    This fly is the ultimate small stream dry fly for trout! I designed it specifically for visibility and its ability to float in the often turbulent waters of small streams. Give it a try on your local stream!

    Very nice tie. More small stream foam bugs would be great. Thanks

      I've been wanting to experiment with small stream foam bugs actually. I have 2 criteria - Easily seen and Float under any conditions! I used one this summer that was great! Now I have to play with it and figure out how I would make them.

    I like this fly. Looks like the hook position relative to the materials might aid in hookups.......a problem in a few of my august adirondack videos. Also seems to fit my preference for a quick tie. Think I'll sit at the vise and tie a few 😁

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  5 років тому

      Yeah... I struggled with that with a few flies. The other hooks I showed still in the package have been really great for a high percentage of hookups too... we use them on stimulator style flies and it seems like they always hook up.

    Nice video. They call this pattern a Neversink Caddis in the Smokies. Thanks for the inspiration to tie my own.

      Oh cool! I adapted it over the years for my small, turbulent streams for exactly that reason.... It almost never sinks and the bright elk hair really makes it visible! 🙂

      It is the only fly I use for small stream wild trout these days. I do tie them on the longer style hook now. TMC200R in size 14. i find I get a much better hookup ratio and the extra size helps fish see it in more turbulent water and also helps it float better.

    Ed Haynes I enjoyed watching this video . I have noted it down in in my tying notebook as a must have for brook trout fishing. Hope to the it up soon. Keep up with more videos many thanks.

    Awesome self innovative recipe! I sat down this afternoon and tied a bunch like this then got my own innovation going. I changed it s tad. I wrapped the shank of the hook after a good thread base of course with the same colored foam but a thinner width but still 2 mm ‘s thick. And I still used your sponge 🧽 wing. But, the more I’m thinking about it maybe it will ride too high. Well, we shall see. Haha. Anyway. I enjoyed this video so much especially , recently being on a native brook trout stream and using just the usual , original Elk hair Caddis. Very hard to still keep them floating despite , drying in them in the powder and blowing it off and reapplying the gink Great video as all of yours have been! I’ll be a watcher forever. I’ll let you know how this new innovation of mine works out. Tightlines.

      Nice Jim! I've been thinking about modifying it a little more or maybe tying another foam version. They key for me is floatability and visibility in turbulent waters! I think I've got to experiment with multiple layers of foam. I do tie it on the alternative hook I mention in this video now. It gives me a longer length but a small hook still and I think it works really well. I experimented with adding legs too as I've had that work really well on stimulators.

      @@WhiteDogTrailCompany not sure if I mentioned , on a few of my Caddis’ I actually wrapped the shank in the same colored foam and still finished it with your pattern. Haha. Who knows. Maybe a bust.

      @@WhiteDogTrailCompany looks like another quick and fairly easy fly to tie. I will be try to tie it tonight, along with a few more Sex Stones.
      How wide is the foam 3/16 - 1/4?

      I really like it on the small streams! Very buoyant and visible and it doesn't have to look like anything in particular.. you're not matching the hatch with it.

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  5 років тому

      LOL... I really don't but you certainly can. I designed this fly specifically because it is highly visible to the angler and the fish and it floats extremely well. I can use it all day as long as the fish don't tear it up too much. I really don't put on hardly anything else on small creeks anymore.

    I like a dropper setup, lots of success here in Idaho, could you do some of those???

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  3 роки тому

      You have good timing. I'm going to be tying some of these caddis for a trip but wanted some droppers since water is a bit high and fish may not be looking up as much yet.

  • @eugenefoster1363
    @eugenefoster1363 3 роки тому

    Do you ever trail anything behind your caddis. Like a small nymp..

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  3 роки тому

      Sometimes I'll do a dry, dropper on small streams. But once those fish are looking up I tend to go straight dry fly. Now I'm speaking really about those small stream wild trout like the streams you see in my other videos... I'll link one as an example here ua-cam.com/video/HfxpOVxzj7Q/v-deo.html On larger streams I don't do dry dropper much.. I am either euro nymphing with 2 nymphs or going for dry fly action. I really built this fly as the ultimate dry fly for those turbulent small streams like in the video I linked.

    Nice flY but really dude 8 to 10 minute fly took 17 minutes to tie I was falling asleep watching video

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  5 років тому +1

      LOL... Thanks for the comment. To me it is not just about tying the fly but why we do certain things with the fly to make it perform better or to understand what situations it work in. I am all about context and helping people learn and that takes longer than just tying a fly. That's my style and I hope it helps people. But on the other hand other people may doze off once in a while... LOL The hardest part I have with making videos is keeping them short enough...

    I’m sure your tired of this question but can you tell me what kind of bobbin that is?

    • @WhiteDogTrailCompany
      @WhiteDogTrailCompany  Рік тому

      The bobbin is nothing special really. I don't like it honestly because it is hard to feed your thread through it. At this point, now that I tie and sell flies, I have 7 or 8 bobbins loaded at all times so I don't have to take time to change threads. I like a shorter bobbin. This is my favorite one right now (the 3" one). www.jsflyfishing.com/products/glass-bobbin
