    Great review of an excellent product! Thank you! I love that they made the pages so much bigger than the originals; I saw all kinds of cool details I missed when the comics were smaller.

      Beedo Sookcool I agree. It is nice to go back and read through these comics. As kids, we didn’t care much about them. We probably read them once and then move on. Playing with the toys was always more exciting. Now as adults, we can appreciate the work that went into building this fantastic universe. The love and dedication of the people behind it. As a MOTU fan, I am honored in helping to keep its legacy alive through this simple video. In my opinion, every MOTU fan should own this book. It is an amazing trip down memory lane and a must in any collection. Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience!

    I was born in 1986 so my memories from the 80s are very fuzzy, however i do recall alot of Heman books and figures my older brother had and being fond of the characters. Now 33 years old im debating a few motu purchases for my inner man child.

      ryan turney I would recommend you to buy what you love and brings the best memories of your childhood. Not necessarily everything. I was born in 1978 so I have more memories of MOTU. It was a big part of my childhood. They were others shows I enjoyed but not as much as this one. I have learned that it is always to focus on those things we are more attached to. It is best for our peace of mind and our wallet. Thanks for watching!

    OMG...I remember these...I remembers something about the sword He-Man and Skelator had. They both had half of the sword. The toys could let you combine them into the more powerful sword. I don't remember what it was called.

    thanks for sharing this , a friend of mine had the original comic showcased in this book that was packaged with the original issue .Alfredo Alcala did a lot of work on Savage Sword Of Conan , inking over the pencils of John Buscema as well as his own art . The cartoon would have been awesome if it had been more like these first comics

    Why the publishers not making a giant book of he man Egmont magazines of 71 issues in one single book they were also the best stories

    • @jpsarri
      @jpsarri  3 роки тому

      Good question. I am guessing it has to do with multiply licenses. Dark Horse would not only have to pay the owner of MOTU, but also the publisher of Egmont magazine. Too many mouths to feed. However, I am sure that we will get to see a collected edition at some point. Sooner or later.

    Good review as always. Just one thing I wanted to let you know: that problem you have with omnibuses when the binding kinda swallows the image between two pages; I've always heard it referred to as "gutter" in the past. This book in particular obviously didn't really have one save for that first page. But I notice in your book reviews that you're often searching for a word for it. Just thought I'd let ya know. Thanks!

    • @jpsarri

      Thank you, friend. For some reason, I always forget certain words. I know the meaning of them, but I guess that in my excitement I get lost for words. Haha!
      It is actually called gutter loss and it very common in large cover books. Thankfully, this one didn't have that problem except on the first page.
      Once again, thank you for the correction and for the faithful support. 😄

    Is this a book good for someone who is new to he-man ? Does this contain the origin???

    • @jpsarri
      @jpsarri  5 років тому +1

      Well, it depends on your personal experience with the franchise and how well versed you are with Masters of the Universe. This book contains all the mini-comics that came with the original toys. These mini-comics told the origin story of each character prior to the TV series. Some elements were later changed to accommodate television audience. Things like outfits, characters, weapons, locations, etc. A newspaper strip was produced afterwards and remained in print for many years throughout the world (I reviewed the book collection as well). Changes to the plot line were also implemented there from the TV show, although not as much. Also throughout the years, there has been several limited comics series produced by major publishers like DC, Marvel, Egmont’s London, Image, etc. Right now, DC is producing limited series of the characters with a more mature tone. In fact, there is an omnibus which contains all the issues so far.

    JP Sarri, is this the book that I'd want to look at if I wanted to understand the bios on the back of the more recent Mattycollector Masters of the Universe line? Because that has a load of figures that I don't recognise from the cartoon series back in the 80s and I really want to see what they're on about.

    • @jpsarri
      @jpsarri  7 років тому +1

      Justin Parallax hard to tell. Matty Collector has created a lot of figures based on different sources. Some may be found here but not all. Also, there has been many comics of MOTU published over the years by different companies. DC, Marvel, UK Magazines, Image and Dark Horse have all pitched in. This book is definitely a good start. Plus the price is affordable for the amount of content. Good luck in your search!

    • @andresreydecastro
      @andresreydecastro 5 років тому +1

      Not really. The canon in the minicomics changes depending on what was the most visible incarnation of the franchise, so many issues directly contradict each other, sometimes they followed the current cartoon, sometimes they didn't. The Classics bios are a desperate and not very successful attempt to merge all continuities in one.

  • @Johnny6666

    Terrific review - thanks very much!
    But can I please ask a question? As a child, I owned only a few of the original mini-comics (packaged with the original He-Man and Skeletor) - but loved the Alcala artwork, which for me still defines 'Masters of the Universe'. I know Alcala only worked on the first 4 comics, so do you think I would still find this book interesting? I'd love to have larger copies of those first Alcala comics, but do you think the price is worth it? Thanks! :)

    • @jpsarri
      @jpsarri  8 років тому +1

      Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for leaving a comment. I apologize for my late reply.
      Yes, I believe that you will find this book extremely worth it. Alfredo Alcala not only illustrated the first 4 mini comics, he also illustrated other issues later on. Also Mark Texeira, a young Bruce Timm and Erroll McCarthy (who happens to be the guy who illustrated most of the art in the packages of the original toys) are great highlights of this legendary comic run. In my opinion, this collection is a must have for all Motu fans.
      Finally, the book is full of trivia, annotations, interviews and fun facts that makes it all worth it. Besides, it is larger in size than the original comics without being too large, and the quality of the paper and its binding will help you to preserve this book in good condition for years to come. I assure you; your money will be well invested. I highly recommend this book.
      Again, thanks for watching. :)

      DazBri it truly is. The mini-comics were totally different in tone to the cartoons, which was not a bad thing . For obvious reasons, the animated series had a more childish vibe but the comics felt more mature in tone with their lore. They were perfect teasers for children wanting to know more about the stories behind these characters. Doors to a fantastic and a mythological world. Awesome tool for the imagination!

And about enjoying the seeing it hase those footnotes. One of the thing I liked about the comicbooks of my time were the footnotes (footnotes and letters pages). Thank you! It is a blessing and a curse. I just simply love taking about comics. I get super geeky about it. 🤓
