I found that even on the Cats and Dressers it was always best to steer by adjusting the blade tilt when hogging a full blade. You can steer entirely by the blade with no need to grab a clutch. Hydrostatic finals are much more forgiving than the old mechanical clutches.
these had a bad reputation for weak final drives, they were once a upon a time the largest dozer in the world before the Komatsu D455A and later the Cat D10. the 41-B was rated 524 HP.
That back-up alarm is hilarious. These old Fiat dozers have finals that need frequent attention. You have to take up the wear in the bearings around once a year or so, according to a friend who has one. He says that you just have to get used to the fact that you're gonna have to break the tracks off and open up the finals once a year. Get that in your system and you're okay, I guess. There's a website by VanNatta logging and they have one of these. They talk about it some. Good old dozers.
Very nice angle on the 41 well done. These may be old but they will still pace with cat D9-10s and Komatsu 275s all day long. Keep up the good work, seeing this reminds me of the my old D9 days before i got moved to pit loader...
watched one sell at auction this past weekend in Missouri ....it sold for $9800 US... they are just so hard to transport and fuel consumption is 30g/hr still a shame to see it sell so cheap
I'll bet it's probly one of nicest dozer to run fiat is ahead of its time don't know y they where never all over usa market even though they where sold in usa in 80s 90s as Heston
It's called "Crow alarm", because the sound is taken from a regular american crow call. Of course, I can be wrong and I just could be making this whole thing up.

Ive said it before & I'll say it again, I just love those 41's. Awesome work PA!
A tribute to the great HD40 design of 35 years ago, they are still running today!
tdshaker
Great video. Nice to see operators trying to take care of the machines. No hot dogging.
Many thanks from Italy for this upload, this is one of my favourite machine, so rare to see it at work!
The best video of a 41 at work! First Gear made a lovely scale model of this beast.

Never knew Fiat made construction and mining equipment, thought they only made cars.
Great vid as always Justin.
Yep. The finals on these tractors are weak. The easiest way to blow a final is grab the steering clutch while hogging a full blade.
best work horse i ever run,,a d9 dozer beside a 41 look like a d6,,good memory..thank you..Lou
Pound for pound the best dozer I ever operated

Good work operator and dozer.
Thanks. The Fiat 41B/FD50 is a D10 class tractor.
Yes. Everything that gets removed to get to the coal goes back when mining is done. The clay will be used during reclamation
Was Fiat doing chair side steering clutch levers before Cat?
Thanks for all your hard work with these superb videos. How about a Fiat-Allis documentary?
OH MY, You've out done yourself this time PA. Awesome!!!
Allis Chalmers had their own engines, they had more torque range than a Cat and were more economical to operate
The smaller machines had A-C engines, the 41 had a V-12 Cummins.

This is a really top grade video of a bulldozer working. I like it.
Very nice. That's a really good looking oldie.
I've waited for you to make a video of that good ole 41B,that day is here. Thanks ,made my day.
Would love to see a timeslapse of such a site over a day or three, sped up say 30-60 fold, so you could actually see the hill being moved?
How did these compare with Caterpillars?
You might have told us before, but does the overburden go to reclaim the mined areas?
The reversing alarm is hilarious.... Sounds like it has a sore throat!
The mine is near a residential area and of course people complain about noise. That's a special type of alarm to reduce high pitch sound travel.
Is there any reason they leave the doors open? I presume a lack of air conditioning?
,wow what a machine really liked it
Timelapses are something I don't do
Yes. The cab would get very hot without them open in the summer.
Please do a documentary on one!
Those dozer drivers sure know what they are doing :)
Love them dozer local mine has one of those been there all its life still working
Classic monster dozer
I'll bet it's probly one of nicest dozer to run fiat is ahead of its time don't know y they where never all over usa market even though they where sold in usa in 80s 90s as Heston
Great video nice friend!!
I have an FL14D she's a beast. if anyone needs one I will be done with her in a couple of months.
It's on my to film list!
Thanks for another fine video. I really appreciate the quality. Any idea how the 41B would have compared to a Cat of the same vintage - D-9? D-10?
My uncle had a strip mine in 76 leased a D9and hd31. He said hd 31 would outwork the d9
Ye ole Allis Chalmers now serving veal & chicken parmigiana from sunny Italy🚜👍
