Eh, what else to expect from Adult Swim.
Some of the childrens shows are more complex
Some of them seem to like it.
You can't just jump in to random episodes and get it. It takes time to understand and appreciate it.
Aborted Fajitas Not really, no...
Yes and no. U can enjoy some random episodes here and there but to really appreciate the show it does help to see it from the beginning. The character development is some of the best of any show.
Brit no, NOT really. the first episode i ever watched was a random one, out of order, and i was 100% aware of what i had just experienced, and knew immediately how smart and funny it was, and why.
I watched a couple episodes with friends before watching from the start, If you watch chronologically it is way better. There are some really unique moments mixed in with the comedy like the burial, evil Morty, purge planet, and the relationships of the people entangled with Rick and Morty. You can get some of the humor or references but there is a lot of substance in the show, most of it is pretty interesting and some is kind of depressing.

55 here, and totally love this show. not only does it touch on philosophical topics, there are plenty of paradoxical conundrums from scientific theories. so it has everything for everyone, from hidden Easter eggs, science, slap stick, parody, social commentary. it is genius.
I think the problem with these Elders, is they need to get a few episodes under their belt, so they can pick up on the theme, and get over the initial reaction that it is 1) animated in a goofy style, 2) Very fast 3) And what sounds like gibberish, is actually very smart dialog.
agriperma you're older than the main demographic, but you're not quite an elder :p I feel like a lot of people your age would watch and appreciate rick and morty if it was more well-known (as in, if it was introduced to them)

The fact that they compare it to the Simpsons and think cartoons are for kids... TBH this show doesn't appeal to their generation.
Kinda makes me sad to think there are people out there with such closed minds
No shit Sherlock
As far as I can tell mostly teens and young adults watch cartoons other than kids, hope that changes in the future as animation becomes more mainstream
Simpsons is not for kids tho.

Because 1) She only saw clips and 2) she was talking over some of the only footage she was shown.
They grew up in a different, much more limited time. Most of their lives they wouldn't have experienced anything outside of their own personal bubbles given that they didn't have access to the internet. "I turned myself into a pickle morty!"
Old man wearing light blue shirt: *Fascinating*
Fuckin died
I love how this show's not all old people are grumpy and can see new things and have some sort of understanding
Out of context, a lot of the jokes seem like immature potty humor. But it's really just the dressing on the show as a whole. You need to watch an episode or 2 to really understand why people love it so much. Pickle Rick is hilarious but out of context it's just a random guy who turns himself into a pickle for seemingly no reason. Kinda does the show more of a disservice to just show snippets like that without knowing a little more about the context. Rick and Morty is a lot more subtle with it's messages and themes than show's like Simpsons and South Park, but a lot more brunt with the "potty humor" at times because of Ricks cynical nihilistic nature.
New copypasta, everyone!
Very truth

Frank Mecham True. Your Statement about the full episodes is correct it is doubtful that any amount of clips from the show could represent the show in its entirety. However the butter clip is just pure humour about life and very hard to be offended by which could sway an opinion or two.

If Rick and Morty season 4 does not have an episode where Morty accidentally stumbles upon parallel universes where all of the Rick's are Neil DeGrasse Tyson's, all the Morty's are Rick's, and in Episodes following that one Morty's visits the Neil DeGrasse Tyson universes just to get under Rick's skin I will have lost all faith in humanity.

The funniest thing about the Meeseeks and Destroy episode is that Mr. Meeseeks can solve any problem, as long as it's simple, then he is destroyed. So Beth and Summer create their own Meeseeks to answer some deeply philosophical questions and help them with deep internal emotional work, and Jerry asks the seemingly simple "help me take 2 strokes off my golf game." When in the end the women's Meeseeks were destroyed (mission accomplished) rather quickly and Jerry's Meeseeks was suicidal and calling for back-up. 😂😂

Whenever I see an Elders React video I always wonder what stuff they were into as kids that freaked out their elders. Think of it this way: in 50 or so years, all the young people watching this will be elders, and there will be a new young generation laughing at their reactions.
Odds are those elders will be different given that they grew up with the internet and access to an incredible amount of cultures and viewpoints and ideas. Most people today have friends from different countries, across oceans, enjoy content from different cultures. It's a different way of being brought up rather than being stuck in your own little bubble.
By virtue of that they'll probably be much more open minded when they get to that age.
LSD probably

Really wish they would have showed them at least one of the more serious scenes from the show that actually make it more unique like Morty explaining that he is buried in the backyard to Summer or like the last of five minutes of the season 2 finale or Unity leaving Rick (stuff that can make you like and relate to the characters)
My favorite scene was the car scene when Morty kept crying.
Everything Nerdy they never show the more serious points
Just saying it would have been nice if they threw one in. Just to give them a more accurate and well-rounded depiction of the show, because although it is primarily a comedy it also has other larger elements that are real reason people liked it.

It's hard to convey how deep Rick and Morty's philosophical themes get with individual clips. I hope they saw full episodes.
Exactly what I was thinking. Clips can be funny but shows like Rick and Morty and BoJack Horseman get really deep and you have to truly watch the series to understand that.
They kinda didn't give them much plot. Rick's inner struggle with his addiction to chaos is a really captivating character arc
