) overwork my paintings and then they lose that nice vibrancy and immediacy that is the beauty of watercolor.
Once again a great tutorial! I'm so in love with anything watercolor and learn so much from watching you. Thank you thank you.....so appreciate your time and art and talent!
Hi Lindsay, you have such a fantastic and fun energy! I love to watch your vids. Im a beginner , so I want to know if I can sketch using regular pencils and then fill the draw with watercolor or should I just learn to paint without sketching? Im afraid that the pencil will be a mess with the watercolor. Thank you hun! =)
What exactly is botched about your other tulip paintings? Since I'm just a beginner (no formal lessons, just watching your tutorials), I thought those others were beautiful. Great tutorial!
OK, my comment sounds rude. I know you are a professional and I didn't mean to trivialize your awesome talent. I am getting great lessons from you b/c you're the only one I've ever been inspired by to paint w/ watercolors.
Marlina66 no worries and I did not think you were rude;) I was not happy with them and I wanted to do a tutorial on a pretty flower folks would want to paint:) I also was being a tad to critical I think. You are sweet to be concerned though, than you:)
Alycia Wieler Depending on budget I would go with Strathmore 400 series or Canson Montville for less expensive paper or Arches if you want a really nice yet pricey paper. For watercolor pencils the new Prima or Reeves are less expensive options or Derwent watercolor or Albright druer for more expensive but higher quality. They are all good though:)
Alycia Wieler Derwent Academy are student grade. Look for the artist grade watercolor pencils. I have colorsoft from their artist grade colored pencil range and they are fab :)
so pretty, loved the way the water carried the color, looked like magic! until i tried it- no magic happened for me LOL- i just ordered those Turner watercolors after watching that beautiful building you painted- I joined paintmyphoto also- you have a lot of fans- when i ordered the paints i saw a review from someone who ordered them after watching her favorite youtube teacher :) Just wanted to pass that on to you You are an excellent teacher Lindsay!! Thank you- maria
I think I asked this before thank you for responding btw I love watching you! You make it look so easy but the other Q I have is what size watercolor do you use bis it a 4x6?
In Rococo & Baroque still life paintings there are typically bugs, incests, and wilting or dieing flowers and vegetation to show that nothing beautiful lasts or lives forever. These creatures were used as a metaphor to symbolize destruction, decay, or imperfection. In many of the still life painting from the period you will find one or more of these symbols in it. The painters of the period were breaking the mold and instead of using idealized forms like they did in portrait, religious, and other paintings were depicting what was infront of them bruised fruit, insects, decaying leaves and all. I took a class on Baroque and Rococo Art....I will now return you to your regularly scheduled Watercolor painting tutorial.
I'm not a painter,(crafts really) but i still love watching your tutorials xx
going to be trying some of these out once my watercolor kits arrives
Gorgeous! I love those frilly tulips! They are so pretty! Thanks for sharing!
Tulips are one of my favorite flowers. Your painting turned out beautiful. Love it. Tfs. Bettina
Hi you make it look so easy, your tulip looks very good.
Great little video. Thanks

aww, thank you so much:)
Fabulous!
YOUR LIGHTING IS OFF
HARD TO SEE WHAT ARE THE REAL COLORS YOU ARE USING...?
Hey Lindsay! Loved the video! I was wondering what watercolor palette you were using here? Thanks!
-Katie :)
Nice!!! Thank you
I think you're a fabulous painter and teacher. Love the tulip and all your other flower tutorials.
Can you paint Tiger Lillies? :) I always struggle with their leaves because they bend back.

1892Genesis thank you so much!
It just amazes me how you take a piece of paper and watercolor and a beautiful painting emerges! Thank you
So beautiful. Thanks. Wonder how many (more) tulips I have to paint before I like one as well as I like your's! My most recent try isn't even good enough to line the bottom of the birdcage.

I have just taken up watercolor painting and found this video very helpful. I love the way you paint without tension... just kind of let it flow.
Superd 😃👏👏👏👍
Wow- u seriously gave that ruffled tulip justice! 😘👍🏻♥️
Beautiful. I think what makes tulips difficult is that there is an architectural firmness to them that isn't present in other flowers.
maybe try one of those tulips that have the feathered edges. I bet you would like that better = ) the dutch girl.....
I know its been 8 months since you made this but I just did this and it didn't turn out quite like yours but I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Thank you Lindsay, I can't wait to try this. Love it!

