Charlie is hands down one of the best musicians of our generation. He asked "Can you sing it here? (picks key)" and the girl choose a completely different key and he immediately starts playing the song in that key.
Perfect pitch does come in handy but any average musician can do it without perfect pitch from practice and training. For piano and guitar it’s extremely easy if you know your instrument because it’s all about knowing the root note in the scale/ key you’re playing. So if she sang minor instead then it’ll be an octave or so lower and major would be an octave or so higher. For the most part everyone seems to notices that it was shifted higher so everyone has the ability but it just takes time and dedication.

That happened to me in the 90s. Pam Tillis was singing, got off stage and stuck the mic in front of a few people on my row (front). I was praying for her to continue and get to me and she did. It was "Don't Tell Me What To Do". She let me sing a bit and then said "Give me back that mic!". Haha. She then drug me out and let me finish the song with her. After she got off, she had her guys come and get me and my son and they told me she wanted to meet me on her bus. When we got on it she told me she had never had anyone sound good before. It made my day. She signed pics for us and was super, super sweet. Thank you Pam. A very happy memory forever. :)
