I have a very old rotary grater that has to be over 70 years old, it looks like the one you showed only its all metal with a red wood knob. It has interchangeable graters. It was my moms when I was growing up.
I have a 3 sided box grater with rubber feet that snaps together on one side and so does the top that I hold on to. When I'm done using it I unsnap it and it's so easy to clean and folds flat to store away! Bought it 20 years ago from Target! One of my best buys ever.
I just need to know which one will do the most damage to my knuckles as I rush to prep a meal in one third the recommended time because life is fickle and time evaporates faster than water drops on a searing hot pan...
Every time I go to the Italian restaurant, I say to myself, "OK, this is the day I finally just sit there and let the waitress grate the entire block of cheese into my bowl of soup", but I always chicken out and stop after five seconds or so...
I recently got a microplane professional rasp grater (the professional ones don't fold over the back side and are wider) after using a non branded one from amazon for years, the difference is insane, 1000x over get the microplane
Love the folks on ATK. I think they would make great friends! Oh and they would be the great friends who also make great food, and share their secrets!
ATK recommends the silicone spatulas from Di Oro and I was happy with the product, so I got the paddle style grater and zester set from Di Oro too. They're a bit pricier than other graters but perform better than others (even better than microplane in my opinion) and comes with a lifetime warranty
Thanks for this! My box grater isn't sharp any more (why did I not think that the blades would get dull over the eyars - duh!), and now I know the best one to buy. 🙂
I have that exact same box grater as in the video, the handle snapped off the second time i used it, i also notice it has that rubber bottom and rolled metal edges and cheese gets all inside the gaps and you will never be able to clean it out, the paddle grater is probably a better bet.
@@Justin-Trammell i put my water on hot as it can get and blast all the crevices and holes with the sprayer, it gets most of it, except under the metal edges where its rolled
I have the grater/microplane from Oxo, and sadly it's pretty bad. It's not sturdy so it bends easily, even though there is rubber at the sides it slips, and the top end can come off so it ends up in whatever it is you were trying to grate into. The teeth are also pretty small and with no extrusion, so things like ginger and hard parmesan are really hard to do well.
I got the Cuisinart box grater a couple of years ago and it just recently came apart at the seam. I may or may not get another one - I'm still on the fence on the replacement.
Don't forget the peeler! I use a vegetable peeler for a lot of my "grating" needs. Makes quick work of parmesan cheese. You get slices, and if you want smaller pieces you just grab them and crush them in your palm or in your fingers. They easily crumble into little pieces. When it comes to grating cheese, I usually reach for a peeler or a knife. It's easier to clean, and I'm often using them already. I tend to use a knife to quickly cut up cheese that I'm going to melt. But when you need to truly grate something, you've got to have a good grater. This video has good advice.
The RSVP International potato ricer says rated #1 by Cook's Illustrated (one of ATK's magazines) on its Amazon listing. I have one and it works well. Just throwing this out there--maybe you're looking for a newer review though.
I can confirm, the discs for the Cuisinart are fantastic. At least the shredder disks. I use it for grating mazzarella cheese, parm cheese (the real deal and a 3/4Lb can be done in seconds) and other cheeses, including cheddar.

Damn that's a must keep. Hopefully it can be maintained repaired and passed on to generations

Put 2 or 3 Oreo cookies in the rotatory grater and grate over vanilla ice cream to make your own cookies and cream.

I’m so grateful for you all! Sorry, that was cheesy.
Good information Lisa McManus. A very long long time ago, I was baptised by Father McManus. I love all TK shows ☘

Excellent video as always . I've Worked in kitchens for 40 years and your very well made videos keep me on my toes rock on girls

This video serves the grater good
Great timing, I’m getting ready to buy a new one.

Interesting recipe: lemon zest, cheddar and parmesan 😉

wonder what the lifetime of a grater is
As chef John once said:
"Make America grate again!"
I have every hole size of grater/rasp that Microplane makes. They're the best.
Love this show so informative makes cooking look easy.thank you
The Ikea blue container grater is the best I have ever used!
Thanks!

I can never get all the cheese out of my box grater...

Use an old toothbrush to scrub the crevices.

Where in the world did you get that hand held grater with the rubber feet and contoured to set on a bowl?

Can you guys do an equipment review for hand mixers?
@@sandrah7512 Thank you for the info! Greatly appreciate it.
Love gadget reviews!!!
You can't beat the ole Presto Salad Shooter!!!

Does the small-holed side of a box grater do just as good a job as a microplane? For some reason, this isn't answered anywhere on the internet!
Would love to hear your thoughts on mops and Swiffer style mops
@America's Test Kitchen: Any chance you'll test some potato ricers in the near future?

Are those 2 at the end doing it???
Would have been fun to see a shoutout to the grating discs that go in cuisinart food processors

Thumbs up for "greater grater"
ATK
Hi from California 🤗
Salutations 😋
But which one can do a really great grate?
Watching in Florida: See you later, grater!
I'm more grateful now
Microplane for garlic. Yay or nay?
You used the zester improperly. I learned from Chef Jean Pierre you are supposed to use the tool on the top and play it like a violin.
Hey Believe você é uma chata!! Misericórdia🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
@@sandrah7512 Yep, am considering one of the wider models of the same grater, and they are all around $15 or so.
Hello
WARNING ⚠️ the rubber pads on the microplane can pop off.
Recommend removing before use.
"greater grater" it hurts the soul LMAO
🤔
She didn't name the paddle grater.
So much plastic. I want to buy a grater, but everything has plastic.
Oooo, tell me so I don't have to watch...which $50-$75 grater do they consider the "best"?
this whole video was just an excuse to say "greater grater"
Washing box graters. No thanks.