Wow Lindsay stunning Tulip! I
lilcaliblueyes thanks so much!
I like your style. Unfussy and loose is what I need to aim for.
I love it!
Im 11 and I want to be apainter please teach me something
after a few splotches of paint in my painting area, I painted my first tulip with a decent #4 brush!! a good brush does make a difference - and also a good teacher. Thanks, Lindsay for your watercolour (and other tutorials) - I hope you'd start adding more watercolour paintings ! can't wait!!
crabbylotion I have about a hundred;)
LOVE IT! :-) But I must ask.... There is a yellow tint to your videos lately, Did you change your lighting?
Gisel052 I'm not sure what is going on with my white balence, it seems to work itself out a few seconds in, I need to check on that. Thanks for the reminder:)
I noticed that your hand never appears to rest on anything. Are you resting your arm on the table edge? I would think that your arm would get tired if you were holding completely up for long periods of time. This is a beautiful tulip! Thanks, Dee
Deirdre Powers I usually stand to work so it feels natural but you can rest your arm on a table or book.

Use a big wet round brush. I just posted a video on splatters last week if you want more guidance:)
Just lovely Q the bored u have the paper clipped to what size is that? I would like to make one for my self also I have two request if possible can you please water pain a dachshund I think that would be awesome I have one and a butterfly I love them. Thank you
Kathleen Hurley 6"x8", just cut cardboard or foamboard 1/2" to1" larger than the card you like to paint on.
what are your personal thoughts on watercolor pans vs tubes? I have tubes now that I squirted into a travel palette, but I'm thinking about trying some winsor newton pans out. Love your videos!
annevai I use both. I refill my pans with tubes because I prefer to paint from the dry cake of color as it is always ready and portable.
Lindsay, THANK YOU!!! I followed along with you and LOVE the results!! YOU are an awesome teacher!! I'm grateful for you sharing your talents!! xx
hi so i was wondering if you could do a video on how to paint a rose plz
I've never done watercolours, in fact I've only been painting acrylics 5mths. Before that, any of this might as well have been brain surgery, it was so far beyond me. LOVE your videos! Tulips are my fav flower.. you have helped me a lot with my watercolor paintings... thanks so much!
Such a fun piece! I feel like I did it successfully. A quick birthday card for a friend!
This was a pleasure to watch. I'd like to learn to use watercolors, and they seem so intimidating!
+Kim Morgan give it a try;) you can do it!
Wow! Those are all beautiful tulips!
Thank you for this.
I always learn so much about watercolor from you! You've made it so easy to learn what I thought was so hard! TYFS!!!
I love this "loose" tulip look! I have always had trouble with them looking fake. Can't wait to try this method! Thank you
Once again a great tutorial! I'm so in love with anything watercolor and learn so much from watching you. Thank you thank you.....so appreciate your time and art and talent!
I really like your videos. Is there any chance you could show how to paint a hyacinth.?
One of my favourite flowers
where do you buy your art supplies from?
Good day Lindsay...thanks again for a great watercolor vid. :)
Evelyn Goc you can do either, whatever you like, it won't be a mess, sometimes I sketch with pencil first, it depends on the painting:)
Thank you so much! =)
what brand are you using?
What exactly is botched about your other tulip paintings? Since I'm just a beginner (no formal lessons, just watching your tutorials), I thought those others were beautiful. Great tutorial!

I really learned a lot from you! From sunset to flowers! Thank you so much!! 😊🎨💚💚💚
Is there a video, or list of supplies to purchase to begin painting?
Martha Montour I have a printable list on my blog: thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com/2012/04/13/watercolor-basics-video/
Thanks for the tutorial! I'm gonna try it out. I like how positive and upbeat you sound.

Loved this easy flowing tulip. I have used the idea a lot. Thanks!
Can you do a tutorial on how to paint a daisy with watercolor please and thank you(:
Hi I am looking into getting water color pencils as well as paper what so recommend I have nice paint already thank you.
Hi I found derwent academy water color pencils for 25 they said great for kids though so I m not sure that's what I want. Thanks for your help :)
