Frankly, they can take every other supposed 'singing competition' right off the air and we wouldn't miss them. The Sing Off is where it's at. Singers who know their craft instead of tuneless idiots who are paraded in front of useless judges for comedic effect (a la American Idol). Judges who actually know their stuff and give technical advice and actually JUDGE and whittle the contestants down instead of giving useless advice and platitudes and then leaving it up to the fickle public to vote for whom they like instead of the best singer ( a la American Idol). Great acappella music and excellent singers.
My only qualm with this would be the finale... especially in this season, where the vote really could have gone either way, Ten or Home Free, it would have been awesome to see either team win, and honestly, I would have left that vote to the public, just because the groups were both so dynamic.
Matthew Geschke My understanding is that when they get to the bottom 2, they DO let the public vote. Until then, it is the judges who eliminate the contestants as how a competition SHOULD be.
I hate to tell you this, but the Sing Off was every bit as scripted and planned out as the other shows. The contestants who were on the Sing Off have all talked about this.
Was Geoff (the bass from VoicePlay) just unaware of how low he could go at that time? Or did he just not try? I feel like a big part of Home Free's victory was due to Tim's insane bass, but Geoff is also an amazing low bass and I haven't once seen him praised for it; in the context of the Sing Off.
I do agree with you there, but I also feel like Home Free was still a slightly better group than VoicePlay when it came to technicality. Both groups are awesome, and I love both deeply. But I don’t think he was aware that he could go that low, and some of the songs they sang really didn’t call for it.
I would like to see a rematch between these two groups, now that Geoff has had some more time to develop as a bassist. VoicePlay's recent arrangements show that they are (now) all too aware of the powerhouse that they have in Geoff, and make full use of his range and talents. Love Home Free and Tim as well, but I missed Geoff's voice here.
@@hanyodossta Folks, Geoff has been singing since middle school. Literally. He formed Voiceplay with his friends back in like 1997. By 2014 when they were on the Sing Off, they'd been singing together for almost 20 years. Yes, they knew how low he could go by then. It's not like they were fresh on the scene and hadn't had time to "develop."
Really late to the party, but Geoff has talked about this in interviews before (to the point that he's claimed repeatedly that he "isn't even a bass" because of it) that Tim and Avi are "freakish human beings who somehow get louder the lower they go and can happily sing off mic no problem"... Geoff 100% IS a true bass and uses a pretty significantly broader range of techniques than either Avi or Tim but HE gets significantly softer the lower he goes to the point that he literally never sings bass off mic... Which I strongly suspect is what they were worried about--you don't get to bring your own "mix guy" for Sing Off.
I think it wasn't so much that Geoff was unaware of his deep voice or was reluctant to sing that low as it was the show had already decided what each group's identity was going to be. Voiceplay seemed to be "the group with five guys and the really talented woman fronting them"...Honey wasn't really part of the group, but I suspect they added her because they already had two groups with five gentlemen (Home Free and Street Corner Renaissance). Speaking of Home Free (who I prefer slightly to Voiceplay), they were "the group with the really low bass and the heartthrob lead singer who was going to be a star". They were also "the group that can't dance", although four of the five actually can bust a move as well as, or even better, than most.
Tabitha Yi Pitch Perfect pales in comparison here actually. AI and any singing compettion would not stand a chance at all with this singers. Pitch Perfect looked like a rip-off that didn't even make it this good.
well looka here...the things you discover when you go back and watch them again...VoicePlay seemed to be already doing what Pentatonix did when they came on the show After them! hmmm

Tim foust is rediculous, out of all those people in the intro I can hear him the entire time ...!! so good.
SuNX2K3 Possibly the most talented guy of the whole season.

Home Free! Austin and Tim are incredible!
Yes! Love them much! Home Free is AWESOME!
Who else gets chills everytime The Filharmonic comes in during the opening number?
i've not come across a collection of voices like this ever before...awesome!
The Opening Was The Best!!!
OMGosh i could just imagine Carlton from Fresh prince singing with the Princeton group !!!!
good shows like that are now a rare commodity
Mark Phuong Huynh It's such a shame. When good quality shows come back on WITHOUT any superficiality attached, call me.
I really love this show my favorite acuaplla show
Pleasantly surprised to see this back...
The best group got the least screen time in the Intro. And who went on to have the best career of the ten groups. Funny that.
We all know that bass drop at the end of the intro song was Tim......
Olivia Thompson don't forget about Geoff
I like the judges here :)
Vocal Rush’s Bottom of the River remains my favorites Sing Off Performance ever.
OMG those acousticats are so freaking sleazy!
And I thought that before I knew they'd be singing blurred lines, aka date rape anthem.

Out of curiosity, why are there only the first four episodes? Any chance you have all 9? Or know where the other episodes can be found?

Where are episodes 5, 6 &7???
Is it bad that I keep on expecting to see Pentatonix?
The rapper from vocal rush is good
I can't believe they haven't said anything about the female bass from Elements. Crap she can sing low! It sounds like a guy!!
They do but in another episode. She's a contralto -you know, like Sade and Anita Baker.
And of course, Nina Simone!
Whaatttt
Where is PTX's cameo?
Last episode I believe?
They have a longer cameo in the last episode, but they're in the audience at about 49:30

I'm gonna say it. Vocal Rush was overrated. Nearly every group was more compelling than them.
country started as black. h
I don't like groups over 7 or 8, it's just too distracting and gets more like entertainment than talent
Ray B. Same. Because then it's like a wall. Like if they make a wonderful sound, I'll appreciate it. I'd just rather listen to smaller groups
Ray B. Also yes I know this is theee years old
I agree
