To be fair,Mother Brain is a very versatile model to base bosses off of. You can make it almost anything you want,given you have the technical skill to pull it off.
I do know that, as I've seen a level that had a boss with actual attacks based off of Mother Brain, but most of them are based on random hazards in the arena being thrown everywhere. That's usually what people mean by "a mother brain." Mother Brain is a great base, but easy to screw up.
