I was drafted in 1970. Still remember my number in the lottery 238. My wife and I owned a handful of albums, and this was one of them. Went from a long-haired hippie to a clean-cut serviceman. The Army offered free haircuts and they gave me a choice of about ten different doo's and then when I had picked one, they shaved my head. Rosie and I are still married and travel the country. Some of my friends from the time were not so lucky.
Lottery number 40. Army 1971-1978. I would never be the same.
My brother went over in '68 and didn't come back. I have been living my life for both of us.
I was up in Africa in the mid 70s, at night listening to CSNY on the army TR48.
Thanks for your sacrifice and service. May God be with you and give you peace.
Thank you for your service… That was a shitty war, not that any of them are good
I am 73 and I remember this album as if it was yesterday. So many great memories of that era, especially of my college days, come flooding into my mind that I am brought to tears. People, music is your lifeline to the past. Don't undervalue the importance of the songs playing in the background, even if you don't think of them now, eventually, they will reemerge bringing up with them all sorts of forgotten events, friends, and recollections. Each song is a storehouse of memories. Peace and Cheers, friends!
Thanks turned 65 this year. It's nice to be a kid. Cut my teeth on love for music this era. Been playing all my life. Priceless.

I’m 64 now, and CSN form part of my earliest musical memories, and they still resonate. Saw them live at the Albert Hall a few years ago - what a privilege. Much love to all fans.
At College I wrote some kind of a review on those days and CSNY popped up lucky and fine as their lyrics were like anthems of a whole generation or even more. The article appeared somehow in a local paper ,so some friends tipped me later, but I never got my hands on that issue. It was nice to know that something I wrote could be read by more people than just campus hipsters and twentieth century foxes. It Wouldn,t have been like preaching to the choir this time.haha!!
These were simple times when music was great and life was filled with love. Whatever happened to this simple life. Today mass shootings and people filled with hate killing each other. I wished society had more love and kindness in their Hearts.
When all the stars & planets in the galaxy aligned, they brought together Crosby Stills & Nash. The 3 voices that molded a Whole Generation Forever ❤
Goodbye David Crosby we will all miss you and your music will live on forever in our hearts. Their music got me through so much, anyone else influenced by this pure genius of a musician? I was so down after a heavy 5 year break up and just listened on repeat for an entire night to CSNY. it saved me. Please comment, he lives on through our stories.
Same here, but I'm a Southern Man; nothing great was done with the Y added to CSN. R.I.P. David
@@shadygraves You absolutely missed the point of Young's song. And he and Ronnie from Skynard had great respect for each other. Ronnie was a fan with a brain. You're a effing ignorant redneck.
@@shadygraves Yeah, sure, nothing great was done with Y. Deja Vu (a masterwork and classic) is a horrible mess...right?
Yes, Doug… unfortunately, “you can never go back home” but this is close as you can to what we lived and listened to.
He was great 😌 we will all miss him
My dad passed away 2 yrs ago.. he was a Vietnam vet... this was his fav album.. we would have "GI parties".. which meant we had to clean and dust the whole house... .. this is the album we listened to... this is how I learned to sing harmony.. it is such a profound memory in my life..
oh the harmony. My kids love good music but they dont harmonize as easily as we do. Add Neil in there for 4 part harmony! Safe travels sister.
I kiss you Christina....I love your mind and your heart!
My father died 4 years ago...he was Serbian veteran in war which took place in Ex-Yugoslavian republics. And he was big fan of CSN! So many times, while we were driving and a song by CSN came on, he turned the radio all the way up! That's how I loved them too. I miss my dad a lot...
@Nebojša Stošić I'm so sorry for your loss.. our dad's new good music and taught us well!!! Blessings to you my friend.. big hugs sent to you!
Wow! I feel like I am reading this about me. My stepdad passed a few years ago. He also was a Vietnam Vet. He would play this album so often. He would sing and reach all these different harmonies throughout the songs. I absolutely loved it!!! He was so happy singing. I find that I imitate him singing the same way. This brings tears to my eyes. Such wonderful memories I will never forget.
Just got word that David Crosby has just passed. This was the first album that I ever bought. RIP, David. You will be missed but your music will live on forever. God be with you and your family.
Il y a 50 ans que j'écoute ce disque et j'ai toujours des frissons, né en 1948 c'est ma jeunesse heureuse qui reviens ,c'est de la dentelle ces voix merci pour ce bonheur les gars
Crosby gone! Oh crap. Although I never met him, I always thought he was my brother. He was the outlaw, the heart, the resonance of an age. Next to the loss of John Lennon, this is the hardest to take. He spoke for us. He gave up so much to keep the flame alive. Even after all his trumatic past, he was still singing, with new talent. Humbled by what has come to him, repentant for the mistakes and so full of life, joy, love. The things we are so sore in need of today. A heart rending moment. Bon Voyage David Crosby...
Your post made me cry.. he was a brother to you.. he was an uncle to me... he was always there in my life.. crazy.. hugzzz to you.. loss is such a hard thing even of you don't know the person
Yes, David has left this life but what is there afterwards? Memories of others
I first heard this group when in Nam...their music got me through some tough times for sure...David Crosby shall be missed...RIP good soul!

At 76 years old it still moves me as it did in 1969 !
Even more so in some ways❤️
Seventy last September 2022. I still remember coming back to school from summer vacation in fall of '69 and the kids talking about that huge/giant rock concert they had in Bethel, N.Y.! Who knew I'd be watching the movie "Woodstock" as a college kid about 3 years later.

