I don't do a ton of bass fishing so I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a couple baitcasters. I ended up buying a couple versions of this reel and they've treated me well. I wouldn't recommend them in saltwater unless you're very good with remembering to wash them down and service pretty often. I used it just messing around with black sea bass and some porgies for a couple days and paid for it. I'll admit I didn't wash the reel down with freshwater after the trip and luckily bearings are cheap and I learned my lesson!

Thanks for the additional information. Yes, like most reels, you need to stay on top of this one, particularly if it is subject to the saltwater
      spray

That looks like a great little reel. I would use it for estuary fishing.

Definitely! That's how it is being used here and it's a good one. Thanks - Dennis

It is. It isn't terribly over-engineered and it is solid and dependable. Thanks

Got the same reel but when I pull the drag the reel goes backwards only when drag is pretty tight any ideas?

That sounds like a broken A/R system or braid slip. Check both to see the cause

Great Video again Dennis. Are the internals the same between Left and Right Hand Baitcasting Reels and the spool tension knob.?? I see a lot of secondhand Lefties on eBay that may be a good donor for sone right hand Old Reels I have to save a couple bucks. Thank you my friend.

A lot of the internals are the same, but the A/R mechanism may be different and some have different gears. Best to compare the schematic and part numbers to make sure before you buy - Dennis

There are multiple causes to this. The first thing to check is the drag system - Dennis

No gear grease from the factory?

I'm sure it had grease when it was manufactured. Grease can evaporate and leave it looking like there was nothing there - Dennis
