My dog used to do this a lot. chasing her tail and spinning like a top. so what I did was I calmed my dog down. then I made her feel relaxed and laid her down on my lap. then I touched her tail and tried to scratch it. guess what. my dog felt comfortable after that. it just seem like her tail is just itchy. since dogs doesn't have hands like we humans do, they tend to sometimes use their mouth to scratch some hard to reach places. so now, every time my dog does that, I just scratch my dogs tail and the itch then goes away. then my dog will happily jump and lick my face to say thank you and then in return I just hug her. love my dog so much! 😊

My dog is only chasing her tail when we don't give her attention, but normally she does not do that (her breed is unknown, she comes from an rescue center)

Years ago after my older shepherd passed away my younger dog had become so depressed and irritable I was concerned he was actually sick. Took him to the vet and they recommended Prozac and Xanax. I was stunned that they didn’t even suggest anything else to help him through his grieving. But being a nurse I knew that if it was depression and not physically illness that I was not going to medicate him without trying some other things first. I decided to look for another dog and found this crazy silly little pitbull that is so happy all the time that you can’t help but be happy when she’s around. It took him all of a week to decide to play with her because she was so persistent. Lol. They’re best friends and family now and he’s a happy older guy himself these days and I know now that when he goes to heaven I’ll likely need to find my girl a friend to cheer her up. Maybe a cat. She loves cats. Lol

WhAt about papillion I have one and she chases her tail alot and then she starts to bite at it until she bleedes, and we thought she was over that stage and she trays to eat rocks, also, she organizes her rock collection in a line right in front of the back door and when I put them out side she goes and for some reason finds the same ones she had in the first line and she does it all over again, could this mean anything??

I also chased my tail in the public. But they didn't diagnosed OCD and gave me Prozac, they called it exhibitionism and put me in jail. That's not fair.

I once caught my cat chasing her tail very quikly. When she saw me looking at her she just stood there staring at me until i left
My dog is a Boston terrier and his tail is just a little thing (hardly noticeable) so this was sorta helpful?