Vale - David Crosby
One of the best & greatest Singer/Musicians has passed away aged 81.
Along with his mates Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young, Crosby created some of the most iconic late 60's & early 70's music.
I know they started in the mid-60's, though to me they epitomise WOODSTOCK.
The Vocal harmonies rival anyone else in the music world.
Their Guitar work and their sublime Bass lines were ground-breaking and ahead of their time.
Even as a very young child I knew their music was very special.
RIP Mate, thanks for all the musical joy you brought us.
The soundtrack of a whole generation. A breathe of fresh air in troubled times.

I'm 58 y/o missed the 60's but this album took me through all the good parts of my youth.
Those were troubled times, too, but…. *yes.*
Keep following the underworld junky propagators and smoking the shit and you can go bah bah bah like a liitle lost lamb who missed out on reality (too many reality effecting illegal drugs). But where is the reality in your incorrect statement 'a whole generation'? What happened to the rest of the generation? (The Straights, Squares, Non junkies, The Legals etc etc. Did they not exist? Not every one by a massive margin was a communist sympathizer want a communist take over in South Vietnam. Bear in mind that if the Communist sympathizing anti war movement had won there wouldn't have had freedoms in Califonia. You'd have been on forced labour quoter with out any private ownership or else you go to the forced labour camps or gallows. All the freedoms they sang of were the established existing rights.
So no it was not the sound track of a whole generation. A USA off their head's stoner generation maybe. You maybe need a month off your reality disintergrating drugs to harmonize with reality some times just to identify where your peace and freedoms in the sixties came from. Those which your anti war protesters were jepodizeing.
I turned 70 this year
Sound track of my youth. Rest in Peace David
Takes me back to when I drove a Kombi, had long hair and lived a carefree life. Both the Kombi and hair have gone Thankfully the music is here.
I bought this album in HS. I was thinking about David Crosby and the song Wooden Ships popped into my head. Rest in Peace David Crosby you brought many people joy and peace with your beautiful music! ❤️
RIP David. You were an amazing talent that will be missed. Maybe one of the best harmony singers in rock. So glad I was able to see you perform a few times.
i was born in 69 and i was introduced to CSN while in HS and really enjoyed listening to this album from 83-88....sound track to my HS experience. along with Young, Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and yes even the Police, these guys were my sound track. thank you David Crosby. may you RIP. this is just a wonderful gift you gave us. Thank you.

Born in 67, I too also listened to alot of CSNY during my high school days....came back to listen this album after hearing of DC passing.....It's as amazing and wonderful as it was the 1st time I heard it!!!!
Remembering David Crosby (d. 2023). American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Rock legend. No more problems, brother.
All I remember was sittin' around with my buds, a few beerskis, some good weed and zoning out listening to this (and a few other similar albums) until we dozed off only to wake up an hour or two later with a horrendous case of munchies. Helplessly hoping was my fave.... if there was one.
I was a hard hitting Rock Drummer for years and up to this point, I stayed away from " wooden Music", that is till I heard CSNY.....never looked at music the same since...Loved them then and still love their sound, their harmonies are a class act....RIP David Crosby, thank you for the great contribution to music.

RIP David Crosby. Probably the toughest loss of a musician for me to cope with since Walter Becker's passing. Always loved CSN(Y), especially this album. What marvelous vocal harmonies! This Album and Seals and Crofts, wonderful memories. I also protested Vietnam. It was an entirely different world then. It was all about freedom, having a voice and using it.
i started glakes boot camp in dec. 69 right out of h.s., went to hospital corps school there, too and assigned to the hospital there. met some corpsmen who'd used up their college deferments so were 4-5 years older. they introduced me to music like this, cat stevens, beatles i'd missed in h.s., john mayall, lots of great stuff, plus drugs, politics, antiwar news. a time never to forget. this, and csny's "deja vu" were the soundtrack.
It was a great journey, ol' buddy. RIP David Crosby.

oh now don't get me wrong...I love Steely Dan and the Eagles and the Outlaws...but NOBODY could harmonize like CSN...they all had such phenomenal, ranging vocal talent. They could make the simplest song sound so full and rich and mellow, or deeply powerful. RIP DAVID CROSBY
One of the albums that I can remember the exact day and location and who I was with the first time I heard this masterpiece that absolutely blew my mind. Listening to it 53 years later and at almost 75 yrs. old it brings those great memories of my youth flooding back.
The best music came out of the 60's and 70's. It stands the test of time. Younger generations should take a break from whatever it is they're listening to these days and tune into CSN&Y. What have you got to lose?
When I hear my fourteen year old hum these. I am 67, love CSN&Y when cooking (ahem, 14 yr old)
Man I'm 19 over here listening to this because I cant carry my record player outside to smoke with me 😂😂
My 4yo son loves this album. His father has the CD in our car and my son refuses to listen anything else😀 For him it is a synonym for music. Music = CS&N :)
There is no comparison with the music of that era to today's what passes for music.
By that logic, Hindustani classical music 4000 BC would be the best music and an incidental pop record will likely be lost to the depths.
Long, long Live David Crosby through his music...✌️🌎🌏🌍✌️
David Crosby, voice of our generation... RIP
So many of his generation are passing, but the news of David Crosby passing hit me hardest of all this morning. Such wonderful memories of this album.
